  • Good deal for a great soundbar!
Wish it had Google Assistant built in though

    • Just plug in a Google TV

How would this compare to a 5.1 system based on something like this? https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_…

    • +6

You can get a much better surround sound experience from a 5.1.2 system with an entry level receiver for the same price. But it's not a fair comparison becuz it's a much simpler and clean set up with sound bar and it's wireless satellite/subwoofer.

      • Thankyou.

I grabbed this soundbar and am going to compare it against an existing 5.1 system, thankfully Samsung has a 60 day money back guarantee so if I don't like it I will return it. Speakers for the 5.1 system have had it so if the soundbar is no good, will look at replacing speakers instead.

          Thanks everyone for your input.

          • @bdl: Hey bdl,

I'm considering this sound bar vs getting an entry level receiver and a 5.1 setup. How did you go with the sound bar?

    • +3

Depends on what speakers you use. The speakers on soundbars are a Int, which means the sub has to deal with the midrange which ruins the impact of most things, mostly music. You will always get better results out of bigger, independent speakers over convenient tiny wireless ones.

    • Any 5.1 speakers with that receiver the cost will be around 3-4K. I had plan for sonos 3050i or Yamaha YHT-4A/5A with RX-V6A receiver that creates virtual Dolby atmos effect. But, it was too expensive and way bigger for my room. I got samsung HW-Q950 at HN after pricematch with VP and then using HN gift card for $1250. And I can say it is an amazing soundbar. I had no issue connecting that to LG OLED TV.

      • Agree, used to have all that AV stuff, too much cabling, wiring and goes out of date (as far as the A/V receiver etc , good speakers should last a long time though). just get a nice headphone setup to accompany it for your pc as source :). I'm running a soundbar for tv, would have grabbed this one but already had the Q70T, but use some monitors for music.

  • WA gets screwed out of another killer deal :(

Yea but on the bright side you’ve been Covid free (virtually)

      • this didn't age well.

“Item doesn’t post to Australia” for Brisbane.

    • nor to nsw regional, even though i am 2 hours from sydney

      • Could be cos of the floods? Even if not where you live but somewhere on the logistics route.

You get pretty much what you pay for though. This soundbar is on half price quite often.

  • Doesn’t post to Australia (regional Vic) and out of stock now.

  • Out of stock now..
Did you receive and try it? I read many review with issues of sound disconnection and not loud satellite speakers, kinda make me think twice before buying the Samsung HW-Q950TXY.

There's a 60 day guarantee so if you don't like it you can return it https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/samsung-60-day-money-bac…

    • I had the same issue with the LG SN11RG and returned it after months of stress. There's a real problem with wireless speakers copping interference from home networks. Obviously YMMV.

  • I was looking at this when I bought my soundbar.

I couldn't get past the fabric top

    • Yea it is quite modern.

  • I have chosen JBL Bar 9.1 over this.

    • The main neg with the detachable speaker bars is it makes stereo worse as it makes the bar even narrower.

      • Samsung one is too long indeed.

        • Well for audio it’s not, for physical restrictions it might be. With soundbars the longer the better in regards to left/right audio.

  • From my research, great soundbars but they don't have good positioning settings for rooms that aren't square.

    • I assume whole purpose of home theatre is to have such ideal rooms. And then if it does not have in ceiling speakers like this soundbar then one has to ensure ceiling height is between between 7-10 feet to get that atmos effect from upfiring speakers.
