The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs.
USB Direct

Dolby Digital
Because Dolby Digital, the world's leading digital multi-channel audio standards, make use of the way the human ear naturally processes sound, you experience superb quality surround sound audio with realistic spatial cues.
40W RMS
This system has 40W RMS total output power. RMS refers to Root Mean Square which is a typical measurement of audio power, or rather, the electrical power transferred from an audio amplifier to a loudspeaker, which is measured in watts. The amount of electrical power delivered to the loudspeaker and its sensitivity determines the sound power that is generated. The higher the wattage, the better the sound power emitted by the speaker.

  • Does it have an iPod/iPhone dock by any chance? (Couldn't find a reference to the dock in the specification)

    • Doesn't look like it - http://tinyurl.com/7vfghl9 If it did I'm sure they would have been really pushing that feature.

      • Any stand out features then? Looks pretty standard to me but a great price for an entry model nonetheless.

  • "cinematic room-filling sound"

Ha ha ha ha- Thanks for that absurd waffle. Cheered me up, brought a smile to my face on this very wet day.

Maybe if you installed it in the dunny it would fill the room.

"40W RMS total output power" God knows what that means in real watts rms per channel at a specified frequency range and a specified distortion level. Maybe 8?

    • +1

In an effort not to lose the meaningless specification war Philips do quote 800W PMPO on their web site, so 40W RMS at saner distortion levels doesn't sound too big a stretch. I've got a 20W Logitech S135 iPod dock sitting next to my computer (which is NOT in the dunny!); I wouldn't use it to hold a house party, but it's plenty loud enough to get complaints from the wife when she's a few rooms away.

(I find it hilarious that anyone still quotes PMPO - reminds me of when Nintendo and Sega started quoting their game cartridge capacity in megabits. There should be an ISO standard prefix "pimpo" for meaningless overrated numbers in gear specs… "over 9000 pimpowatts home theatre system!" or "15 pimpopixel cheap point and shoot ultra zoom camera".)

  • and a specified load, i.e. ohms

    • +1

It's 40W into their supplied speakers, so the load is whatever their speakers present to the amp.
