Be careful of your dates. I think it's 28 days, not one month (leap year remember).

  • HN castle hill, NSW has alot of stock! Just bought one myself :)

  • +3

Bought one from HN Alexandria. Wife not happy:'(

    • +3

      It's for her right ;)

    • +2

got one too.. and yes, wife not happy :)

  • $59 gets you 3 years replacement warranty from day one + a photo book free per year + 300 free photos. Good deal me thinks.

    • +1

I got it for $50 from HN chadstone… So people ask for $50 and they will surely do it….

      • Wouldn't you agree that that's well worth your ~$50? I mean 300 photos (6x4) is worth $30 (when they're on special at 10c)

    • Brown's plains store offered me it for 119 wtf. Can I go back and get the extended warranty for that price?

      • HN in Melb CBD wanted $139 for 3 year warranty + 16GB SD + 300 photos. I mentioned people here got the warranty for ~$50-60 and he said there was no way they could do that. Best was that he could throw in another 8GB SD card for the $139.

    • got one at Knox, VIC.
was offered the extended warranty deal for $89… pass

      • I was there earlier today and they had the sign up for %498. I'm pretty keen on a new camera but not going to go for it until I can get the rebate when I travel OS in October

  • +2

    At $450 got Camera+Replacement warranty+8 gb Sandisk sd card…..

  • Did anyone buy it in Adelaide? I couldn't buy it in Marion and Port road harvey norman with $398 price.

    • perhaps try buying it online, with the option of free pickup

  • Purchased @ Armadale Perth - got offered warranty @ $69 but didn't take it.

I have worked with a gold coast based photographer self taught, uses a 1000d (earlier model of this camera) her photos are breathtaking. She had just upgraded to a 7d. It's not always just about the gear

    • +3

      careful…. this is a sensible comment….

  • +1

Agree, people complaining about this camera is not good enough should know that it's not always just about the gear

  • Can anyone recommend a good, cheap second lense to go with this kit?

  • +1

My brief research in the four hours I've had it points towards this being the best option for a second lens
    http://cameraparadise.com/Canon-EF-S-55-250mm-f/4-5.6-IS-II-…
    ~$190.00 delivered.

      • Looks exactly the same to me, just pricier!

    • It depends what you want the second lens for. A 50mm prime lens is 'the best' lens upgrade if you want to get into shooting portrait shots. The lens you linked to is probably a very reasonable lens if you want to take shots of landscapes and more distant things, but will require much more stabilisation (ie a tripod) and not let you do some of the basic but cool things such as playing with the aperture to get some parts in focus, other parts blurry.

  • Thanks OP and feedback/comments.

Went and got myself one at Hardly Normal in Liverpool (Orange Grove homemaker centre). Been having fun all arvo/evening trying to work out how to use it (outside of auto settings) - it's my first DSLR, am a bit baffled.

    • +1

did you buy the $15 DSLR dvd, it really helps a lot.

      • No I didn't. They had those $15 dvd's for $8 next to the camera counter. I will drop by on my way home after work and get it.

  • Thanks guys for all your feedbacks,550D looks like is a much better camera. will buy it when I have enough money saved for it. Cheers.

    • that is a good decision. Save around $1000 then spend on an extra lens or two, a nice bag and a tripod.

  • should i step up from my nex-3 to this?
wait, would it even be a "step up" at all?

    • It's a completely different style of camera. It may be a step up though it's more of a step sidewase to something different.

I suggest to everyone to purchase a larger SD card from MSY:
    http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

Cheaper than buying it from HN.

    • Got 8gb sandisk SD card as a bonus with camera from HN Chadstone.

      • +1

Make sure you get a class 10 sd to ensure that its fast enough for those burst shots or HD vids.

      • Nice
Getting it a a bonus is awesome :)
But if you need a larger one or need to buy one because they didn't give you a bonus; then MSY is a pretty cheap place to go~

        • Or get the same card via Price beat from Officeworks- even cheaper!
          e.g. 8GB Toshiba SD for under $9 !

  • +4

Just a warning; buying this cheap DSLR camera will surely mean you will slowly start to develop a sickness known as lens addiction. You will go to bed dreaming about glass…L glass, thin red stripes, sleek off-white tubular forms, etc. Your bank account will suffer…you've been warned.

    • LOL… you mean the L fever right? huh, took a while too cure that :-)

      • +3

there's no cure for it :)

    • +1

I've had mine for 12 hours and already ordered two additional lenses, a bag, tripod and filter. I check Ozbargain every five minutes hoping there will be a new lenses deal.
      I need help!

what len's did you go for ?

  • Seems to have been expired on the website: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/canon-eos-d-dslr-single-lens-…
    Its back to $648 now!

  • Sorry, Please excuse my ignorance…what is the difference between an IS and EF-S lens?

    • Image Stabilisation

  • Just got mine from Liverpool Orange Grove Centre, they said they had about 10 left this morning..
I love it! I am a complete amateur and it is perfect for me and I'll get GST back too as I'm going overseas in 2 weeks!

The man tried to sell me every possible accessory but was still friendly when I said no thanks..

    Great deal! Thanks OP!

    • -2

I hope you spent another $2 there! You need to spend $400 on one day (or in one transaction) at one shop to get your 1/11 back ($36 for purchases worth $400)

      • wasn't it $300 + transactions on which you got CST refunded?

      • +1

Spend $300 (GST inclusive) or more in the one store and get a single tax invoice.

        This is from customs website.

        • yep, thats what i thought!

      • Sorry.

  • Great post. Just got one from City West (WA). Got them to throw in a lowepro adventura 140 bag for $38 (RRP $49).

    • Got mine for $28.50 from OW

      • where and when? :P

        • sorry not the 140 but the lowepro adventura 160. Officeworks pricebeat the link below by 5% to $28.20

          http://www.videopro.com.au/p-3649-lowepro-adventura-160-6806…

It's still in stock so you could probably get it pricematched at your local officeworks if they had stock. Mine was the last one on ACT

          It's a good case but now that I have a crumpler 7MDH, I don't need this one :(

  • Great deal, I paid double for the previous model (with 3 lens' however). Good entry level camera.

  • I bought it yesterday, its great for my first camera!
The guy tried to convince me to buy a L.E red one for like 900$.
Also get a bag and IR filter (forgot exact name) so you don't damage it!

    • You probably mean UV filter.

  • How fast is the delivery from videopro? I'm going overseas next week, thinking of getting both deals the Camera + bag

    • Not sure why, but it seems the bag has a delivery charge of 11$ to Melbourne.

    • can you not buy from Officeworks nearby?

      • I wish I had an office works nearby which stocked this. Anyway, Got the lowepro passport sling bag for $65. I think it is a better bag..

  • +1

anyone order this online? still waiting for them to contact me/deliver.

  • +1

I ordered camera this morning. Waited for tax invoice that hasn't show up until 3 pm until my lunch time then went to HN. The was no invoice, however I printed my order for $398. The guy responsible for that kind of online transaction looked at my HN order, checked the system, told me to wait 10 min and brought the box. No questions asked, no extra offers, nice and smooth transaction. My nearest HN is just 5 min walk and I wanted to get my Canon before public holiday. Worked for me very well this time.

    • ended up doing the same. they refunded postage for me as well, atleast now I can get some nice shots over the weekend!

  • Good deal. cheers

  • Would anyone please be able to scan a copy of their receipt showing them getting extended warranty for under $89.

I tried getting this yesterday, and i really want extended warranty, but the person behind the counter said that this is the best they could do…

  • -3

i bought a single lens Canon 550D 18-55 IS kit (Australian stock) from www.ryda.com.au for $660. A much better camera with a much better lens is worth the extra cost.

  • Probably a stupid question… but is this deal still active? I dug up this ad, but found no expiry date…

    • till sold out, which it probably would have been given the sheer number of people I have seen with a 1100D in Canberra alone

    • I just bought one today @ North Ryde (in Sydney).

They still have 6 or so and I'm pretty sure they'll be on sale tomorrow (please double check by calling first).

  • Just called up the Braybook (Vic) Harvey Norman… They said the sale ended yesterday and now they are for $498 :(

  • Yeah…same for Auburn.. But I called the City one, they confirmed that they can backorder for the same price?

  • +1

It is still available to pick up by this link, it is now actully $386 !!!
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/canon-eos-1100d-dslr-camera-b…

Is thare a HN in Westfield so that I can pick up the $20 Westfield gift card as well?

    • *Excludes major retailer, department store, supermarket, liquor, lotto, prescription medicine, mobile recharge card, cigarette purchases and car park, bill and layby payments.

i think HN counts as major retailer/department store
