If you need a desktop replacement with a decent 99% sRGB screen this might be a cheap option for you. It is currently $1079 on the standard Lenovo site, so $755.10 on the education site would be considered a decent discount.

The main compromise would be the low capacity battery and non backlit keyboard, but has a 300nits 72% NTSC(99% sRGB) IPS screen which a lot of laptops don't have in this price range.

  Curse you Education Store. Non-students can get almost the same thing for almost the same price from Amazon US but the screen is even worse - 1600 x 900.

  the battery is really small at 38wh, only good if you are using it as a desktop replacement.

  Very odd option tbh. A daily go-to-work laptop is often small with okish processor. A desktop replacement should be big and strong. This one is sort of in between.

    No. As I mentioned in the OP. The trade of for having a good quality screen is lower capacity battery and non backlit keyboard.

  Seems like a very deal for the money - nothing seems to come near it in terms of specs.

  Is it because of the large size and small battery - something that wont bother people who will use it predominantly as a desktop replacement.
  or is it because its only available to people with .edu email?

    As far as I am aware Australian favour laptops up to 15". The only other issues I see with this laptop is 38wh battery and non back lit keyboard.
