        • Damn, I am using commbank debit card as well but it doesn't freakin like it. Did everything, cleared cache, uninstalled-reinstalled the tradeup app, restarted the phone a zillion times but to no avail. I even tried 5 different cards.

Don't know what to do now. I guess this app is designed so poorly that I am now afraid all the entered details of my cards are safe or not.

      • Debit card works. Have done it on 2 devices.

      • I did it with a CommBank debit card with no issues.

    • Please uninstall and re-install the app and try.

  • I bought a White S21 128GB last week because grey was not in stock at the time and I didn't want to risk missing out. I've received it and have not opened it yet.

Anyone in Melbourne interested in trading a grey with me?

  • Has anyone been able to get the $200 voucher via chat today? I've tried 5 times, nobody willing to give me one…

    • I was able to get one today.

    • Try at night.

  • S21 256GB Grey out of stock again just as I clicked checkout d'oh!

  • My status showing as Processing - can i change the order to another one?

  • +1

I received my $50 voucher within 5 minutes yesterday but since lots of us were getting issues getting it, I also asked the support.

To my surprise they sent a manual voucher today:
    MA9-E44N-L454-MTTE

I already used the previous one so i don't need this new one.
    Feel free to use it.

  • Anyone able to chat to the agents today ? unable to reach them

    • Yep - just got one right now. I wasn't able to connect at all earlier, no matter how many times I retried, so I think 8pm is the magical time.

  • Did anyone have issues with posting the phone back? My local po attendant chucked up a big stink saying the label did not cover costs of bag. I was out $1.25 for the cost of a padded satchel. So not here or there i suppose but more the principle of the thing.

    • +12

I'm sorry for your financial loss mate. Hopefully the $750 discount will cover some of it.

    • +1

The trade in instructions clearly says:
Note: you will not be charged for packaging and delivery costs.

So what's the PO attendant complaining about? I assume their cost is covered by Asurion…

    • have you contacted Asurion/Samsung?

      • i cant imagine them giving me a credit of $1.25 lol

        • It doesn't hurt to send them an email - they can easily reimburse you by electronic transfer. As you've said, it's the principal rather than the $ amount. Even if they don't give you anything, at least they are notified of the problem.

    • +4

Agree with you. It's not about the price but more the principle of thing.

      • +2

I walked in, explained im trying to return a phone, have this email and prepaid label and showed them the email saying I wouldnt be liable for costs of label or packaging. She said well, clearly this is JUST A LABEL FOR POSTAGE, doesnt say anything about packaging.

me: well rightio I'll just go back and talk to them about it for clarification? Seems weird though since this email is pretty clear.

her: so do you want to post it or not? If you do you must pay for packaging.

At the end of the day it's not about the costs as discussed. I'm just trying to follow instructions and ensure my phone gets sent in so I dont get charged non-return fee or worse. If it said put it in your own packaging, I could have done that. I have a small mountain of amazon boxes set aside for postage purposes. I just assumed there was some kind of special satchel required but turns out it was the bog standard padded bag.

        • We were/are under the impression that as part of the phone delivery, there would be a satchel or a small box to allow us to put the phone in. However, that doesn't appear to be the case (could it be because so many OZBers bought them they ran out of the satchels)?

It's good that you let people know so we know it is quite likely there will be no padded bag or box. It's not worth the trouble calling Asurion for $1.25. I have issue with the trade in (their app has a bug so iPhone SE doesn't work at all). I called them only to get the message that they are too busy so contact them later and then they hung up the phone call.

    • +1

No, the lady at the PO told me they provide the appropriate packaging. I just handed her my phone wrapped in bubble wrap, and she did everything else.

      • unreal

        • Maybe it's an LPO vs PO thing… I'll find out later this week!

          • @ardms: Yeah, I went to an LPO.

          • @ardms: I went to the business hub

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: handed my phone over on Saturday . their packaging got me abit worried , they just put the phone in to a padded bag . i wonder who bare the cost if the phone got damaged in transit . Finger crossed all goes well. otherwise it will be a nightmare.

              • @demoiree: I had wrapped my phone in bubble wrap prior to taking to aus post. The attendant told me to use the smallest padded pouch that would fit phone.

If it was up to me I wpuld say that's not enough protection especially since if it gets broken in post

                1. I doubt the trade in company will pursue auspost and more likely claim I sent It damaged.

                2. I wouldn't want to be charged the bonus fee and trade in fee. That would be a total nightmare to fight.

I took photos and video of all angles of my send in phone prior to send.

  • I got my phone today, when do i receive return instructions?

    • They didn't send you any packaging to return the phone in at all? like a satchel or a box?

Appears my phone is going to come either today or tomorrow.

      • Nope nothing just the usual order confirmation and dispatch email.

        • You will receive an email shortly from Samsung.

Fellow Ozbargainers, I feel so strongly about this I've come out from years of lurking:

S21 stock has been used and abused. Marketplace etc has been flooded with euthanistic resellers flipping multiple phones, especially with people trying to get away with not sending the trade in device. Please take what you need or at least honor the terms of agreement if not then don't complain if companies dishonor their deals.

We all love a bargain I get that. But the point of the forum isn't for limitless selfish greed, if not then people wouldn't share these deals to begin with.

Please don't ruin the goodwill of companies to make deals, posters to share them or those who would really benefit. Think back to even a year a go today.

tl;dr don't be a Karen buying bulk toilet paper.

    • +3

100% agree. Sure, use all the vouchers on offer, but not sending your device in is rubbish and I hope they charge you the full trade in bonus.

    • +2

agree, this trade in program is a great deal and to see people taking advantage of it is poor

    • +2

why would samsung give 500 dollar discount just so that they can get your old phone?

      • It has nothing to do with getting your old phone. It's to convince you to buy a new one.

    • Your comment made no difference (as expected) as we are seeing more discussion on what will happen for not returning the old phone.

  • -1

    Just curious

Any one try not to return the old phone and reorder another S21 and use the same old phone as the trade in?

    Will this work?

    • You do realise you entered your credit card during the trade in phone check process? It's not a good idea to confuse them, especially if you are opting to purchase multiple of these.

    • No it will not as the IMEI has already been used to generate a Trade Up ID #

    • Nopes

    • Worked for me. I regret it though. They're gave me an honest discount and I abused it.

  • Finally got the $50 off code, couple hours later after online chat. Ordered a S21 Ultra Navy 258GB for $804.

  • +1

    Grey one OOS again:(

  • why would samsung give 500 dollar discount for your old phone which might only be worth 40-50 dollars (e.g. Iphone SE)?

    • May because didn't sell well? Cost of the phone not really that high.

    • Some people have different moral standard in modern society.

    • Because iPhone SE (2016), despite being listed as an eligible phone that's worth $5 (for 32GB version), actually doesn't pass the app test at all. The iOS app has a bug that doesn't work with SE (2016)'s resolution. Tried digital AV dongle (no difference), I even tried Zooming from Settings (no help either). The only other thing I could think of is to jailbreak, install an app that will alter the SE's resolution and hope the gyroscope test failed due to only the resolution (though from what I observed, I am not certain that's the only issue). However, who has an iPhone SE with a jailbreak-able iOS version? Also, if that display scaling app failed to work, it will brick the phone (and that app is known to brick iPhone X or above phones).

      • Iirc cfw/jb are ineligibile

        • Anyway, I have contacted trade up support, no response from them so far.

Honestly, I doubt iPhone SE (2016) is really eligible. They have no incentive taking iPhone SE… hence $5.

  • My phone had small hairline cracks on backpanel. Anyone tired with similar condition and successful? thank you

    • Depends on the model of your phone. If it's anything from the S10 series and later models, it will still be eligible, but for less value.

      • okay, mine is pixel 2xl. value is just 45$.

  • Just got a tradeup return email.

    5.6 If You:
    (a) fail to return Your Existing Device to Us within seven days after the date on which You
receive Your New Samsung Device, You may be charged a Device Non-Return Fee in
accordance with clause 6.2(a) below; or
    (b) return a device to Us that is an In-eligible Device, You may be charged an In-eligible
Device Fee in accordance with clause 6.2(b) below; or
    (c) return a Mis-Graded Device, You may be charged a Mis-Grading Fee in accordance with
    clause 6.2(c) below.

    • Yes, the trade up company have to cover it's end .
$500 bonus is a marketing strategy from Samsung, don't know why some people could not see it, and must involve moral issue…..

    • But it does not say that you lose $500 promo bonus? That just means they will deduct trade in handset fee if you don't send. Isn't it?

    • Can you please quote the relevant clauses mentioned? Looks like 6.2(a) to (c).

    • +1

I had chat with Samsung customer care team and they confirmed 500$ bonus + non return fee.

    • Doesnt mentioned any samsung promotion $500 dollors. For my understanding, it only asking you to pay the trade up amount or send the phone. I believe, they will have to obay that we only give permission for deducting trade up amount while puting our credit card. So they can only do that. And I am supposed, after the sell is finished, samsung doesnot care or interface with trade up issues.

      • I'm more concerned if they disagree with the condition. I don't have any cracks on the handset or screen but it does have a few small dings on the edges.

I don't mind having to pay the handset trade-in price as long as they return it.

        • yeah that is also my concern

Just a few scratches on the corner, they could potentially drop the trade in value to $5

      • +2

It's in Samsung's tnc. They can preclude/disqualify you from the program ($500 promotion) if you break their tnc. And in their tnc, you agree to send your device in. They probably do multiple promotions like this, so can't be bothered to be specific, and just say "program". If they do disqualify you, they can charge you the $500 if they so wish to.

In their tnc it's in the clause 5.4 and 11.1

        • Might be we are thinking too much. For Samsung they sold tons of phones which were not sold. So they are happy. And in other post, read somewhere, they only charged the trade up amount. I am planning to not send my phone. I believe after we got the phone, there is nothing betwn samsung and we. We only have to deal with that trade up company and it clearly mentioned in trade up app, we authorised to use our card for only trade up value.

          • +1

@Donask: I'm just saying that if they decide to charge the $500, they can and we have no legal leg to stand on since it's in their tnc. Whether they do, is up to them. When they did this promotion before, they charged the $500. But that's in the US, (based on twitter and Reddit). Maybe Australia is special.

            • @khaez: Yes you are right. I just search in the internet and read the comments and issues in there. It seems that samsung by itself handling the trade up phones in there. But what I see in here we have another company authorised for trade up. So, I think when we buy from samsung and received the product, the deed is over with samsung. I never heard that using unauthorised promotion vouchers, after sale, the company never charged us back. Similarly, samsung has a marketing promotion and after that its over. But things might be different, however, I am planning to send the phone. Lets see

  • Anyone has an idea when it will restock again?
I am waiting for s21 grey one

  • Just out of curiosity what does a good samsung s9 trades for ?

    • $95

      • +1

        +500+200+50 so about $845

      • You mean $595…

    • You can do it estimate yourself on the site.

      • Not if you done have the phone with you

  • +2

Okay rather than everyone guessing, here's the definitive T&C (posted on whirlpool):

"6.2 You will also need to enter valid credit card details into the Samsung Trade-Up App, which only
accepts credit card details (debit card details are not acceptable). You authorize Us to charge

    Your credit card:
    (a) a Device Non-Return Fee if You do not return Your Existing Device to Us within seven
days after the date on which You receive Your New Samsung Device.
    (b) an In-eligible Device Fee if You return a device which is an In-eligible Device. Upon
payment of Your In-eligible Device Fee, Your In-eligible Device will be returned to You.
    (c) a Mis-Grading Fee if You return a Mis-Graded Device.

    1. DEFINITIONS:

Device Non-Return Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when
Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device
Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions.

In-eligible Device Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when Your
unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device Online
in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions.

Mis-Grading Device Fee means a fee which is equal to the difference between the following amounts:
    (i) the amount of the discount You received when Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of
sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of
    these Terms and Conditions; and
(ii) the fair market value of Your Existing Device once grading is confirmed by Us."

I read this as they can charge you the handset trade in amount plus the bonus amount if you don't return or send a different handset.

If you return and they don't agree with the handset condition (mis-grading) then it looks like the max you can lose is the difference between their valuation and what it was valued when you placed the order. I'm okay with that.

    • +2

Really need a lawyer to explain it to us XD

    • For my understanding, the device value and discount we got is the real trade up value not the promotion from samsung in those clauses. I think samsung marketing promotion will not be add up in the trade up value. Let see, we will find out soon.

      • +1

My understanding that Trade up company is paying phone value to samsung and getting the phone from us for further reselling/refurbish or parts resell.
So samsung may not come into picture as above mentioned. if we asked to return the phone incase they do not agree condition and do not want to pay the phone value or not sending the phone to them, then they may send the report to samsung to charge it.

        • Yes, I also believe that. If we did not returned the phone and did not pay the trade up amount. Only then they will report back to samsung. However if they get the trade up valued amount instead of phone, that might be ok as they will get the valued amount.

          • +4

@Donask: I think this is pretty clear:

"means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when Your
unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device Online"

To me (and IANAL) this means the full trade in amount including bonus.

            • +4

@gadgetguy: Agree. When I applied my trade in I'd I got a $595 discount (95 for device + 500 bonus) so that's what I'd expect to be charged if I didn't return my device. Honestly that's what I hope they charge people. You agreed to trade your device in. If you don't fulfill your commitment you deserve to lose it all.

              • @wombat81: I do NOT agree. The clause in T&Cs that says …the amount of the discount You received…" then directly refers to Section 5.2.

Section 5.2 is the discount the Tradeup App gave you when you ran it. No mention of the $500 there.

                • +2

@rifter: It says you have to pay back the discount you received when you entered the Trade ID at the checkout. When you entered that ID at the checkout you got a discount of $500 + the value of the device. It's as simple as that.

Whether you agree or not, Samsung/Asurion have clearly covered themselves to recoup the bonus, and they'd be bonkers not to.

                  • @wombat81: i do not see them listing device as stolen if not returned rather than getting into a arguement over the $500.

            • +2

@gadgetguy: Not really. As much as I would hope OZBers stop thinking about not returning their old devices. If you read it carefully, all 3 situations (no return, returned wrong phone, incorrectly graded phone) all indicate:

the amount of the discount You received when Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device Online

Now, if you want to apply that if someone failed to conform to the T&C, that person would lose the $500 bonus, then the incorrectly graded phone would mean they somehow will work out, with that $500 in mind, the fair value of the not quite right phone and decide how much to deduct. Or, the really harsh view that all 3 situations means people will lose the $500 + trade up phone credit (or the gap).

Honestly, with my attempts to get support from Asurion so far (zero response from them and they hung up when I tried to call them), it is best you try to make their life easier (I would). It's going to be a pain to deal with them if things gone pear shaped. If you want to gamble for that extra bit (somehow you still love your old phone that much or you think you can sell it for much higher price), then just be prepared. We've given them our details, the phone's IMEI, credit card details and some people want to do a dodgy brother on them?

              • @netsurfer: 100% agree with you @netsurfer

If OzBers keep doing things like this (i.e. not returning the phone), it will ruin it for everyone and there will be no more deals like this.

I know everyone like bargains but not returning the phone is over the line.

              • @netsurfer: That thread had two Samsung reps saying the opposite to each other.

I think the t&c are clear, we will only know if someone tries it. As I said, my concern is about them not accepting some small dings on the phone - I intend to send it in. But I'm on a special order so it may be a month or more away.

              • @netsurfer: Dupe - ignore

      • It’s already been confirmed over here that you do not get charged the bonus and only the agreed amount https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612353?page=1#comment

        • Two different Samsung reps saying the opposite thing in that thread. Up to you to take the risk.

          • @gadgetguy: He didn't link it properly, but an OZBer confirmed it if you read the whole page. Anyway, to save you time, here is the info (and a link which goes directly to the comment).

curryblunder's comment indicated he was charged $315 for not sending in his Note 10+.

    • +1

Please read Section 5.2 carefully. It determines which discount figure is to be used. And it is the figure the Tradeup App gave you when you ran it on your phone.

      • +1

I'm no lawyer, but do you really think a court wouldn't make you pay the bonus back if it went that far?

  • Guys I don't own any credit cards, only debit card and it says failed when I type it in. Did it work for anyone with debit card?

    • Yes, I used a debit card. Make sure the year is xxxx instead of xx.

      • Yes I did, but still not accepting it.

        • Try looking through the comments, someone here had the same issue where it said card failed, but managed to fix it.

          • +1

@khaez: Sure, thanks. I hit the chat and they said they only accept CC. I guess those so called samsung "experts" really are experts in not knowing anything.
