I would spend a little more to get the fingerprint version IMO. If all you want is keypad and tags then this would be fantastic. Also keep in mind there is no smart integration with this, remote unlocking etc.
Hmmmm. Thanks. The remote unlocking is something I'm interested in… but at what price I guess.
Thanks for explaining that :)
Any idea about homekit support?
My $0.02 (obviously a very personal opinion),
No fingerprint…no go
I concur
…wait until you get older… these touch screens are not compatible (or co-operative) with older folks with drier skin. I was sure my Samsung phone hated me until someone pointed out to me what caused the issue.
I am looking getting this unit with the keypad (unless the keypad is also a capacitive touchscreen) as it should suit everyone is our household of all ages.yup, my minimum would be keypad, fingerprint, and phone NFC.
what if you have no finger
I've just replaced the last handle with a utec ul1. Still a fan of them; have the UL1 combo on front door, UL1 on the rear door and a bridge for them.
FOB, fingerprint, mobile shake or physical key access for the front door. same for the rear door, but without physical key.
Looks nice, but comments on reddit suggest it has problems https://www.reddit.com/r/UltraloqUL1/comments/aq48p7/should_…
How have you found reliability?
I had issues early on. My first one was bought during the crowdfunding stage quite a few years ago, so I had the full gamit of issues (fingerprint sensor not working in cold/if wet fingers etc), slow bluetooth + wifi connections etc.
The only thing I have now have issue with is the FOBs, they have a small round hole in them for the keyring and the tab around it breaks. You want to put the fob into a small leather pouch on your keys or bind it to your keyring.
Some clown tried to get in about 18months of owning it and had to replace the internal barrel (the barrel fails to lock like most exterior locks), but the actual lock device; handle etc survived the absolute bashing the clown gave the front door. It's still working and kicking around.
About 12 months after the release there were two firmware updates and since then I have literally not had a problem with the device. It took two firmware updates (bluetooth + lock firmware).
Here are some photos. The lock is about 5 years old now? Got it last property I was at, it came with me of course as it was a rental :).
https://ibb.co/Lt6tsp0 <- fob issue
https://ibb.co/pWKYc7S <- lock is from the crowdfunding purchase, damage to the handle that is visible was from the crowbar attempt on old property.I bought another one for the back door this week during the 10% flash ebay sale.
Yeah I looked at the ultraloq's often on sale on Amazon. The reviews seemed very hit or miss and was not willing to roll the dice on essentially, access in/out of your house.
Having installed a Eufy Smart Touch Wi-Fi, advice: pick your lock wisely as you don't want to have to patch/replace with a different product. I tried the Samsung and Lockly's before settling on the Eufy.
BTW, love the Eufy Smart Touch Wi-Fi,
They are $100 off on Amazon and JB Hi-Fi now, works flawlessly. Would definitely buy again.
Understand completely. Unfortunately for utec, they were crowdfunded; which means the first 12-18 months on the market, there were issues (not insurmountable, but issues all the same).
Nothing worse than thinking you can't get back into your own property.
I have a door with an aluminium frame and a mortise lock. Does anyone know if this can be made to fit?
You would have more luck with the mortise lock style right?
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/618840
Paying a lot more for it though.
Good point! I didn’t actually click the link because I was looking at the mortise lock version earlier.
Same question applies. I probably need a locksmith?
Yep.
The standard lock barrels are set the same in AU, EU and US - 65mm or 75mm offset with typically a 54mm bore hole and 24mm barrel. Making locks to fit standard door handles is fairly easy.
There are too many dimensions for the motrise lock variants; so you typically have to go the full hog there. There won't be a drop in replacement, so the aluminum frame will need to be modded (cut, extra support and strike plate covering or replaced).
I'd be looking at a locksmith and I typically give eveything a go myself :D.
The lock in this deal is a mortise lock.
Will need to measure it first at a minimum.
Professional installation is recommended for this lock. A door thickness of 40-60mm, a minimum lock stile of 115mm and a backset of 70mm.
What's the OZB consensus on this one? Looks pretty good…
