Is it?
You were downvoted but I don't really know why (so I upvoted you). The wait time on a 3070 is down to around a couple of weeks to get one at $1,300. Back when Dell was selling similar 3070 machines for $1,900 you couldn't find cards anywhere for $1,500.
Question becomes, is the rest of the dell machine worth $800-900, for proprietary parts and probably poor cooling?
Well the 11700k and 1TB m.2 ssd and 16GB ramb is easily $600+
Yeah the CPU alone is about $550 so I'd say this is decent
I agree the proprietary PSU and mobo are a bit crap.
its very stupid for ppl to pretend to be smart and decide what is a good deal and what is not
currently there are no good deals on any GPU's so if you really need one then you have no choice but to get one and pay asking price -
ppl like you were being smart since the release of these cards and were saying no deal to anything, we are here now 6 months later and the prices are only going one way
bit like those ppl that said property market bubble will burst after the Sydney Olympics…….
What are you on about? GPU prices are coming down. You can pick up a 6700 XT for $999 at any time these days. Scorptec had over a hundred Zotac 3070's delivered on Friday and you could buy for $1299.
I didn't say anything 6 months ago, I'm just commenting right now that it's not exactly a mindblowing deal. Quit trying to put words into other people's mouths and present evidence the price will go up if you're so sure of it.
@freefall101: He has the point, i bought 6800xt nitro+ se for $1499 in march, now it's $1599 - 1699
@superuser: Try $1800+ for 6800xt right now
@freefall101: Again how is 999 for 6700xt any indication that prices are coming down, in December you could buy 3070 for 899, and ppl were still here saying how it's not a deal, sure at some point you will all be right but right now a card at hand is a deal
I have the 10700K model from late last year with the 3070. I replaced the cpu cooler with a Noctua U9S. Been encoding x265 all day today at 100% load and it hasn't gone over 70C at any time and zero thermal throttling. Seems fine to me.
The Noctua cooler looks sort of similar to the cooler Dell puts on the K CPUs, sure it is better though, you had a problem with the supplied Dell cooler/
@Grok: While the dell cooler is better than a little intel one, it still leads to temps of 90C+ under full load, which then causes significant throttling.
There are no 3070's at $1300 any more. The last ones were dual-fan last week, the new price is closer to $1700.
Deliveries are coming through regularly, look at the oldest unfilled order dates for PLE - https://www.ple.com.au/RTX30-Buying-Information - most of them are in April at this point.
Estimated delivery date according to the Dell page is end of May. so it's not like you're getting it instantly.
@freefall101: Yeah that page lies. I ordered a card weeeeks ago and it’s saying last unfulfilled as last week.
@AaronR: Ugh, that's balls, I've been thinking I'll order soon from them since it seems like they get stock. I'll keep waiting for a cheap 6800 then.
I've got the 10th gen version of this machine. Its cooling just fine for me.
Even 62M/H bitcoin mining duing the day with the solar powering it, the card sits at about 56 DegC the processor is 34 Deg C.
Its a good machine. I'm happy with it.
It is interesting to see how prices have come so far with this particular RTX series models (a quick glance suggests the cheapest xps 8940 with RTX 3070 model has been $1929)
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-xps-8940
As to a review of this model:
https://youtu.be/hXmE8wESzFo
The one in the review is the 10th gen i7, OP's is 11th gen but I expect they're very similar
In the follow up review, he says the "K" variant CPUs get the upgraded CPU cooler which still throttles but is much better than the stock cooler.
So the 3060Ti model probably has the crappy stock cooler while the 3070 has the better cooler. To eliminate thermal issues you need the Noctura NH-U9S
Also it looks like you get 2x 8GB RAM so you won't get the single channel memory bottleneck like in the video
I am actually the person who told Dawid to replace the cooler with the Noctua U9S (pause the video at 11:14 to see). The stock cooler on the K throttles under sustained 100% load, but if you replace the cooler as I suggested it is fine.
Been encoding x265 all day and it stays at 100% clock and max of 70C.
And RE the screws being too long, I went back to look at my original comment to Dawid. I did say "16-20mm M3 screws should be fine, but I am using 16mm". In the later comment he paused, I said 20mm… whoops!
The 11th gen i7 runs hotter than the 10th gen i7 and actually performs worse. It was rushed to market.
Keep in mind that he says that the CPU is reaching 100 c (even with the better dell cooler) and throttling in only 19.5 c ambient temps!
That means it it would be well into meltdown land in summer temps in most of Australia.
Dawid originally had the non-K variant with the dinky little cooler like the stock intel one. Even the Dell K cooler is a million times better than that, but yes it throttles.
Buy a Noctua U9S if you get this. Get it direct from Noctua on Newegg for $70.
https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/noctua-nh-u9s/p/N82E1683…
I also replaced the rear fan with a Noctua NF-A9 PWM
I have the 10th Gen and the ram that came with it is Dual Channel…
Yes me too. I think Dawid receiving single channel was an anomaly rather than the norm.
No different model to the 3070 one
If you want the 3060 Ti model you're better off purchasing this deal and stacking with 5% Cashback - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619240
Better off purchasing eBay deal and stacking with $1500 worth (eBay transaction max limit) of Celebration Swap gift cards with 5% cashback at Shopback.
Dell: 1882 - (1882 / 11 * 10 / 100 * 5) = $1796.45
eBay: 1859 - (1500 / 100 * 5) = $1784
That and not worrying about Dell denying cashback
wait for EOFY, everything will go down
might not be the case this year due to: chip shortage aka not enough stock or price increases + more people purchase electrical gadgets aka sellers don’t have to lower their prices at all
…doh!
What year? 2025?
Does 8940 model come with only 5Gbps ports now? I know it's not that important but the 8920 (2017 model) I'm using has a 10Gbps Type-C port in the back.
Same as how they cut back from 6 audio ports to 3. Not inclined to spend extra for a separate sound card for something on their mobos.
Yeah to me that's a bit weird. Dell provided 10Gbps on 128/256G SSD and now 5Gbps on 1T SSD…
yeah that’s pretty lame really..
Still miss the "G5 Gaming Desktop Intel® Core™ i7-10700F 16GB RAM 1TB SSD RTX 3070" deal…
Looks to be back but price has increased to $1999. Link
To put it in perspective, this was a much better deal, would wait:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/613659
Wait until… when? I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the topic and I just can’t see price points improving until multiple (unlikely) significant events occur.
But, you do you.
If you need a PC now.. just buy the damn thing and don't look at prices again haha. Life's too short.
these guys agree with your sentiment @Merlict
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZFNPfdDUdo
So what are your findings after doing the readings?
That nobody has any idea if or when it will get “normal” again. My crystal ball says nothing magical is happening this year.
@AaronR: this is the new "normal"
@Homr: @Homr this is not the new normal, this is a perfect storm of events causing prices to rise beyond reasonable expectations and will eventually crash:
* Demand fueled by covid (disposable income from people staying home) and mining
* Shortage fueled by demand and factory capacity
* Greed fueled by mining and scalping
* Impatience because people can't wait for things anymore
If Nvidia can do a better job at getting the CMP cards into miners hands at prices that make them more appealing than the gaming cards then that will curtail the mining demand, but at the moment CMP30's are $100-200 more than the 1660S they are based on but really should be cheaper as they have no display connectivity therefore less features and lower usefulness after their mining life is over… If I could get CMP60 cards for about $1000 I'll happily sell my 3070's to gamers who want them (I don't have many, mostly have old AMD junk that only miners want) but at this rate I expect the CMP60 cards to be pushing $2k based on RTX 3060ti/3070 pricing!
Further curtailing the mining demand are changes coming in the Ethereum world that are going to reduce profitability from Eth mining from this current all time high which should cause people to step back a bit but who knows another coin may become just as profitable with GPU's.
If/when the mining boom crashes you will find an abundance of current gen RX and RTX cards hitting the used market which will lower the value of those on eBay and shops.
Can't do much about scalpers because they are greedy and feel like they deserve to make a buck off other people, what would be really cool is if scalpers opened trade accounts and bought at trade prices to resell at markup!.
Factory capacity is being dealt with but won't have an impact for at least 2 years.
And I don't think you can do anything about peoples impatience, this is now the society we live in.
@bircoe: ^^this guys economy 101
That's the older 10th gen Intel CPU model. It might eventually go to that price again
They don’t offer it for sale anymore on the main website. I guess they sold through their stock.
Might get lucky with one on the Outlet though!
There will be a flash crash for about a week when the ti launch, then price will go back to being absurd
This or the Alienware with a 3080 at $3200?
personally i'd just go with the 3070 setup, do you really need the 3080?
Do have the link for the Alienware?
The appeal of a pre-built is to buy an get a gpu in a reasonable timeframe, but the timeframe here could be up to June, so why the deal
Timeframe is over inflated. Ordered a prebuilt (the G5 desktop) and it was delivered in 2 weeks
Did you get a 3070 or 3080 version?
Cheers
3070, there's no 3080 version AFAIK
@FireRunner: Tough to decide buy the G5 with 3070 for $2k on eBay. Or buy the Alienware with 3080 for $2750 through dell.
G5 takes a week to arrive. Alienware 6 weeks.
@PlagueistheCheap: I reckon it'll arrive around 2 weeks either way. Dell is very conservative with estimates
@FireRunner: Chat quoted mid June for 3080 system. 3070 ready for dispatch
@PlagueistheCheap: Oh ok, must have been the influx on orders on ozbargain pushing it back. I recall seeing a comment in the 3080 deal saying around 2 week delivery from Dell chat earlier today
@FireRunner: Oh if it's that quick, I'd take it. I guess we do t really know
@PlagueistheCheap: Probably best to expect the worse and if it arrives sooner then that's a bonus
Maybe not too over-inflated. Mine still hasn't come after nearly 4 weeks.
Is it possible to buy these on the Dell site directly anywhere or are they only available on the eBay shopfront? I guess it doesn't matter but I'd prefer to get them direct from the official site; it seems weird to be buying them from eBay.
They're more expensive if you go through the Dell website.
The listings are from Dell's official eBay store so it's the same thing wether you order through eBay or their website.
Hey guys, still trying to decide my build. What would be better?
11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 11700KF (8-Core, 16MB Cache, 3.6GHz to 5GHz w/Intel® Turbo Boost Max)
or
10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 10700KF (8-Core, 16MB Cache, 3.8GHz to 5.1GHz w/Turbo Boost Max 3.0)
Really no practical performance difference, depends more on the accompanying hardware (e.g. z490 or z590 motherboard rather than b460, etc.)
If you can get one cheaper I would choose that.
As someone who works in a big business and hates laptop computers because they just sound like turbines when under heavy use 8 hours a day, these desktop PCs by Lenovo, Dell, HP etc. are a godsend. They're cheaper than the business laptops we usually get for our design engineers too! They literally ship it to us, IT installs it in a few mins and we're good to go. After our lease, Dell pick up the whole inventory and send us a new batch. The warranty is great too and Dell send us technicians within 1-2 days sometimes to service any issues.
^ this (the RTX 3070 with 11700K air cooled) or the techfast deal at $1998 (with the RTX 3070 albeit liquid cooled i7 10700F) at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/616803?
For Intel I like the bpctech deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619437
Hi all, I saw people selling these systems as brand-new with the GPU ripped out for cheap [under $1K]. Should I go for one? I'll have to grab a new GPU. But that's ok as I don't need much. A 1030 can be had for under $150. Are there any catches like Dell refusing warranty when GPU ripped out [unlikely] or system had been heavily running crypto processing so that the GPU fried?
Thanks in adv for your opinions.
Interesting, I'm after just a gpu but I don't know if the dell has much of a difference. What are of Vic are you in?
Under $1k? Where?
To answer your question, I’ve had success with Dell warranty after upgrading a GPU so I would imagine there would be no issue with buying one of these.
Mining only really puts a strain on the GPU so buying one of these systems from a miner would be fine.
Unless you can get it for around $500, you're better off buying this system yourself then reselling the GPU on eBay. You could get $1400 for the 3060 ti and $1500 for the 3070 easily.
Selling on eBay isn't without risk though so do some research on how to protect yourself against scams.
I just want the system. How much I can get for selling the 3070?
Don't know why your negged, I am thinking the same.
It's not in the box, perhaps 1k on market place?
His question was literally answered in the post above his, which is why he was negged.
Is this system or G5 better?
Not sure who negged but in short the XPS is better because:
- better CPU (has integrated graphics and newer)
- K series CPU has upgraded cooler (still not great but much than stock cooler)
- has HDD secondary storage
- Has optical drive and SD card slot
Has anyone ordered a system and received an ETA?
I ordered. No contact yet.
Will G5 get 11th Core soon?
I think the deal ends 30/04. I didn't pull the trigger, pat myself on the back for not buying a system that I may not have time to use.
In fact, it lasts till 5/5. So tempting…
I do not see myself gaming for the next 2 months. I do not think the GPU market is getting any better. Maybe the next Dell sales would be more expensive.
DELL hardware have 1 year warranty in the price, but if you buy cpu, ram, graphic, etc, there is 3 years warranty.
Does it have Killer Wireless?
Should I wait G5 11th?
eeeek.
I have serious FOMO. Should I get this deal or should I just wait till TechFast come up with something better? Which one of the two builds is better value?
Has anyone received an update for shipping or an ETA?
Yes my 3070 orders shipped today. Original expected ship date was late May.
My 3060Ti orders still have the Late May shipping ETA.
Thanks mate. When did you order?
The morning the deal was posted.
Hi guys, i received the PC today, i ordered the expensive version, Dell XPS 8940 Desktop 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700K RTX 3070 16GB RAM 1TB SSD
could anyone please advice what monitor will suit this RTX 3070, is it 4k? i am looking for any monitor that is 22inch and above , no budget in mind as long as i can get the best image out of this graphics card
I’m assuming you will be gaming? What do you mainly use the computer for?
Is the graphic card of this model limited the capability of crypto mining?
Confirmed with the rep, current order will still with non-LHR version.
I ordered the 3060 Ti system on the 29th of April and knew it was going to take a month due to GPU shortage affecting all system builders.
Happy when it was marked as shipped a week ago.
Unhappy to find out today it has not shipped and they just marked it as shipped in eBay and put in a 'fake' tracking number (they used my Dell order number instead of an actual tracking number).
Rep told me via eBay message perhaps 3 more weeks and offered to include a free gaming headset.
Trying to not be a Karen… but I chose them because they had an ETA of a few weeks and I wrongly assumed they had secured the parts needed.
Did you receive an email over the weekend saying your order has been delayed until late August?
I didn't, however via ebay messages they told me 3rd week of June. Very unhappy that they marked it as shipped via eBay when it hasn't even been built yet.
I'd have just listed the 3070 imo, much better deal that should last you longer
