[NSW] LG Gram 14 (i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) $1260 Delivered @ LG

800

Seen cheaper prices for the same specs with Asus and Acer but the LG gram is a lot lighter at 1kg and comes with a significantly larger battery at 72Wh.
The extra 200 bucks may be worth it for those that need the bigger battery or lighter weight.
Usually retails for $1798 at JB

  • OOS apparently

    • Still showing as in stock for me (NSW)

      • VIC is OOS, but the 16 inch is available tho

  • +7

Man that 17 inch model being only 1350 grams still blows me away.

Nice. And it has 16Gb but its $1819. Nice to see these lappies sold in Oz. Always had to be imported from Korea previously.

      • I had to get an older model from the states. Well worth the money with the better exchange rates back then, but still love the laptop to bits.

Amazingly light and good number of ports

  • If the 17" was on sale id get it in a heartbeat

  • These have a IPS panel… I'm holding off till OLED laptops start popping up.

    • How's the power consumption with OLED?

    • +5

      OLED

Yeah, Sony tried that. Everyone started complaining about burn-in issues because computers are full of bright and static elements which just kill OLED pixels.

      • +1

I've used OLED with a PC for a few years and haven't had any issues.

Admittedly a small sample size though.

      • +1

OLED is the best screen out. Burn in is a thing of the past with all the new pixel shift anti burn measures.

        • +2

The wait is over. There's an updated XPS 13 OLED available for purchase now.

Samsung also recently released a competitor to the LG Gram line, the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 with OLED displays. They're not available locally but can be ordered through Amazon.

        • +1

Not true at all, burn in is cumulative even if you shift the pixels

          • -2

@cille745: IPS panel is inferior to OLED panels. Brightness, blacks, size, resolution, viewing angles, refresh rate. Ect. Look at tv's, mobiles, watches ect. It tool Apple years to switch to OLED in mobile devices. Now they see OLED is the best panel available.

          • -3

@cille745: You've posted in multiple deals that burn in is cumulative. That's like me saying, Hippos kill the most people on earth every year. IPS is much more likely to fail. Dead pixels are a very common issue on IPS panels.

            • @Wizard: I've never said that OLED isn't the best available at the moment, because for a lot of applications it is, I'm just saying not to spread misinformation that burn in is a thing of the past. While a lot of users won't run into it for the life of the TV, those who use it as a PC screen most likely will in a few years time. The pixel shift technology is only there to prevent minor image retention, not burn in.

              • @cille745: I don't know a single person who has had burn in.

  • 8gb Ram, possible to expand that?

    • +1

      Soldered

I think the SSD can be upgraded and an extra one can be added.

      • 8gb fixed ram, disappointed.

        • Not sure about this one. But when I got 1st gen LG (2015 model) and it had a single RAM slot, so pulled the original 4gb ram and put 8gb at that time). It will be quite disappointing if they went with soldering now.

      • Is there extra slot?

        • Not for Ram I think. For the LG gram 16/17 they have an extra nvme slot. Not sure about the 14

    • +6

8gb Ram, possible to expand that?

      8 gigabytes random access memory

  • If you want just the specs on a slightly heavier package, Dell has equivalent laptops for $800-$1000

1700 for LG Gram 17 incher with best specs, no thank you

  • $50 Cashback from Intel as well.

    • LG isn't on the list of eligible retailers unfortunately

Price match at JB and then claim cashback?

Ah didn't think of that. Plus you can take advantage of 5% gift cards. Good catch

        • +1

Jb with their so called "price match", will price match if they feel like it

          • +1

@alwayspoor: Got JB Broadway to price match the 16" with 16GB RAM, 512GB storage and purchased with extended warranty till 2024 for $2,082.
$50 CB brings down to $2,032. Happy with that.
            Thanks O.P.

  • There is an LTT video on this and it shows that the build quality on the 14 inch gram to not be so good. The deck flex is really bad

    • I think I watched that video and iirc correctly he said that it had a bit of flex to it but overall he considered it to be pretty solid.

      • That's because he was sponsored so he probably can't talk too much shit about it

    • How come it passed military grade testing then?

      • -1

        Kazakhstani Army?

      • +5

I mean the military grade testing to me is just a marketing gimmick, especially since their shock test involved "Functional Shock and Transit Drop whilst in packaging".

Lots of upvote for a $1200 Windows laptop with 8gb ram

    • Because it's very light and has a great battery.

Not perfect but good for many users.

      • -1

Fair enough, personally would never get this over a macbook m1

  • -1

At this price and this type of light laptop, wouldn’t a Macbook Air M1 make more sense?

    • +3

It's great but shifting everything to Mac OS apps is a pain for some.

  • That's a huge battery for such a thin laptop WOW!!

  • shame you cannot put it on googoopay or tooshpay wih no interest and no fees

  • Anyone know how bright the screen is? I see reference to 50% brightness for the battery measurement or 150 nits. So full brightness is 300?

    • I think it's 500 nits.

  • Sold out. Good luck to those who got one. Seems like great value

    • Cheers, updated

  • When did LG start selling in Australia? I remember trying to get one 12 months back when I updated and would have had to import one from the US. Definitely on the shortlist for next years update!

    • +1

I honestly was pretty surprised to see that LG was selling in Australia too. My best guess would be they started selling ever since the Intel evo range launched and they were one of the few laptops eligible for the criteria so they decided to start selling here?

  • +1

possibly pricing error, but i got the 16 inch version Osbidian Black 8GB for $1679, price matched it at JB this morning. hell of a deal.

    • How did you do a price match after the LG website was back to normal prices?

      • it was still working yesterday at around 2pm Melbourne time and i picked up the last one. i could see they have removed the product in question from sale on the LG website.

  • After a days worth of research I have concluded, that yes, I would like to buy the LG Gram 14 for $1260. Looks awesome. The 256Gb is the only borderline feature for me.

Can't pull the trigger on every deal without due diligence!

    Oh well next time.

You could still get the 16 inch version for 1599 with $100 PPSS1 coupon at checkout.

it's actually not that big a machine, compared it with my 2015 Macbook Pro 13.3' and it's barely bigger, like 20-25% bigger perhaps.

      • Yeah it's an appealing laptop too. (Looks like it'll come to $1529 with PLUSES10). Not sure I'd buy from there but cheers for the option.
