      • Let us what they charged you. I am few days behind you on same journey so will take a call based on that. 🙈

    • +2

I queried this last time from Asurion. They said just wait for the charge to show up, which will be within 14 days of you being sent the return label.

  • Missed the boat as waited for $50 voucher to arrive! S21, still worth at $649? $600 below RRP and unfortunately not $449 any more

    • +3

Depends how desperate you are. Personally, these 'deals' have come up in slightly different forms like 5-6 times now… and the $200 voucher a few times, so it seems unlikely samsung are not aware of it when they keep giving out the vouchers. Additionally, waiting may have the benefit of seeing what happens with others regarding potential complications with the plethora of trade in scenarios previously discussed.

      • thank you, it make sense

  • +1

Funny story here… was cleaning out my Note10 box as trading that in for the S21, only discovered just now (1.5 years after purchase) that there was a case in the box…
I could've just used that instead of a cheap pink case from the mall until my Spigen case arrived in the mail back in 2019. Going to overly examine every phone box I get now because of this lol

    • Yeah, some phones come with a clear case. So.u can use that for the time being

  • Question about the trade in , do you send Asurion/Samsung only the old mobile phone or do you also have to send charging cable and adapter as well ? Please can someone confirm. ? Thanks in advance

    • Phone only. No box or accessories required.

  • Any recommendation for a strong tradie case for the S21? Thanks

  • +2

Here is a key sentence in the "return your old phone" message drom Samsung/Asurion - so what might this late return fee be?

Once your new phone is successfully set up, you'll need to return your original device within 7 days to avoid a late return charge.

  • Anyone having issues with the Trade in process? Received the code via email, entering the number on Samsung website continually prompts me with an error..

  • +6

Just got a follow-up email to return my device (7 days since original return notice) with this additional line:

"If we don't receive your device within 7 days of this email, you may be charged a non-return fee of up to $95."

As my trade-in value was $95, sounds like if they don't receive it by 14 days then they will just charge that amount.

    • +5

Emailed me stating - if you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit you received at checkout when purchasing your new device. After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. Please keep in mind that any promotions or bonuses you received in addition to your trade-in credit are managed by Samsung directly and Asurion does not manage or apply extra promotional credit. We hope that this information has been helpful.

      • +2

Received the same thing this morning too.

Looks like it all depends if Samsung charges us with the $400.

        • I also got the same response and I would rather keep my old phone and them charge me the trade in value. Do you think they will charge the $400 aswell?

          • @tiji: I don't think anyone knows for sure mate, but I have posted my thoughts a couple of comments further down below.

Short answer is I don't think so. :)

  • Looks like Samsung still handing out the $200 code but it can't be stacked with other promotion. Got the below from a support chat.

"Samsung has updated the guidelines for our loyalty voucher codes. They are no longer stackable with other promotion or discounts like the pre-paid discounted RRP."

    • I just asked for a $200 code and they said they gave them all out last week :/

      • +1

        You can have mine. R2B-7G97-36FH-6KZR

        • Tried but didn't work :( thanks anyways

  • So the $200 discount voucher and ue the $50 newsletter sign-up voucher are not stackable? Or the bonus trade in $400?

    • The $200 voucher doesn't stack anymore.

      • Doesn't stack with the $50 voucher or the $400 trade in as well? If so, that fkn sucks.

        • You can use the $400 trade and newsletter together just not the $200.

  • Ive just received the Gold S21+, delivery was expected 4/5 weeks. Ordered on Friday.

For those of you who are wondering if we will be charged with the $400 bonus for not returning our phone (by either Samsung or Asurion), I think Ausrion's latest reply gave me comfort that it WON'T happen.

The email below from Asurion basically confirmed that we will only be charged by Asurion for the trade-up value of the phone, but not the bonus.

    "
If you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit you received at checkout when purchasing your new device. After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. "

For those who are worried that Samsung might eventually charge us with the $400 bonus when they are informed by Asurion that we didn't return our phone, especially because of clause 6.2 in the T&C (https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/assets/au/terms/trade-up/samsung-online-trade-up-terms.pdf?$ORIGIN_PDF$). I just realised that the T&C is set by Asurion, not Samsung, see clause 1.1 below.

1.1 You are entering into these Terms and Conditions with Asurion Australia Pty Ltd ABN 18 155 388
    275 (“Asurion”, “Us”, “We”).

In other words, we have never agreed to any T&C allowing Samsung Australia to charge us with the bonus $400.

Hope this is useful for some of you that are still waiting for an answer on this.

    • That means asurion makes free money from samsung selling us the phone.

      • Samsung is most likely going to claw back the trade in value of the phone from Asurion, but that's a contract between them and shouldn't affect us.

Or maybe, when the trade in ID was entered during checkout, Samsung would've sent an invoice to Asurion as Asurion will receive a second hand phone from the purchaser.

        • As long as they leave us out of it now 😅. Have yoi received your phone? I got mine yesterday but no email for returning the device yet.

  • +2

I am not fully convinced that the $400 rebate will not be on charged if you do not return the phone. But is seems unlikely that Samsung would do it given the bad press it would cause.

When you use the testing program and get to the end, it says Samsung (not Asurion Australia Pty Ltd) will only charge your credit card if you do not return the device…. Possible fees & charges if the device is not returned $35 (being the valuation of the device). Relying on this would mean the $400 cannot be charged.

Still the purchase contract with Samsung requires the phone to be returned in order to get the $400 discount. Perhaps it easiest way to avoid charge backs is to pay via Paypal and removing the credit card afterwards.

Just got a Facebook notification from Samsung - Trade up to Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G for as little as $679*. Plus use code "UPGRADE" at checkout to claim $100 worth of accessories, including S Pen and Case….. offers end 27 May. So if you're getting the Ultra use this promo code. Cheers halvey.

    • +1

Also works for non-Ultra too. The discount comes up when you put at least $100 of accessories. But at this stage, I'll wait until the $200 discount can be applied again or something equivalent to that.

      • Sounds like a plan :-)

    • Is the upgrade code just for ultra?

    • Thanks works!

  • -8

I spoke with Samsung sales today and they confirmed that they will charge the $400 if the phone is not returned.

  • I got my $200 code from a rep and it doesn't even work. Cheers Samsung

    • Yeah. They changed the terms yesterday :(

    • You can't use the $200 on S21 series. Can use on S20FE which is pointless.

  • +1

I'm so shattered that I missed this deal by hours 😭

    • +1

No need to be, likely to see better deal at end of financial year.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just got my phone delivered today. A total discount of $800 plus the $15 for my S7 edge, lol. Did the same for my wife's S9 plus in prior deal, but without the additional $150 discount or $50 first purchase code.

Both of our phones got delivered the following morning after we ordered. Overall great discount for both of us.

  • +1

Soo after reading people posting about how we may get charged the $400 by Samsung I couldn't help myself and went back to the previous $500 trade up deal posted on OzB and noticed the reply from Asurion has changed from their previous replies; this is what they replied last time:

"Thanks for your query. If you wish to not return your old device, you will only be charged the amount that you were offered for your old device and it will no longer be a requirement to return the old device to us. Any promotion offer will still remain as it is. Hope that information was helpful."

In this reply ^^^ they specifically mention - '…Any promotion offer will still remain as it is'.

Freaking out a tad bit coz my Note8's pen is cooked but otherise in mint condition and wasn't lanning on sending it anyways in the first place.

    Thoughts?

    • So many people asking this but what's the point?! It's all speculation, no one has actually reported that they have been charged the trade in bonus (Except for 1 person but is universally accepted that he/she is lying).

Do the right thing and send it back otherwise accept the consequences. On a balance of probabilities and vague wording in T&C's, most comments feel it will not be charged back.

      • +3

Yep agree with this. Overall, think the risk is relatively low as if someone here got charged the trade in bonus from last deals, there'll definitely be noise in the past and current threads.

I've just sent my pristine s8+ back and it was a relatively easy process at the post office (sprinkled in with the usual unnecessary attitude from the workers there). At the end of the day, I deemed it not worth the risk of the trade in bonus being charged and I never end up selling my old phones even though i tell myself i should :)

        • Thanks for the review sixnout, did the posty worker check the condition of phone or just chuck it in the bag?

          • +1

@woodyroo: Just chucked it in the bag, didn't look at all.

Steps were literally, go to counter, show PDF which they scanned from my phone. Worker asked what i was sending back, went to get a postage bag/pack of appropriate size (bubble wrapped inside), placed phone within bag, got me to sign the front of bag, gave me a receipt and that was it.

Would recommend taking photos of your phone's condition before sending. That bag/pack looks fairly thin, albeit has bubble wrap protection inside, so could potentially be damaged in transit.

          • +3

@woodyroo: I just returned my trade-in phone. The postal guy just chucked in a pre-paid bubble cushioned bag. I only took a photo of the phone just to prove it was not broken.

I agree with above, we need to do the right thing. Samsung did good this time around with a superb deal. We got $400 trade-in bonus and surely it's not worth the worry of credit card being debited that amount.

Is it worth the risk to keep the phone, absolutely not.

        • Fair enough agree with you all; the right thng to do is to send the phone in.

          However, my other question is:

In the case that your phone is not deemed acceptable i.e. damaged/screen cracked; Asurion is going to charge you the trade-in value. Soo if the phone is not acceptable will they still charge you the $400?

          • +2

@tojy: In my opinion, sending in what ends up being assessed as an ineligible device is the same as not sending the device at all. Either way you haven't provided an eligible device for trade-in. So they'll either charge the $400 trade-in bonus for both scenarios, or for neither scenario.

            • @tbone74: Cheers for that; makes the decision making much easier then.

Given my s-pen is broken there's no point sending it in; they're going to charge me the tradeup value and the $400 irrespective of me sending it in or not. (i.e if they charge the $400)

Just seen a couple of posts where a few peeps didn't get their trade up value for the smallest scratch/dent

            • @tbone74: If your device is eligible I don't see the worse case scenario (being debited $400) take place. I speak for myself here and happy with my decision to send back. Of course there is always a risk it gets received broken in transit or broken as it's being inspected but still you can argue and prove your case with pics you have taken already. Getting a $400 debit hit reversed and dealing with samsung or Ausrion or both I can imagine will not be pleasant.

            • +3

@tbone74: I have received confirmation from Samsung that a returned device that no longer meets eligibility (broken screen in my case) will forfeit the trade in value but NOT the bonus $400!

              • @Bart81: Any chance you could copy paste the email? I've asked too however, haven't got a response yet :/

Curious to see the wording of the email, especially if the non eligible phone can be returned.

  • +3

Looks like the $200 code can be applied to other phones that already has discount applied to it except S21 series. I tried on Note 20 Ultra which already has $500 discount can get $200 extra on that just not S21 series.

  • Oh damn… I had both the $50 and $200 that I was about to use…
Did they block it last night?

    • They changed the T&C of the $200 to be non-stackable. The $50 one should work fine however.

      • crap… I shouldn't have hesitated…

        • Gotta seize the opportunity before it disappears bro

  • Should have ordered yesterday :(

  • Can i clarify the s21+ comes with a screen protector pre installed?

    • Yes it does.

      • Thanks King

      • Is it only for S21+? What about S21?

        • +1

The whole s21 range have them pre-installed.

          • @nmcc08: What's the material? It's different from the normal plastic cover, isn't it?

        • I ordered the screen protector prior to opening up the phone only to find out afterwards it has already been applied by Samsung, doh…

  • +1

Just so all can see, I have received confirmation from Samsung that a returned phone that no longer meets eligibility requirements (broken screen in my case) will forfeit the trade in value but NOT the bonus $400!

    • Interesting, will Asurion simply return your broken phone and debit you the trade in value?

      • No, they will "recycle" it.

        • +1

According to the T&C's they're supposed to return it to you.

          • @tbone74: Only if you request it be returned. In that case I don't know what would happen. But you do have to pay for the return shipping.
*Edit. You are correct. I was looking at the US terms and conditions

          • @tbone74: What the point of even sending the broken phone in then?

            • @tojy: Sorry was trying to reply to Bart81

    • +1

Can you please copy and paste the email?

      • +1

I reckon Bart81's just taking the piss and trying to rile us up. Unlikely Samsung's going to send a reply phrased like that and to ONLY ONE person out of all us peeps who've asked.

    • Same here, could you please copy/paste the email response?
Would help heaps in understanding this!

  • Ended up getting an ultra for $750 before they closed the $200 voucher off. Thanks fellow ozbargainers

  • +1

Asurion confirmed I will be charged the $25 trade in price. I haven't opened mine in case charged $400 for the trade in. 5 days and tempted to open it tonight.
The device they are recorded as to be traded in is listed wrong for some reason.

    • Can you please copy and paste the reply you recieved from Asurion.

    • FYI - You only have 14 days to 'change your mind and it's unlikely they will start charging the $400 anytime soon

  • If you're about to buy a screen protector, remember that it already has two plastic protectors applied - one just to prevent box damage and another a regular.

For the under-screen fingerprint reader, remember to remove at least one of the plastic protectors before setting up.
Also, glass protectors tend to be less responsive than a plastic one.

    • Sorry you mean to say if I feel plastic protectors are good enough, there is no need to purchase a protector seperately?

      • +1

        Yep.

      • The applied screen protector is good enough for me.It works OK with the finger print reader and very thin, which looks very nice.

  • +1

Has anyone not returned their phone and got charged yet?

  • "Device Non-Return Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when
Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device
Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions"

This ^^^ is from Samsung's T&C's for this deal; I imagine if they mention the discounts that were applied at the 'point of sale' it includes everything??!

    i.e Trade-in value of phone+Trade-in Bonus+Chat voucher($200)+Newsletter($50)?

    • +4

I just received an email stating "If we don't receive your device within 7 days of this email, you may be charged a non-return fee of up to $15"
      $15 being the trade-in value

      • Me too - this is the second follow up 'nag' message "If we don't receive your device within 7 days of this email, you may be charged a non-return fee of up to $60." (I am keeping my old S9)

    • +2

This T&C is an agreement between you and Asurion and Asurion has stated that they will not charged you with the bonus.

Samsung does not have anything to stand on for them to charge you with the bonus.

      • Hmm… but aren't you entering into a contract with Samsung as well for the $400 discount?

        • Which clause of the said contract allows Samsung to charge you back for the $400 bonus though?

The clause you quoted is part of a contract with Asurion, not Samsung.

          • @victorheaven: Agree with you that we are technically entering this contract with Asurion but their second point (1.2) also states:

1.1 You are entering into these Terms and Conditions with Asurion Australia Pty Ltd ABN 18 155 388 275 (“Asurion”, “Us”, “We”).

1.2 Samsung Electronics Australia Pty Ltd, its employees and contractors (collectively “Samsung”) may provide elements of the Program as Our agent.

Any lawyers up in here that could help us interpret the contract?

  • Just got denied on the price guarantee claim. I have ANZ visa (which uses Allianz). They said it needed to be a physical store, not online store. Went onto Samsung chat and they said the sale price is only online and not in their physical stores. So there goes my chance to try and appeal the decision

  • Asurion has advised that "the Android lock feature is still enabled on your original device".
They want me to "deactivate this feature from your new device or PC".
"If the lock is not turned off within 10 days, your original device will be returned to you and we will be charging your nominated credit card the trade-in value credit of $5".

The phone had a factory reset done before sending and no google account was inputted to the phone. So I can't erase remotely.
Looks like a tricky one to me - at least they didn't try to say my phone was damaged.

    • +1

      What phone is it?

Surely your phone is worth much more than $5..

      • Samsung S7 - their trade in value was $5. Yes it could be sold for far more than that, but it was all I had that was acceptable to them to trade in.
Similarly an S9 is only $60, which is not exciting news.

  • +1

"If the lock is not turned off within 10 days, your original device will be returned to you and we will be charging your nominated credit card the trade-in value credit of $5".

dont reply & they will send you your phone back & charge you $5, im sure you can get more then $5 reselling it
