Does anyone actually buy JW Blue because they like the taste?

    • +2

You probably don't know how to appreciate it.
I had it last night for my daughter's birthday and it was fantastic.
Actually enjoyed it more than the Hennessy XO.

      • How would you recommend drinking it to appreciate it?

        • +10

          I drink it neat.
It was so smooth with no alcohol burn.

          • @Tg147: oh I like that..

          • +8

@Tg147: there are so many better scotches for significantly less. JW Blue is a marketing ploy

            • @blackfrancis75: I'm usually a cognac drinker.
              What do you recommend?

              • @Tg147: Hey TG I'm getting into cognac in a big way. What are some entry level (not too exy) ones you would recommend? What about just brandy, should I go for some of those?

                • -1

@gakko: Sorry, I can't really help you cause I only drink the following.
                  Martell XO
                  Martell Cordon Bleu
                  Hennessy XO

Martell XO would have to be my absolute favourite.

                • @gakko: Depending on what you mean by "not too exy", I'd suggest giving Croizet VSOP or Courvoisier VSOP a try. Wont be as smooth as Tg147's recommendations but I quite like Croizet (although obviously YMMV).

If you want to go just brandy there is always St Agnes, an Australian maker of brandy who have been in the business for about 100 years. Their VSOP is about 40 bucks at Dan's, the XO is about $100.

                  https://stagnesdistillery.com.au/

                  • @Shleepy: Thanks TG, thanks shleepy. Awesome suggestions and will look into them.

Tempted to try the Meukow too just because the bottle is amazing.

                • @gakko: What are some good, well priced Cognacs? I like Hennessey XO but its so $$$.

                  • @dexx: I got a hennesy VS for 63 in an ebay sale so I'll start there. I realise it's not top tier but looking forward to it.

              • @Tg147: Try the Aberlour 16 year old double cask
Or the easier to find A'Bunadh

            • @blackfrancis75: I tried Hennessy VSOP. It was a bit disappointing. Not as smooth as i expected.

    • +8

Don't hate on it, blue actually is nice. It's overpriced, sure, but don't trash talk it for its taste.

      • +2

I enjoy it if someone else is paying

    • +1

      Yes, I love it.

    • +1

I'm personally not a fan. So that coupled with the price means I never buy them.

But I can see why others would like it, it's very smooth.

I do like Johnny double black and green though. I still have an old school bottle of green that I'm savouring.

Got two bottles back in the day on this deal!
This is the all time low, if only it happened again :(

That would be 25 Years old now, if you haven't opened it yet :)

      • +4

Whisky doesn't age in the bottle and blue label doesn't have an age statement.

      • +7

Yeah, but they don't 'age' in the bottle. Once they're out of the barrel, any change over time is insignificant. Very different to wine.

    • Ah, the old code stacking days @ woolies! Was so good back then :D

Best I got back then was a Chivas Regal 18 for $40 delivered

  • +9

Got in to see haters say it's an overpriced overrated drops and neg the deal.

    • +1

More likely you aren't going to get the cashback based on SB tracking on liquor deals !

  • +2

JW Blue is quite nice, but yes the price is too expensive for what it is. I find the green on sale is the best (yes i know these are blends)

    • +2

Nothing wrong with a good blend. I prefer some to single malt.

    • Green is an interesting taste but Blue is so smooth and perfect.

  • Will this work with the cashback?

  • +1

How do you get this deal? Signed up a new account and doesn't apply any discount to the listed price

  • +1

Great drink, still out of my sadly very tight budget good luck to anyone who gets on this, it is a great deal

  • Blue is a very nice whisky, but problem is it's so expensive and people assume you're a twit without a sense of money if you drink it.

  • I don't get JWBL. Sure, it tastes nice but when you can get better single malts for much less, I don't see the point

    • Such as?

  • +2

I normally hate whiskey. But I had an opportunity on a flight to try out the famed Blue Label for once. And since it was free, why not?

I hated every damn sip of it. But wasn't gonna let it go to waste.

  • Just a heads up, shopback tracked $8.57, current shopback discount showing 20% in my account so just be aware

    • +1

It's a 'glitch' from shopback's end, all you need to do is get in touch with their online chat and they'll fix this for you pretty quickly. I just went through it with them and got my full cashback now.

      Cheers

  • This is a great deal, even as a gift, given how rare these go on discounts these days. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Boozebud - check they dont send you Johhny Red. I ordered the Aberlour scotch and they sent me some cheap scotch that sounded like Aberlour but something completely different (and half the price). Had to do an ebay case and ebay had to step in and refund as Boozebud wouldnt refund.

How are you getting to $174.99 before Shopback? Best I can get to is $196.99 using the 25OFFNOW code. You can't stack both coupons….

    • Same here!

    • It only applies to new accounts from what I understand. Are you a return buyer?

      • No, I'm a new customer. I can load either the new customer voucher, the 25OFFNOW voucher or the referral voucher, but only one of them. Doesn't seem to be any way to get one of these discounts outside of applying a voucher

        • +2

The coupon should reduce the price by $25 from $199.99 to $174.99 before any cashbacks

        • Yeah my experience is the same as Dino’s. I bought a bottle at $174. The cash back also tracked for $35. Hope you get it to work for you.

    • Do U see a different listprice or the code is not reducing the price by $25?

    • Same here. Original price $221.55 less $25 = $196.55

      • Yep, this. $221.55 before any coupons

imagine the quality whiskey you could get it you spent the money on something else…

    • To each their own I guess. For me it’s a “bucket list” type thing. Had always fancied myself “making it” as a teen sipping from a blue label. So this is for the younger me. Next is a Macallan 25!

      • yeah fair enough. the macallan 25, now that's goals!

    • Imagine actually saying what that something else rather leaving people to guess what it is. Just saying.

  • anyway to get this if you're an existing customer?
