  • 3 years warranty is pretty good.

Officeworks monitors are always 2-3 years older than the latest models

    • Maybe it looks that way because they don't stop selling current models the moment a new model comes out.

e.g. the Samsung M7 was only released at the end of November 2020 and is sold by Officeworks. Or the MSI MAG274R which was only released locally in Sept 2020.

Also I imagine Officeworks caters more to office users who don't really care about the latest and greatest monitor technology, so their selection of new monitors will be skewed more towards the boring side.

    27 fhd is just wrong

Great for some people, my elderly dad for example.

dude im using a 1080p 46 inch tv as a monitor from ~1m away and it's great, 27" is fine (particularly good for lots of media consumption) and if you disagree you are just sitting too close

      • +3

For watching video, 1080p 46" is probably acceptable to some people. But it would be pretty awful for small text or any work involving fine detail from 1m away if you have regular eyesight.

Some people get large monitors so they can use large fonts to make it easier to see without glasses. In that case, lower resolution can be acceptable too as fine detail isn't as necessary.

        • for really small text it is quite awful but you'd have to go to like size 8-9 or lower for it to be noticeable, if you specifically deal with such fine text on a regular basis obviously you'd be after something more particular but for general use it's good

I think that really depends on a person's eyesight. I tried using a 32" 1080p TV as a monitor once and couldn't stand the blurry text at normal font sizes (with cleartype) or jagged edges (without). You can't just look at font pitch as it depends on what your display scaling is set to.

My main monitor is now a 4K 43" and I find it acceptable. It looks as sharp as a 22" FHD monitor.

            For reference:

            Galaxy S10 - 551ppi
            iPad Pro 10.5" - 264ppi
            1080p 22" - 100ppi
            4K 43" - 102ppi
            4K 28" - 157ppi
            4K 32" - 138ppi
            1080p 27" - 82ppi
            1080p 46" - 48ppi

            • @eug: damn never knew how low the pixel density was in monitors/TVs vs phones
yea overall it's worse but when it comes to movies/videos it's so much better, just using this temporarily though until my new monitor comes in but i could definitely see myself using a tv in place of a monitor when i become an old fart, by then we will probably be using 8k or better though

            • @eug: Curiously; did you ever grab a magnifying glass and check the subpixels?

Lots of tv's are BGR not RGB, and I think its a real significant reason a lot of people have great experiences with tv's as monitors, and some cant understand how you could use it for even a day.

Yup, they were both BGR (Sony 32" 1080p, Philips 4K 43") so they'd be comparable to each other. The only difference is the ppi. A 32" 1080p TV is only 68ppi while a 4K 43" is 102ppi. You could probably count the 32" TV's pixels with a toothpick. :)

      • Geesus i never see someone using 46 as monitor… seriously?

        • +1

I have a 48" hooked up to one of my PC's and sit 60cm away. Works well.

    • I'm using one as we speak - an Asus VG279Q and have no issue whatsoever. Text is fine down to 5 or 6 point. Smaller is pushing it.

  • VESA 100X100 according to Q & A

this is good, but only HDMI and D-Sub inputs.. monitors I am using now are DVI-D
new display port to HDMI cables will cost quite a bit

    • Maybe you can do this?

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/comsol-mal…

Can probably suss it out on aliexpress…but may take 6 months to arrive lol

    • +1

But most people will only using the hdmi input, right? Hdmi to hdmi cable is cheap

    • new display port to HDMI cables will cost quite a bit

      They're not that expensive. e.g. $14.99.

If you only need one for this monitor, you don't even need a 4K60 one like the above. This will work too, at $5.95 shipped.

      • I'm using HDMI cables that I got from eBay for $1 or $2 couple of years ago. Works great for FHD and even 4K30.

        • I think you will be limited to 30Hz though.

          • @Boodek: Not at 1080p.

            I have $13-16 cables from amazon, running 1080p @ 78hz (monitor overclock).

Displayport on GPU to HDMI on monitor.

      • Only supports 4K30, not 4K60.

        • Only supports 4K30, not 4K60.

You're right, I must have misread it. Here is a 4K60 one for $11.80 delivered.

    • "Quite a bit" is still sub $20 on amazon.

Im using about 4 of them around the house.

    • HDMI <-> DP $7 = https://www.msy.com.au/online/monitors-accessories/459-cable…

look for clearance items as well, I recently got a DP to MiniDP cable for $4, it seems that now MSY is cheaper than even ebay.

  • What do you all thing the comparison this Dell with Samsung..Dell after 20% discount only $189…
