If you download the free "purchase bonus" on the eShop (search for "Hyrule Warriors" and it should be the second result), it looks like you'll get the Expansion Pass too, saving yourself a tidy £17.99 — as confirmed by a few of our staff members. The exploit even works if you don't own the game, so you can bank it for future use, if you want.

Yeah, sorry all. Looks like extremely short lived fun for early risers. Expansion pass still shows as purchased for me, but can no longer see the purchase bonus item in eShop.
Doesn't work if you don't own the game, can still see the bonus purchase.
Doesnt work on a game card.
Managed to get this done yesterday morning, didn’t realise it gave me a free copy of the DLC too
