Previous Deal: Sold out
Now higher at $70
Still got one unopened from the $65 deal, tempted to grab another for a gift.
Yeah I liked this - for $65 is was good. 16 years, yeah nah
I agree pretty average
Why 'pretty' ?
Nothing interesting about this, better off spending a few bucks more getting a 10yo/12yo something else
One of the many who bought a couple of bottles at $65 in December given the age, the price and the reviews. Big mistake.
Bordering on rough and the elements don't come together in the way a 16yo aged malt should - even when diluted with a dash of water in an attempt to bring out the taste.
If it was a blind tasting and you didn't know it was a 16yo I reckon most scotch drinkers would be very disappointed with this at the $65 price point. I know I was.
YMMV. But I won't be touching this stuff again at any price. Proof that the age statement means nothing if the product itself and how its stored isn't up to std.
$70 gets you a lot of decent blends that kill this in terms of smoothness and complexity or spend a few more bucks to get a single malt to savour would be my suggestion.
I opened a bottle last week and had the exact same thoughts.
Yeah agree. I gave mine away. Not worth it even at $65. I’d rather JW Black
This one was very bland, too smooth, has no distinct flavour.
cardhu 12 is on special on amazon for $61 and is an alright speyside whisky.
Speyside malts get a bad rap for being bland but with the few I've tried (apart from Dailuaine 16) there's a subtlety that hides the complexity which that dash of water brings out. I like them a lot and they're guaranteed not to offend. The sales of Glenlivet and Glenfiddich make that clear.
Cardhu12 is more than alright at that price imho. Good find.
yeah Cardhu is a smoother, much better option.
some people love their smoke bomb (and I do too), but sometimes you just appreciate that subtle smooth lingering flavour that Speyside offers.
Call me whisky heathen if you like but it's a nice drop with coke. Disappointing neat.
Heathen.
Should be Pepsi Max.
I ended up using it as a whisky sour base.
It was actually diet coke. The citric acid seems to work with this Whisky
Lah-di-dah, Pepsi Max!
There's a cost of living crisis going on, mate. LA Ice Cola it is!
My former mate once told me that the right way to enjoy whiskey was whatever way you liked it drinking it.
He said this while pouring creaming soda into a glass of Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Fool me once…
No-name whisky with a 16 yr tag, regret giving this as a gift from the last sale. Wait for a green label sale.
AS the hot weather starts to hit home I highly recommend some of the Japanese Whiskies. A lighter style with a smoothness that still has some complexity and goes down really well on a hot night.
My favourites are the Suntory Toki or The Tattori Matsui that can be had for around the $80/bottle mark at the usual places
The distillery is one of Diageo's workhorse distilleries. There are a lot of distilleries that don't put out any whisky under their own name, and instead under independent bottlers, such as SMWS, The Whisky Jury, Signatory etc. These are often some of the best whiskies. So, just saying, just because you don't know the distillery, doesn't mean it doesn't have legacy.
Also, all the hate this whisky is getting - it is still a very decent, sherry-forward dram. For $65/70?! You wouldn't get anything nearly this good for less than $95 I'd say. It's a fine gift.
I opened my first bottle of this from the last sale last night. This doesn't seem like a 16 year old single malt. Very strong alcohol taste, not smooth at all. Even at $65, I feel there's better options out there.
The only people buying this rubbish is people on this site. Don't buy whiskey based on specs.
I drank this. Very average for 16 year old. I would say $70 is about the price it should be.
