RRP $119. But that could be exaggerated.

EDIT: After some "coffee-savvy" comments: This product is actually pretty good for grinding coffee! Though, for every coffee home method other than espresso machine. I assumed the rule of thumb applied (same amount of money should be used for grinder and and machine).
I dunno what you would use this for other than chopping herbs, spices etc. Or pulling it out of the cup and blending soup. EDIT: This function relates to the handy, separate attachment.

for $30, a sunbeam, it would probably suffice.

One day only, online only. Free Delivery.

I doubt this can be used to blend soup ect.. the cup way too small.. all good for is coffee - hence the name -GRINDmaster. I would suggest going for a stick blender if u want to wisk up food

      • you said "the cup is way too small"
      • ozAzn said "pulling it out of the cup and blending soup."

      • you said "I would suggest going for a stick blender"

      • oAzn said "Bonus stick mixer attachment"

With coffee grinders you really get what you pay for so I suspect the grinder attachment will probably be pretty rubbish for grinding coffee.. i doubt you'll get much consistency. So I'd agree with ozAzn - For $30 its a good deal for a spice grinder and stick blender.

    • I was going to say the same thing too until I looked at the picture. A burr grinder is a device to grind hard, small items between two revolving abrasive surfaces at a set gap (like a small grindstone in a windmill for grinding grain. They produce particles of a uniform size. These are typically used for coffee beans, peppercorns, coarse salt, spices, and seeds. They would be useless to blend with.

It seems the motor for the grinder is in the shape of a stick, and the burr grinder is an attachment. They provide another attachment that you can replace this with and it is a traditional stick mixer used for blending, crushing ice, making milkshakes, etc., basically to mix, chop, blend, or puree food like a food processor.

      • Yeah I noticed it was a burr grinder.. but i'm still skeptical with such a small, cheap device how stable the burrs are, and what the quality of them is. Burr grinders can have consistency problems too… obviously not as bad as the cheap motorized blade "grinders". In either case even as a motorized spice grinder and stick blender $30 is still a good deal.

  • EDIT: I was thinking the EM-0480

  • it looks very 'stimulating'…

Just don't mix up the attachments if you are going to use it for this purpose :)

I consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to coffee (have roasted my own coffee from green beans for several years) and I've just ordered one. I'd make the following caveats:

    • If you're using pre-ground coffee and always held off getting whole beans as you didn't have a grinder, consider this a cheap way to TRY grinding on demand (is EASILY the single biggest improvement in coffee quality a home user can get - all things being equal)

    • This is still a very, VERY entry level burr grinder - as such it will probably be borderline at best in producing a uniform sized grind - as such it may struggle a bit if you're planning on using it in tandem with an espresso machine (that said good rule of thumb is ALWAYS spend the same on your grinder as your machine) - however its grind should be quite suitable for plunger, perculator, stove top and all other coffee making methods (not turkish though!)

So if you have an espresso machine REALLY you should consider matching it with a far superior grinder (haha shame on you not having done this before now - the Breville Smart Grinder is well regarded) but for all other home coffee makers this unit should give a reasonable result (far superior to the spice grinders/blade choppers!) and is small and convenient.

PS. No offence meant, but the original post and also the product itself is a bit confusing….the small pictures of it also don't assist in users seeing that its primarily meant as a coffee grinder, with the section for this attaching quite nicely onto the top motor section. The hand blending attachment is really just an extra bit of functionality that would see you remove the coffee grinding section.

Plunger users (and similar) will find it very handy that you can essentially grind directly into your coffee making vessel….they say this also can be done for espresso makers into the basket/grouphead but I do think this would be a tad messy. I sometimes use an Aeropress at times and this suits it very well also. :-)

Also has some extra uses in the kitchen with the hand blender attachment - for this price its quite a good buy. Nice posting OP!

    • I have been looking for a burr grinder for a while, but I don't want to spend a lot so this offer is very welcome. That said, I got my espresso machine used for $50 so I'm almost sticking to your rule ;)

    • straying off topic a little here, but I haven't been able to find a Breville Smart Grinder in stock anywhere….don't suppose you know where it might be?

      • Pure speculation here, but might be that everyone's sold out of the previous version that needed the shim kit. I heard Breville were rejigging the design so that it would grind finer out of the box, without needing the shims.

        • I thought the Sunbream EM0480 was the one that needed a shim kit? or does the breville smart grinder have a similar problem?

      • No it's definitely the Breville BCG800 that needs the shim kit. Do a youtube search for the Breville smartgrinder there are two vids by Seattle coffe that shows pre and post shim performance. Despite the shim issue I'd still recommend this as equal to the best grinders in the sub 500 range.

  • I need a new device for grinding "herbs". Wonder how well this would work?

  • Tried grinding coffee in my barmix chopper, completely useless.
I suspect this would be similar.

No, see my post above http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62298#comment-739890, this is two devices in one. A Bamix will chop the beans into small powder and heat it up in the process from the friction from the blades, the grinder uses a couple of rough disks to crack it into small pieces of uniform size. Think grinder like the bottom of a pepper mill that you turn, they look like this http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M_TDkGTV5o8/Tn3KbS91FAI/AAAAAAAAAw… and have a crushing motion as they turn.

      From the product description:
"The Sunbeam GrindMaster EM0360 is a Conical burr coffee grinder…"

      • Yep, for coffee beans: 'blade' style coffee grinders = bad. 'conical burr' style grinders = good.

        barmix is a blade type.

  • It's only $30 with both mixer and burr grinder,it's a steal and worth a try. If it's gone kaput, I just waste 30 bucks. For me, I'm the only one who drinks coffee at home and mostly in the weekend morning. The rest of the weekdays I won't have time to make coffee since I usually rush to work in the morning. So I won't wear this one out to death that soon and the size of grinder for just one cup of coffee is good enough for me.

  • This is back on sale with a price reduction, now $25. Online only special. Ends March 11. While Stocks last. http://www.bigw.com.au/home-garden/small-appliances/coffee-m…
