  • Good price for the 32in. This or wait for the Xiaomi to hit $420 again?

    • +4

It really depends. If I were in the market for a 144hz 1440p, I'd lean towards the Samsung brand.
It should be a similar if not the same panel, but even though I have a lot of xiaomi products, I feel this one would be slightly better quality as well as the brand security feeling.
It's $30 difference and you don't have to wait too.

Buuuut, looks like this one isnt ultrawide, so it depends if you want traditional aspect ratio or a flatter one.

Good luck on your decision :)

        • Even before I'd tried Xiaomi products, I'd decided Samsung TVs are crap due to their quality control (or lack thereof)

        • +11

This comment comparing these two utlrawides is completely divorced from reality. The Xiaomi is a much slower panel.

Xiaomi software and firmware release cadences are also typically lacking in all of their products. I love what the company generally tries to do (agreed upon and modest profit margins), but let's not rewrite history.

        • lol

Bit of a fanboy, are we?

      • Tough decision as at the moment I got the S2721D from dell.

          Tifa is my favorite.

    • +1

Do you mean the 34"? Because ultrawide v ultrawide, it's worth extra money.

    • The 27 and 32 inch monitors don't look ultrawide. The resolution says 2560x1440 for each

So if that's why you're looking at the Xiaomi, you'd want to compare it to the 34"

    • Well the 32 inch here is "only" 2560x1440 rather than 3440x1440. So not only is it 2 inch smaller, its resolution is less. Plus it costs the same (or more if you are saying $420 for xiaomi)
Cant say there's any point it wins on imo. Well a $50 steam gift card i suppose.
Xiaomi also has a fantastic stand if you aren't VESA mounting your monitor

    Wow 2 inches more and $200 more…

    • +14

It's a 34 inch ultrawide i can tell you the best 2 inches you can get!

      • +23

that's not what his wife says

  • Do you have one? Considering grabbing this in the hope that I can get a 3080 later this year…

    • if you can wait long enough…..

    • +1

I ordered a 3080 for a buddy about a month and a half ago and it only took a week and a half to arrive.

Don't let your dreams be dreams.

      • My sister's boyfriend ordered an MSI 3080 last November. Still no closer to getting it a fortnight ago he got an MSI 3070 instead. 3080 stock doesn't really exist at the moment anywhere, best bet is 3060 (the ti stock has vanished), 3070 or 3090.

With the price jacking of 3080s from ~$1300 to ~$2k and 3090s from ~$1800 to ~$2800 that leaves only the 3070 priced around what the 3080 used to be at ~$1300 as somewhat affordable high end card.

    • if you are going with 3080 why buy a budget monitor ? get a g7 at least

      • +1

no money left after paying stupid $$$ for 3080 just go secure one probably :)

  • Hi guys
Can someone plz help me decide on g5 32 vs dell s3221qs 32" from early deal. Cant spot the difference. Purpose is ocassional gaming and uni studies.

    Thanks

    • +1

This is 1440p and 144hz. Dell is 4k and 60hz. Personally I don't see the point of 32 inch if you don't get 4k with it, though I will miss the extra frame rate (I ordered the Dell). I need the ppi for work from home.

      • +1

Thanks man i was thinking the same to go with dell. Since i am not a hardcore gamer i probably wont notice the difference anyway.

      • if you are just a casual gamer then sure, 60hz is for you, but if you are a bit serious and like your fps or fast paced games then you need 144hz min

      • High frame rate (165Hz) and the contrast (3000:1) is pretty good.
would like a bit more realestate but two of the buggers should fix that, haven't set up the second yet (S3220DGF).

I did not need to see this deal, I don't need another monitor i don't…. (fighting impulse)

  • Has anyone compared the xiaomi ultrawide to this? It'd be for sim racing

    • +2

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10272538/redir

The Xiaomi is a lot slower, and it will be most notably with dark scenes, or high-contrast content, which a racing sim would fall under the umbrella of at times.

Personally, I'd pocket your $700 and save for either a 48" LG C1 OLED (likely sub $1500 in 4-6 months), but hopefully a company will use LG Display's 42" 4k120Hz OLED panel in a product this year (it just won't be LG for a TV).

There's also curved and smaller OLED monitors on the way from LG Display, but I have no information about what products those will appear in, and that probably won't happen until late 2021, early 2022. I think 120Hz would be a safe guess, though. Keep in mind the newly announced LG OLED professional monitors do not use LG panels (they use JOLED) and are not reflective of pricing for a consumer-grade monitor.

Sorry for the super quick run through, but seemed relevant to your use case. :P

  • Not so good brightness

    Brightness (Typical)
    250

    Brightness (Min)
    200

    • SDR content is mastered for 100-120 nits, and unless you're sitting outside, you're not going to want more than 250 nits.

HDR content is a joke on anything below 300 dimming zones, and that would have clear halos in 90% of gaming scenarios. You're not buying budget monitors for HDR features beyond wide colour gamut (and only as a nice thing to have should monitor calibration and game devs get a lot better with such things).

Avoid the Samsung G5 27 and 32 inch (16:9 QHD) models: they are barely above the grade of the JG50/52/54/56 models and what you see from Kogan.

The Samsung 34" G5 WQHD, however, is an upgrade amongst the vast majority of VA ultrawides, but nothing like the G9 in terms of response times.

    • Avoid the Samsung G5 27

Damn, in the market for a 1440/144hz 27", what do you suggest? This seemed like a reasonable deal!

      • +1

Right now? The Dell deal, but I still wouldn't bother because how IPS is slow doesn't really show up in any current testing on it (slow to return to black). I'm expecting QHD 240Hz models to start getting significantly cheaper, including the Samsung G7. Sadly the QHD 144Hz TN market is vanishing, and it's honestly a really dumb decision (do not go for the Acer model that is available, it's bad).

If you want the Dell deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/613693

    • Thanks. Any thoughts on other 32" QHD monitors sub $600? Need 3 for sim racing :-)

  • They've also got the 34" AOC CU34G2X for $575, which is an awesome price for an ultrawide (better than the Xiaomi, but uses the same panel)

    • futu has as well for $566.10 ( ebay plus)

      • Hmm, I wonder if the G5 is worth the extra $100…

  • +1

What's the colour bleed like on these? I got a G27QC and it's terrible. Thinking of switching.

  • g7 is the best

  • What is a good monitor for 3060? Picking one up tomorrow for $900

  • This is a VA panel with 1ms MPRT, if you play FPS you WILL get a lot of ghosting. The g7 and g9 are QLED from my knowledge in which they are able to have a 1ms g2g response time making them crisp monitors. Although VA technology has come a long way, it's still best to stick to TN & preferably fast IPS panels(Assuming that this monitor is for FPS games.
