  • How good is the sound really?

    • +2

It's reasonable. Better than a standard Echo. I much prefer the sound of my Sonos Ones and Sonos Beam, though.

      • Better than a standard Echo.

        Looks at price

        You'd hope so

      • Agree - have both and Sonos One is much better

    • +1

You have to be realistic. No smart speaker is going to be better than half-decent regular speakers, but for something that you, say, stick on your bedroom dresser, it's not too bad. Pairing it with the echo sub improves it dramatically and sounds pretty good for what it is.

    • This is > echo dot > mobile phone speaker. But depends on what you use them for. I find sometimes my JBL Go is good enough to watch nighttime TV. Still wouldn't mind a good recommendation for a speaker with good voice output. (Thinking of Yamaha soundbar)

  • Curious how this compares to the Google MAX

    • +1

2 Google Max’s paired in stereo mode, with a Google Nest speaker for mid-range is my setup. I even have the old Google Home in the mix for fun. Maybe it’s overkill, but it’s incredible sound and very convenient to use, giving me music in the living room, kitchen and study just by saying a few words. The Google Maxes at opposite ends of the living room give true stereo separation, and a full, immersive sound.

2 echos and the sub are amazing

  • When will Amazon start their defacto ISP here in Australia?

    • Probably a few years away like all the other features we miss in Australia, we haven't even got Alexa Guard which was released to the US in ~2019.

      • I use alexa guard with my echo dots, show 8 and Ring Doorbell and it is extremely glitchy

        • On an Australian account, or do you have a USA account? It doesn't work on my AU account, nor does printer control by voice, location based reminders and a stack of other useful features the USA get.

  • Question for those with this in their home with other Alexa products: if you use the line in for audio, is it then able to stream to your other devices? I wondering how I can get house-wide sound from my vinyl player and was thinking that this might be an option.

  • Has the deal expired? Its $279 now for me.
