BitDefender Internet Security 2012 - Free for 1 Year

530

Whilst logging into StGeorge Internet Banking today, I noticed that they're (Westpac/subsidiaries like BankSA etc) partnering with Bitdefender to give anyway their software for 1 year.

The StGeorge Information is @ http://www.stgeorge.com.au/online-services/security-centre/p… and advises to log into Internet Banking to obtain the link.

Naturally, I've pulled out the link for all to use!

Enjoy!

  • Second link doesn't work, just redirects you to the main bitdefender home page

  • dupe post

    • Where is the original?

      • +1

no i mean my comment post is a dupe, it came up twice for some reason.

        • Oh, sorry :)

  • Updated. Can you check again?

    • works now. Thanks

      • Forgot the "?pid=8239234" and the end of the partner link otherwise no workee :-)

  • i saw this when i logged in today

  • is internet security including with antivirus?

  • Just got the email confirmation.
You are about to receive iron protection under the sign of the Dacian W

If that is your name you might want to remove the link otherwise you will have a lot of people signing up under your account

    • Certainly isn't my name - obviously a marketing staff member at Westpac or a staff member @ bitdefender. Haha :-)

    • +2

dacian wolf is some bitfender marketing bs:

"Half wolf and half dragon, the Dacian Wolf inspired confidence among ancient troops that carried it into battle by striking fear into enemies."

      • must be some Romanian legend!
Just noticed that Bitdefender is from Romania.

    • I dont think it's anyone's name. It literally is referring to some kind of wolf, presumably from the logo

  • I have been looking to update my internet security as my bitdefender 2011 expired. However, reviews of Bitdefender 2012 have been less than flattering. However, it is free.

    • +3

try Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Its the best one out there and its free.

  • thanks

the avast free subscription will expire in april

this will be a nice replacement

  • Thank, i've used bitdefender for years now and it's awesome. was just about to go get a new subscription too

  • does anyone know if this is for one pc or more?

  • thanks :)

What are you going to do after the 1 free year? Too much hassle to change anti-virus, not worth it!

    • how hard is it to change antivirus
just uninstall it and look for another

maybe there will be other free offers

    • -2

You should be changing your anti-virus after a year anyway

  • +4

MSE is free indefinitely, get that instead.

    Great find ambient!

i've always used Free Avast / AVG etc. Had no problems, and generally are much kinder on your system resources than 'professional' packages. anyone care to comment?

    • ignorance is bliss?

    • I use Avast as antivirus, and Comodo Internet Security as firewall. Both are freeware and meant to be just as good as your paid products. However as powerful as Comodo is, I wouldn't recommend it for computer novices who are after "install and forget" solutions - which is why I wouldn't install it on my mum's PC for example. BitDefender may be a good alternative in this case - can anyone comment on the ease of use?

      • All anti malware software should be "install and forget" if you really want to lock down your computer, have the time and know your stuff you only need to do the following:

        • Create only a select white list in your firewall
        • Keep all software patched and up to date

        Done!

This is fantastic - thanks for sharing this deal

Did anyone have any issues with this app? I d/l and installed. My computer started to freeze up and all my citrix session to work stop working. Im having a hard time even uninstalling it.

I'm not saying its a bad product. This could be just an isolated incident with my pc. But wanted to find out if anyone else had any issues after installing it.

    • I've not had any problems on 2 pcs

    • This could be just an isolated incident with my pc

      No.

Again, this is very (very!) common with big name "antivirus" software.

Even ones that don't cripple your computer usually slow it down, without providing much protection against the threats you might actually run into. Stick to a (permanently) free, reputable one like Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security…

      See

      http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/02/choosing-anti-anti-…

      and

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antivirus_software#Issues_of_co…

(Can't believe my comments are being downvoted by the clueless - this is pretty common knowledge with IT professionals. The amount of upvotes this deal has is pretty alarming, people will actually install this thing!)

That first article is from 2007. A lots changed since then. Look at Norton for example - its no where near the resource hog now compared to back then.

Even ones that don't cripple your computer usually slow it down, without providing much protection against the threats you might actually run into.

These comments are too general. Obviously any software that monitors your system is going to slow it down to an extent. I see no harm in people taking advantage of this deal and see for themselves how it performs on their systems.

Although, I partially agree of free alternatives being just as good than paid versions. Two alternatives better than MSE in my opinion are Avast and Avira.

surely not a one year free trial, and specifically speaking provide a link to 12 month free trial version of Bitdefender with same level of features and you're neg is valid.

Also antivirus software generally sucks. is not a valid reason to neg.

      • -2

How are facts about the crappiness of a product in a deal somehow not a suitable reason for a neg?

    • +1

      couldn't agree more.

  • -4

I had problems too! It froze my computer so I uninstalled it and went back to AVG which I have never had a problems with.

  • Did anyone notice the annoying bitdefender "traffic light" in all browsers? It is some cross-browser add-on to restrict malware related pages in a search. It slows down the results!
Looking for a way to just remove these lights on a highway!

  • ive got mc afee so i was wondering which one is better since i cant have both.

Some benchmark on antivirus softwares. Bitdefender holds the cup :)

  • +1 for it being free…. but I tried the BD 2012 version a few months back & got rid of it as I didnt like not being able to control which files were/were not deleted.

Have a look at the discussion here at the BD forum
    BD forum auto del

If you do choose to use it, have a look through the General forum at BD & see what kinds of problems others are experiencing

Im not saying its a bad product, just that it needs a few glitches ironed out

You are about to receive iron protection under the sign of the Dacian Wolf.
Thank you and congratulations on joining the millions of users with full protection from Bitdefender Internet Security. You are now ready to witness the Bitdefender philosophy in action. By thinking outside the box, constantly striving to raise the bar, and cutting-edge development, Bitdefender now stands ready and AWAKE as a silent defender for you and your system.

After downloading, please begin exploring the features including anti-phishing, firewall and other protection offered by Bitdefender Internet Security – a sublime alloy of strength, intelligence and willpower under the ancient symbol of the Dacian Wolf.

    Wow, Bitdefender – dramatic much? After all, it's only anti-virus software… :P

On another note, I hate it when software companies provide "online" installers where you have to download an installer just to download another installer. JUST LET US DOWNLOAD THE BLOODY THING! Oddly enough, this never occurs on OS X. (Case in point: http://cl.ly/DElK)

  • How long did the product key take to come through for people?

    • +2

I still haven't got mine from 8 hours ago

      • same with me… im still waiting

    • Mine took less than an hour yesterday morning.

I used my e-mail address associated with my banking account. I would've thought you'd have to for verification that you were a Westpac/etc customer.

      • Not a westpac member, got it instantly

      • still no word after 48 hours

    • +2

Ahh, just had to do it again. Worked like a charm this time though and came through instantly.

      • yup appears to be working now!

  • +1

FYI, some background info from ZDNet >> Westpac ditches PC Tools for BitDefender

    http://www.zdnet.com.au/westpac-ditches-pc-tools-for-bitdefe…

  • Still waiting for mine…

  • Worth pointing out they have the Mac one too.

  • I tried this and all I get in my "account" is that I have an evaluation licence

  • +1

If you really like Bitdefender I found this - a 'lifetime' license for $58.02 for Antivirus plus. Their definition of lifetime is 5 years.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/2012/lifetime/av/?cid=na_us_2012_…

Doesn't have anti spam, firewall, or parental control.

  • Can I install on 3 pc?

  • Has anyone got the link for direct download from westpac or can someone please upload the file. Thanks

  • +1

    Its still working :)
