    This or B&W Nautilus?

    • 🤣

    • I have both, these are close in sound quality and don't take up as much space in the theatre room.

  • With edifier 3000pro, I've heard it doesn't remember volume. so you turn it off and on again, it goes to some default on volume.
That sounds pretty bad, Is it annoying in practice, and how loud is the default volume?
    thankyou

    • I like quiet speakers. The default volume is just a little past what I would set it to. Changing the gain on the back can change this too.

    • +1

Interesting how my S2000MKIII's remember volume when turning on and off but the S3000Pro's don't, that's kind of stupid.

  • The RealMe is $408 for me. What am I missing?

    • +1

My bad. I wasnt signed in. Seeing the right price now. I think this might drop further but this a gift for the Mrs. and so I will proceed :) Thanks OP!

  • What’s the difference between 1700BT & 1700BT 2.0?

I know the newer one is 1700BTS, but haven’t heard of the 2.0z

    Any guidance?

  • Wonder how these compare to the Voll P44. Purchased a pair with their amp the other day. Voll is a fair bit more expensive given you need an amp and less features.

Got the Edifier R1700BTS on the last deal to replace my old Altec Lansing MX5021 2.1 speakers. These perform nicely and it's enjoyable to listen to them, they take up a bit of desk space so keep that in mind.

I got the S350DB from a deal about a month ago. Good gracious they are amazing for use as a TV speaker - way better than a soundbar.

Highly recommend them if they fit your area. They get loud and the sub just works with the speakers, it doesn't sound like a separate sub it sounds integrated if that makes sense. The only issue is the dumb remote shape lol. The round remote just feels like it's trying too hard to be unique. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Happy you were able to get a set of those speakers without the QA problems, a quote from a comment i made on a older post :

"S350DB on the other hand has issues with tweeter noises, subwoofer cone rattle, one of the speakers just stops working randomly, these are reported problems, and a few sites i looked into go in depth with these issues, biggest one is the Tweeter noise when nothing is playing"

Hence why i highly recommend against buying them, the tweeter noises, subwoofer cone rattle, speakers stop working are random problems that you may or may not experience, the one problem thats been looked into the most is the "tweeter noise when nothing is playing"

      Here's a post explaining the problem, http://englishdrummer.blogspot.com/2020/05/edifier-s350db-hi…

(If link is taken down, look up Edifier S350DB High Pitch Noise Defect Englishdrummer blogspot)

Goes in depth with the issue.

Extra Explanation for people who don't like to read blogspots :

      —- Credit to Pedro Fernández

Defective unit SN: 441405044429 (original board off a S350DB unit)
New unit SN: 441405042325 (replacement board off a S350DB unit)

      According to Pedro,

"I try to visually inspect the PCBs of both units but couldn't notice any differences. The PCB revision was the exact same one, so no layout changes. The codes written in the AOZ1210 package were also the same ones."

"The replacement speakers luckily worked fine. There was no noise at all."

"As for the serial numbers, this new unit was manufactured actually before the defective one."

The problem with what he says in case you haven't noticed yet, is how the replacement PCB did NOT have this issue, despite no obvious changes from the previous PCB, the REPLACEMENT pcb was manufactured before the one he had, so if you had the argument that Edifier had fixed these problems with a newer revision of PCB for the S350DB, you'd be wrong,

What this blogpost tells me is that pretty much any PCB off the S350DB CAN have this issue, it's random, dosen't matter when it was manufactured because this issue STILL hasn't been fixed by edifier,

Comments on the blogspot of other users experiencing this problem,

Kela5 says : 466003064362 same issue retruning it

Buxton says : Had these speakers for few days. Didn't notice anything wrong for the first couple of days but then now this high pitched whine started to appear. I'm trying to figure out what changed in the past day or so.

Unknown says : I have 'almost' the same exact issue, the only difference being that my pitch starts around 6Khz, and then goes upwards to peak at around 10Khz. Very ear-piercing if you let them idle, and will definitely give me a headache.

and a few more comments you can read on the blogposts,

This is a problem that edifier COULD fix, but they won't, the latest comment is from Feb 2021, indicating this issue has NOT been fixed up to now,

I want as many people to be aware of this as possible when considering to purchase the S350DB, if you have seen and read what i've said here, please let people know in future posts of ozbargain to make them aware of this problem,

Again, this is one issue posted via a blogpost, plenty of users over at amazon report wildly different issues that you MAY or MAY not get when purchasing the S350DB,

Edifier should do better here, they just should, users should not have to deal with this, thanks for reading!

Haha thanks for reminding my everytime the S350DB deal is posted. I've been tempting to buy this but after reading your comment several times now and doing my own research online, it's put me off =)

        • +1

Glad you've read up and done some research, yeah i get wanting to buy it, after all the ozbargain code is "buy now, think later", i think in this case though, "think alot first, buy if insane" for this product.

  • 350DB good as desktop PC speakers/gaming?

Any active audiophile level speakers in the sub $1000 price range to consider?

    • +1

      Audiophile level? hahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahaha

350DB is not good, not because it's bad, but because it's bad, quality control problems, i've done extensive research on this

This is what I would HIGHLY recommend for a high-quality audio experience via tv shows, movies, games, e.t.c

S3000PRO if you want to go super high end, S2000MKIII (i have them) if you want very very high end crisp clear audio with a nice remote, beautiful grills, beautiful audio & audio presets, and i've course 192khz high-res audio,

If both of those are too expensive, i'd recommend at minimum to get the S1000MKII when it's on sale, very good speaker just without the audio presets and the high-res of the S2000's

DO NOT GET THE S350DB, believe me, unless your willing to roll the dice on quality control, i wouldn't do it, you'd be lucky if you'd get a pair without issues,

      — If you really want to get up to the sub 1000 range, hit up the Airpulse A200 / A300, super expensive and edifier's highest end speakers with the best possible sound edifier has to offer.

      • Cheers thanks for your insight!

        • Expanding on what i said —-

Be sure to consider everything before buying, the S2000 / S3000 are HUGE speakers, your going to need stands for them, i use mine for my desk setup (with my ultrawide monitor) using some cheapo $70 stands off ebay, works great, however the S2000 / S3000 are flat, a.k.a no slant like the R1700BTS, again they are designed for a tv / home theatre system, but you can set them up for a desk setup,

If your just gonna hit up gaming and need some speakers, honestly i'd just get the R1700BTS for that, if you want to expand the use of the speakers and hit up movies, tv shows, i'd hit up the S2000 / S3000, if you want the highest end and a home theatre setup or hell want to be insane and do a desktop insanity setup, A200 / A300 Airpulse

I wish i could recommend the S350DB as despite the bad quality control they are smaller size like R1700BTS, come with a dedicated sub and look great, they are perfect for a dynamic gaming / movie desktop speaker setup with added bass on top, unfortunately edifier did a terrible job with QA,

TLDR ; Consider EVERYTHING before buying, speaker stands and all, you'll thank me, do your research man, the end result will be so much better for you.

—— Above this comment is an explanation on S350DB's QA problems, if you want to take a read, it'll give you some insight as to edifier's QA problems, while S350DB is the one speaker with serious qa problems, other edifier speakers CAN have them, i find the higher end ones however are prone to have less problems as they use higher end components and i'm assuming edifier puts them through more thorough quality control

          • @Cas3232: Thanks again for your detailed response.

We don't really have enough room for speaker stands in the PC room in the apartment.
Do the 2.0 S3000PRO have enough bass without a subwoofer? Just looking for simple actives to plug into desktop sound port

            • @G Wok: S2000MKIII & S3000PRO do have tight good bass, but not subwoofer level, if you REALLY care about bass, your out of luck there, but they do have great bass.

              • @Cas3232: Is there an equivalent system to the 350DB that doesn't suffer from high pitched QC issues? It seems to tick every box other than being a quality product lol

                • @G Wok: Not really, i mean S2000MKIII's ticks every box and more, except it's bigger and dosen't have a sub, but better quality audio and more tight bass and vastly superior QA, but if you really care about smaller speakers and a subwoofer, really the S350DB is the only option, a possibly disastrous choice, but if you get lucky and don't have problems, well you win!

                  • @Cas3232: Space is a big issue for us unfortunately although the sound quality of the S2000MKIII is definitely what I'm after, we can't fit it on our dingy IKEA desk with 2 monitors.

So I think maybe the best compromise is the R1700BTS and a seperate Voll S8 sub which is on sale for $179, total would be about the same as the 350DB. Hopefully the sub can integrate easily with the edifiers via a single cable. I wonder if that affects the Bluetooth link with the sub. What do you think?

    • +1

S350DB desktop user here. Couldn't be happier. No issues whatsoever (except stupid shaped remote).

I have a silent PC so I'd definitely notice any hissing coming out of the speakers/sub.

      Upgraded from Logitech Z337s.

  • I was looking for karaoke speakers, I bought portable sound flare but that has measure delay and are useless. Would you recommend these or some other speakers I want something small and cheap.

  • Is the Edifier R1700BT 2.0 the same as the Edifier R1700BTs? Can't find any information online about R1700BT 2.0

  • do the s3000 pro have a subwoofer out? I cant tell from the website.

    • No don't think so.

  • Thanks OP. Just brought the S3000Pro to replace my 15+ year old Logitech Z5500D. Though I've hardly used them (thanks to Schiit HEL, Modi 3+ and Magni Heresy and the plethora of headphones) looking forward to getting back into the speaker realms.

    Can't wait for their arrival

    • Let us know how they sound.

    • you will be impressed!

  • Is the s3000Pro worth the $200 more it costs than the S2000MKIII? And is the S2000MKIII worth the $200 more it costs than the R2000DB? Looking to get one of these three, leaning towards the s2000MKIII for $400.

    • +1

From what all accounts state, yes.

They deliver better lows, mids and high. They sound fuller due to the size and construction.

From the review Zeo's has done, apparently it's all the rave.

I'm keen to see what they can deliver.

  • Was tempted to get the Edifier S350DB, but did a quick search that they selling for $282.39 back in March… I guess I would just wait if any deal like that come again.

  • +1

very good information. just grabbed a S3000Pro

  • Has anyone managed a user friendly/cost effective option to add a sub woofer into these Edifier active speaker set ups?

Have been reading about RCA Y splitters but ends up tricky with sending sub signal to mains, plus volume control issues. It's the only thing stopping me from getting a S2k/S3k I think

  • Just remember guys, Cashback also has 3% cashback on Wireless1 site. I missed out on it, which would of equated to around $17 bucks back :(

  • Code FRENZY21 NOT working :(

  • Has anyone had their item shipped out yet??

  • I bought an edifier r1700bt on a previous deal. Unfortunately the main speaker (with the controls on them) has stopped working properly. When I isolate sound to come through only that speaker, its just a very faint sound.

Anyone had similar issues? Is there a fix or should I be seeking to return them?
