  • Good camera - I just bought it as a grey import for around $230, but would have shelled the extra to get it locally to save any warranty headaches. Good bargain.

  • I have the TZ10, and it takes gorgeous photos. see my deviantart page for sample shots: http://andg5thou.deviantart.com

      Love the moss plant photo!

    • Sweet photos, nice work.

    • Some nice composition (you), but the purple fringing (camera) is a bit severe.

    • TZ10 has worked great for me too, I paid ~$400. Realistically you need an SLR to really take it to the next level above this.

    • Just wondering why the camera data for the Panasonic shots state DMC-TZ7 and not TZ10? By the way, the Fujifilm Finepix S7000 takes some lovely shots!

  • yeh great camera , i bought the cann sx230hs because it was cheaper at the time but would have preferred the tz20.

    • Why would you prefer the tz20? I've been looking at comparison reviews and most of them give it to sx230. I have seen it recently for $216 from Australian supplier, so it is very tempting. I would love to know if the canon sx230 is capable of the photo quality that 'andg5thou' just showed us.

      • I own PANASONIC TZ7 and TZ10 and recently bought TZ20 for my friend. The camera is simply superb! It takes fantastic quality photos and excellent HD video.
16X Optical zoom is really rear in cameras of this size.
As for the price $216 that some sites sell it for - it's grey import plus you will be charged at least $50 for shipping.

        • Shop further (eg, on eBay)… Many offer free shipping, some also include a spare [non-genuine] battery and/or memory card.

Check regularly, before buying, new offers come up regularly.

      • Link up the $216 supplier!

        • It varies daily… several [eBay] vendors offer the same model with different prices, sometimes with "extras"

Start shopping around 2-3 months before you need the camera, to get the best deal; don't spend too much time on it, just a few minutes / day will do… else the value of your time could outweigh your savings.

  • I had a TZ10 as well, great camera. I'm sure the TZ20 would be just as good moving onto a CMOS sensor now.

    • TZ10 & [I presume] TZ18 & TZ20, also… each came in:

. an "Aussie" version - PAL video output available; AND

. a "US" ver - with only NTSC vid output

      ( Do the '18 & '20 follow that pattern? )

With the Aussie $ hovering around (even above) buying US$ 1.05,
I'd say this is the PERFECT time to buy this camera from an HK-
based eBay (or other known to be reliable) vendor).

I'm sure you can find a good, reliable vendor, who will deliver
a 'TZ20 for much less, WITH a memory card, & maybe an extra
battery! It won't hurt you to look for one, in any case. :-)

The 'TZ20 is in the downward (post peak) price-slope
    of its price-to-date graph.

Be sure you like using a touch pad, 'cause this digcam has one.

    • If you like the TZ20's features, but do NOT need a GPS… consider a TZ18, which is also available cheap from HK-based eBay vendors.

OTOH, you'll only save ~ $30 (so, why not enjoy a new GPS feature for a song)

  • Picked this up at Joyce Mayne last year during their 30 per cent off sale. It's a great camera, takes awesome macro.

  • I had a previous version of this camera, and from the reviews it looks like little has changed, in terms of image quality. Outdoor photos are simple brilliant, zoom is very flexible and stabilisation is very effective. Indoors, and it begins to break down with lots of noise appearing all too soon. Video is fantastic, in well lit conditions outdoors. The powerful macro capabilities of this camera enable it to get that shallow depth of field "blurred background" look very easily, especially if you zoom in a bit, but at normal distances you will not get this effect much at all.

My camera died after the lens cover broke and would't open, and I have seen this to be a common problem on this model series.

Great camera, but lighting makes all the difference with panasonic cameras as they have higher noise levels than for example a sony of comparable price (e.g. HX5).

    • Indoors, and it begins to break down with lots of noise appearing all too soon

The results I've had differ from that.

Anyone who might decide to wrangle a memory card as part of the deal, you'll need class 10 for the video.

      • Perhaps I'm picky. Handheld, in room lighting only, it is close to unusable. On a bright day with lots of light coming in a window, you would have better results. In short, high iso performance is terrible compared to the competition, lots of chroma noise and loss of detail.

  • I have been researching super zooms recently and I can tell you that this camera has very bad reviews all over the interwebs when it comes to image quality.

  • have it. love it. recommend it.

can be had cheaper overseas but great price for au based seller!

  • The TZ-30 model should be introduced any day now. Historically the TZ models are annonced in late January. I'm waiting out for this, and as SpaceNinja commented, the image quality can be really bad (for indoor pics)

    • I second that.
outdoor with plenty of light = very very nice photos.
indoor or low light = very grainy photos. it's a big issue.
(well, it's a major flaw for most compact cameras anyway. the tz series is not an exception)
