These are usually around $50 during the Days Of Play sale. 26th May - 7th June 2021. Although last years sale was fairly disappointing.
Where do I look for the controllers for sale? Would I be looking on retailers websites or Sony's websites?

I would imagine it is from people buying from third party sellers to save a few dollars on Amazon as opposed to sold by and shipped by Amazon.
Doesn't Black Friday/ Cyber Monday usually have cheap DS4 controllers at $49.95?
Never get the white one, I don't know if there was a faulty batch but the right stick would constantly drift. Got it replaced and didn't touch it for a year and it was the exact same issue with the new one, now I'm stuck with it. Seems that a lot of Amazon reviews have the same issues with the white one. F'n annoying that Sony won't acknowledge it and replace.

Out of curiosity has anyone had any issues with drift?
I got one 6 months ago and after about 20 hours of use it's gotten bad drift in one stick and a little drift in the other.
Annoyingly I also threw the box away after I'd used it for about 10 hours since I thought it would be fine.
Yep. I bought a nice green controller two years ago and it had drift in the right stick. Sent it back and got a crystal controller (see through) and it has drift in both sticks almost straight away… now I have only a white controller that works fine for now. Drift is a problem across platforms right now and only Nintendo is getting heat for it.
Wish i kept my green controller.
Your warranty is still valid without a box. I would still take it back
I bought it from Amazon, do you know if it's better to try them or Sony for drift?
I would try Amazon first. They're pretty good with customer support but sony isnt bad either
