This will go great with my $199 netbook

Which will increase the value of your netbook right away!

You're silly, I just need more gigabytes to store my linux ISOs.

  • I don't imagine I could justify this, to myself.

  • Great price… hopefully they keep coming down!

  • even the 256GB version of this drive is quite reasonably priced right now without a discount. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768803-REG/Crucial_Tec…

  • Same dollar for dollar price as the 128GB version from Amazon.

    • Wha? How do you work that out the 128 M4 is $179 … how is that the same as anything else mention on this page?

    • Actually byte per dollar, if Elijha is correct, this is a better deal than the 128Gb.

  • +1

Expect 1 dollar per gig toward the end of this year, yeah ~~

    • Hopefully. Last year was almost $2/gb

    • Hopefully I wouldn't mind getting a SSD for my PC, though minus my /users/ folder in my operating systems drive, I just can't see myself using more then 100GB, I'm at 52gb at the moment and got a fair few programs installed.

      • Storage space always gets filled… it's some kind of law ;(

  • Thanks OP

  • How do you get that price protecon? It's $659.95+$35.26 for UPS Worldwide Expedited to Australia.

oops - just realised you're showing the AU conversion not US…

    • Correct - this is what I was charged for after shipping and conversion.

  • Good deal indeed! Paid $700 a few weeks back direct from Crucial. I had to do the firmware upgrade which was pretty painless. Great drive.

    • Worth doing the firmware so early? Only affects drives after 5000 hours or so.
Think I'll wait until I'm closer to that sort of usage - will probably be a newer update by then.

  • wow, wish if i had $700 lying around

    • +8

Go to the ATM, withdraw $700, go home, throw it around the bedroom. Viola, you now have $700 lying around :D

This deal isnt so great… unless you need the space but dont mind having a "SLOWER" SSD…

This drive here is almost twice as fast.

    http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…

    Read: 555MB/sec
    Write: 525 MB/sec
    VS
    Read: 500MB/sec
    Write: 260 MB/sec

on the Crucial M4 512GB SSD

And this one is great value
Corsair Force Series 3 240GB SSD $395.00 - again almost twice as fast.

Those numbers are with highly compressible data (Corsair loves to inflate their numbers), so in reality, you may or may not get that kinda performance while paying ~27% more ($/GB).

People here also seem to have a tendency to prefer Intel/Crucial SSDs since they don't run on Sandforce controllers.

SandForce SF-2281 have twice the write speeds and 25% more the read.

The Crucial M4 512GB SSD is "NOT" a SandForce SSD.

Worlds fastest SSD's are all SandForce based and every single review proves this. ( not only on compressed files but in everything )

This Crucial M4 SSD is only comparable to the older generation SandForce drives.
thats it, get your facts correct befor posting please
