Yep been eyeing it for a while. Beat me to the post!

  • Called good guys they won't beat it

    • +9

Looks like they're not that good after all lol

    • then u should beat it

    • Does officeworks stock this?

  • Are they any good? I ve been wanting to install some cameras around the house, but I am completely clueless… thanks

    • +1

Pretty well rated and easy to DIY install. Installed the 2pack for the in-laws and quality is decent.

    • +35

i got a few around the house , but i have THIS model instead

The model SCA is selling is T8833CD2 , the model from Bunnings i linked above is E8841CD1 (plus)

Apparently the main differences are as follows

T8833CD2 (Small in size , mostly for indoor use)
      *180 day battery life
*16GB storage but expandable up to 128GB

E8841CD1 (Standard size outdoor CCTV camera)
      *365 battery life
      *16GB storage but not expandable

My overall view of the kit

      Positives
      *Free Local Storage
      *No monthly subscription fee
      *Wireless
      *Quality is decent (1080p/FHD)
      *App is amazing
*If someone pinches your camera they get nothing , footage is stored on the encrypted homebase , even if they steal the homebase too they wont be able to access footage
*Not even 0.5 second delay from when the camera triggers and the recording of the footage which means if set up properly you won't miss a thing

      Negatives
*Local storage not that big (15GB) but still holds a few weeks worth with moderate amount of triggers
*If you don't set it up properly you can drain more battery faster then advertised due to constant triggers , i only have to charge my camera's every 3 months or so but i have a decent amount of detections during the day. (but its very easy to hook up a powerbank and leave it , but consider the implications if you do)
*Internet connection dependant , if your internet is down so are your camera's. so it is helpful to have a backup (i.e router that is on NBN but if goes down reverts to 4G)

It was a little tricky to install them myself initially but it is really simple overall , they are a little premium in initial cost but they are worth it

If you don't like the white or want that stealth look you can also get these COVERS cheap and will help to protect it from the weather a little also , HERE are the covers for the other model

      • Do any of these have optical zoom lenses and auto pan/tilt for outdoor clarity?

        • +3

These are fixed unfortunately , no auto pan/tilt.

Both have a 140' viewing angle however and clarity is not really of issue unless the target is pretty far away , with the one from SCA listed they are more portable however.

Both camera's have infrared so when the lights go out you still have perfect vision.

The infrared is decent as well , i literally just opened my app and watched it for about 20 seconds…unless someone was fully hidden behind an object out of view of the camera i can still actually see them no matter how dark the area is in my FOV.

        Great review, thank you.

      • +12

Thanks for the review!! Great having people like you taking the time to make these sort of comments

      • What kind of mounts do they come with? Wonder how to mount them outside

        • +2

          @neonlight

the mounts are hard plastic and both are in cylindrical shape.

after you have investigated the size holes you needed and pre-drilled them , you insert the anchors and then drill the screws through the first mount into the anchors where it rests.

then the other mount simply twists onto the wall mount then onto the camera (don't make the mistake and use Loctite on the part that screws into the camera like i did the first time around)

my biggest tip is mark the holes after you have decided where you want the camera to go then take your time with the drilling , the plastic anchors that the kit comes with are not the best but don't fret if you stuff up you can cross-drill through it and it will still hold just fine as the camera's are light. i do recommend installing them in something solid if possible. when finally installed you would not be able to pull on the camera to rip it out of the hole and anyone who attempts to take it from its fixture will be treated to a very high DB alarm that will not stop going off until reset from the application.

The cameras are IP rated for weather resistance but i would try to place them under-cover if possible for multiple reasons and try to get a skin on it as well.

I would highly recommend not placing them too high up (somewhere out of reach but with a step ladder would allow you to reach comfortably) just to make your life easier when you need to recharge the system but some people install a bracket next to it and leave a power bank connected.

      • +1

Just a heads up you can use silicone tape or just duct tape for wrapping them

I've read theres no usb support on the Homebase 2 and you're stuck with only 16GB onboard. They've been sitting on the supposed feature for far too long.

      • Another negative I would mention is that they still haven't developed the software to allow geofencing AND scheduling to integrate together. Apparently it was meant to be added at the end of last year and now depending on who you ask they have never been working on it.
This makes these a pain in the butt if you want it to record movement at a set time (night time) and also when you are away from the home.

        • It would be good to have a geo-fencing feature but i have good neighbors so i don't have to worry so much about it and it does have the ability to set the sensitivity of the camera's to reduce constant triggers.

It also lets you configure settings based on profiles already pre-set "home / away / schedule / customize" , so you can have it set to super sensitive in the day and then switch to a customized or away option with reduced sensitivity.

      • I think the ones you bought from Bunnings have the anti-theft (alarm) protection but the ones posted here don't. That combined with the longer battery life has resulted in me waiting for a deal on the same cameras as you have.

        • @bean_counter

Can confirm , i just found that out yesterday myself

No anti-theft alarm but it does come with the Homebase 2 (non upgradeable storage) but still secure , you don't get anything if you steal the camera.

Testing out battery life but just based on the marketing it would be half the capacity to the ones from bunnings but conveniently half the size/weight.

I find them to be more discreet and easier to place stealthily.

          • @[Deactivated]:

you don't get anything if you steal the camera.

Except for maybe $100 if you sold it on gumtree? Or are these locked to the homebase?

            • +1

              @Ughhh: @ughhh

              locked to the homebase

literally only way to unlock it is to call up Anker and get them to re-register it to a new homebase but you would need to provision ownership information of the prior homebase it was attached to , minimum of a serial # with maybe even a request for original receipt. lets just say that its not as simple as pinching it and then trying to sync with a new homebase lol.

      • Thanks

If you're looking for battery powered cameras then these are a good option. But it depends what you're after. The main caveats of battery powered cameras is that in order to save power, they generally only record on person/motion detection. Sometimes the software lags and you end up missing the person detected with no way to go back.

Software lag isn't just for battery powered cameras. It happens on most wifi based cameras. But the difference with main line powered wifi cameras is that the main line powered ones can continuously record. So if you have software lag then you can go back through recorded footage to check what happened.

The other factor is cloud storage. I don't believe these have it so if your equipment is stolen then you lose the footage. If you have something like Ring or Wyze then you get the option of cloud storage. Event footage (person, sound or motion detection footage) is uploaded to the cloud so if your equipment is stolen then you usually have footage of them stealing the equipment (if it didn't lag at the time). With Wyze and Ring you also have storage on flash card on each camera while this stores it on USB connected to the base unit. That's a good and a bad thing. It's more equipment lying around, but with Eufy if people steal your cameras and not the base unit then you may no lose the recorded footage.

Btw, there's two different types of recorded footage. Event based and continuous. Wyze offers both with continuous recorded on the flash card/camera while the event based footage is stored on the cloud. Eufy offers only event based footage stored on the base unit, or USB drive connected to the base unit.

I should also point out that there could be some flaws in my information based on model. I work in commercial real estate/corporate electronic security and mainly know those systems. For home electronic CCTV I only know the stuff from installing systems in my own home and friends homes.

      • That s great stuff too. Thanks!

      • +1

Good info here. I have 5 Wyze cams and 1 Reo-link solar. Easily cost less than this Uefy deal including SD cards. The Wyze cams especially are just so simple and work pretty good. I only wish could get their v3 cam here at a reasonable price.

        • @xizor, Any recommendation what type of wyze cam that is good and where to source from (I can only find ebay or source from wyze us)

      • I bought wyze and absolutely useless since you have to pay for event based footage.

        • You only have to pay for person detection subscription. Motion detection event footage is free and if you put a flash card in then it works like an NVR.

      • +2

They need to steal the base, not just the cameras according to TB's above post, your recordings are encrypted on the homebase.

        • +1

Yep. With Eufy cameras they have to steal the base. With Wyze they only have to steal the camera. That's the downside. The upside is that detection footage is uploaded to the cloud (not full footage, that's on the camera)

  • I've been eyeing off the version from Aliexpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001391942372.html?) - but am worried about warranty. Thoughts about this or the one from Aliexpress?

I realise it's two vs 4 cameras, but it is also the latest edition (presumably) with "double" the battery capacity.

    • Don't buy from AliExpress. I had to put in two warranty claims for those exact cameras less than a year after purchase. The lens on two out of three cameras cracked during winter. Warranty sent replacement cameras

      • I expect these are from the same factory and cracking would persist across their entire range? On the positive side, you were given replacements. Was that through Aliexpress, or local Anker, and was it easy to get replacement?

        • I got replacement from a local Australian retailer. What I meant to say is, warranty issues would be harder to resolve through AliExpress not just because you are dealing with an overseas seller, but also Anker does not have a local warranty centre in Australia. Anker does not deal with buyers directly and push you to put in warranty claim directly through the seller. This means you would have to ship them back to AliExpress, then the seller would need to put in a claim with Anker and wait for replacement cameras to arrive before shipping them back. That would be a major PIA

2 out of 3 camera lens cracked, whilst one in addition stopped turning on. Even when charging there was no indication it was charging.

Go through local retailer is my recommendation

  • Are these the latest generation release recently?

    • -2

      No

    • +1

I believe they are , if i am viewing the advertisement on aliexpress correctly they are 2K (Quad HD/QHD).

They are not currently offered for sale in AUS that i am aware of at this moment in time. only 1080p quality for the camera's sold here (currently) except the Doorbell which is 2K.

    • +1

The ones I posted from Aliexpress are supposedly the latest. I don't like their numbering system!

  • Cracking deal, I bought this via the Good Guys Commercial for $600 delivered. Great cameras for their price. Not the best night vision but easy to use, battery lasts long, and works well with the phone app.

  • +2

Has anyone actually had any luck after passing on footage to police in Australia after a break-in? I've heard it's pretty useless and our police/courts are generally useless even with identifiable video evidence.

    • +3

They don’t do anything unless you are someone important or some is killed and caught on the camera.

      • +3

Had an experience with vandalism (car keyed) with clear footage, their license plate as well as someone willing to provide their full address, name and photo of vandal and police never followed up with the case. Handed to them on a platter but just told myself they have better things to do. Or something like that.

        • My experience was much worse than yours. Saw a crazy driver tried to run over people in front of a shop lot parking area. Called the 000 to ask for help and was told if no one was dead yet they would not come to stop the driver.

    • -4

I work with police all the time with video footage. They love it. The main issue is that people won't share it with them.

    • +1

      @goingDHfast

If someone threw a brick to my car , i would have the footage in less then 2 mins

Download the video from the app straight to phone , connect phone to PC , drag and drop to usb and give to police if required.

Having some evidence is better then no evidence and the way i see it is , if you can prove someone else did something it still works in your favor no matter the issue at hand. whether police/courts do anything from that point is contextual based on circumstance

But the way i see it is , prevention is better then cure. if having security camera's deter someone from doing something stupid its paid for itself , if it still has not deterred them then they have just incriminated themselves on camera.

They are a benefit not just against common things like "theft , malicious damage , vandalism etc" but are a huge aide in confrontations , neighborhood disputes and also general increase in the overall safety of your neighborhood (ever heard of neighborhood watch?)

    • +6

We had a bloke break into several cars on my street. He didn’t touch ours (sensor light scared him I think) but we had footage of him walking past. We handed it in to the cops despite nothing illegal happening in the footage.

Fast forward a few weeks and the cops called me in to sign a statement regarding the footage. Turns out the bloke got busted using ID he stole from one of the cars, and my footage placed him in the area at the time it was stolen. Cops said it was ‘key’ evidence and that the guy was a real scumbag and would likely be put away for 6-7 years.

There was obviously more to the story that I’m not aware of, and definitely other evidence, but I’m glad my footage was helpful to the cops.

  • Thanks op! Was eyeing on this for a long time. I got the 2 camera last time it was at 30% from SCA. have been absolutely impressed. Got 4 more now to cover all sides of the house 👍

  • I have a $700 gift card from Harvey Norman. I wonder if anyone knows if HN sell they same item and would price match. TIA

    • +2

Why waste time asking questions here when Google is just around the corner

  • As mentioned on an ebay review search 'Eufy camera offline'

  • Thanks OP!

I wanted to get more Eufy cameras and this ended up being a great deal.

I already had a Eufy 4x 2c from a previous deal (not as good as this one!) and now I can put a Eufy base station at each end of the house to get better wifi coverage and enough cameras to cover areas all for under $1200!

  • It's worth noting that some of the Eufy gear shows up at Club prices but not every single one.

    Things I ended up getting:

    • silicone cases (for a couple of locations that are more weather exposed)
    • door entry detectors - I'd love to get a entry door camera but honestly having a 2C near the front door is probably good enough..
  • Signed up for club but still getting full price. 😢

  • anyone got this to work? checkout says club discount applied but still showing as $679

    • Yes worked for me eventually - I had trouble initially but hadn't clicked on the activation link which was emailed through.

    • I forgot to log in when I was at checkout. Still debating to buy or not bit concern about the Australian weather for something that someone pointed out is less resistant compared to the "plus" version.

  • Can I use these camera to record all the times?
Like to record inside the shop, is it possible and how? thanks

    • -4

If your shop has wifi connection and then no problem.

      • -1

Yes, I have but I'm not not sure how the camera is working.
Only record when there is a movement or able to record all the times.

I can see the live stream feature but I'm not sure if it is recorded.

    • +2

No these are meant to be used for motion activated recording you want something that uses power over ethernet

  • Can you hook up the main unit to a monitor?

  • Don't forget your cashback options.

  • Does this need a wifi internet connection to work?

  • How good are these wireless systems now vs wired ? I missed the chance tonore wire house built so have been looking at WiFi

    • +2

I've tested these against the wired indoor cams and have found it far easier and more reliable to have indoor cams placed indoors facing out (disabling nightvision due to reflectivity off glass etc), the indoor cams use pixel/algorithm based on image detection with some buffer (like motion detection function in dash cams would have a buffer of 3s or so to catch more of the event). Also less to worry about someome picking it off mounts if in arms reach.

The PIR sensor tends to go crazy during the noon / arvo sun and motion activity zones a little iffy

  • I'm curious to know how many punters are already drop shipping these on ebay??

  • The Floodlight camera was on sale for $199 yesterday, today its not on sale at $299 but with 30% off its now $209… Should have bought yesterday… Its $199 at Bunnings.

    • I was going to get it but then i realized it needs to be hard-wired in via a licensed electrician.

If it was completely wireless i would be all over it , i use solar lights in the mean time which do a decent enough of a job.

    • +2
  • -1

Damn I saw the image and thought they were some 4.1 channel speakers on sale. lol.

  • Got one, thanks.

  • Got one as well. 7% cashback at Shopback, around $30 cashback

    • $25 cap on Shopback.

      • Yes, you’re right, still nice!

    • Did your ShopBack go thru at 7%

Recd my ShopBack notification shortly after and I only got 1.5%

  • +1

    enhance!

  • nice I plumbed that special for an addition $500 in cameras and home security…

also, I feel i just need to comment on how good that website is to use… matches parts to your car model, easy to use webstore.. from beginning to end its almost perfect!

    • The website chose an incorrect battery for my car model and and also said they would fit it for me, went down there and they said actually it's in your boot so we can't…..despite the website impressively telling me they could.

  • Thanks, ordered.

  • If any of you were to go a POE system. Which one would you go with that is an equivalent or better to this at a similar price point?

  • Not the greatest video quality especially at night. Sugget getting Eufy 2C Pro (2K) or Eufycam 2 Pro (2k).

  • Picked up for 440.37 using the smart spending app 👌

    • How do you get access to smart spending?

      • I have an account through work. Not sure you can just sign up.

  • Just picked up my order… only slightly annoyed the power adapter is a euro two round pin, instead of an aussie plug eyeroll

    • Serious? I'd go and swap it for an Aussie adapter. I got the doorbell yesterday and it came with Aussie so guessing they got a wrong shipment somewhere.

    • Got Europe and AU in the same box but the AU doesn't have an earth.

  • Can you use the Google home hub to view live stream?

    • You can but the delay is too slow to be of much use.

  • Went to good guys instore they beat it. Used cba offer 😃

    • Great idea! Might try do the same. Any chance of posting the receipt?

  • Damn it, limit of 3 gift cards per transaction, I bought 5x $100 at 10% instead of 1x $xxx for 8% off.
Plus +1.25% charge at Entertainment website.
Signed up for membership without using gift card neither.
Missed out on 7% cashback ($25 max) at SB.
Now I have unused 2x $100 gift card.

I'll walk myself out, will slam door behind me :'(

    • Cash rewards was also boost for 2 days before Saturday trading for 5% which is $24.46.

  • is it home base 2? can it connect to the Eufy wireless ring doorbell?
