    • Yep. That's exactly what I've experienced. Haven't heard a word from Asurion. Phone was delivered early April.

      • On my Orders History page it says Dispatched but in view details it now says Delivered. I have still not received any email regarding sending the phone back. Got the phone late March.

    • Did either of you get charged the $500 tradeup thing from samsung or Asurion?

      • +1

I haven't been charged at all…yet. Neither the original trade value or the promotional bonus.

  • Another update.

Finally received the email to return the phone back.

    • awesome, could you please update us? i have not got the email but i ve sold my phone on fb market. so also curiously want to know the best approach to this situation. xoxo

  • This is the response I received after I advised them that I am thinking of not returning the device.

    Hi,
Thanks for your query, if you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit you received at checkout when purchasing your new device. After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. Please keep in mind that any promotions or bonuses you received in addition to your trade-in credit are managed by Samsung directly and Asurion does not manage or apply extra promotional credit. We hope that this information has been helpful.
Unfortunately, we do not have the exact time frame of when you will be charged, this is an automated process and the charge should occur after 14 days has passed since you were sent your return label. To make the process as easy as possible please keep the funds available in your account.
You may receive some reminder emails about returning your old device which you can ignore if you’re planning to keep that device.
    Regards,
    Samsung trade-up team

What do I make of this?

I got this response from Asurion couple weeks ago….

      Hi,

Thanks for your query. If you wish to not return your old device, you will only be charged the amount that you were offered for your old device($145 in your case) and it will no longer be a requirement to return the old device to us. Any promotion offer will still remain as it is. Hope that information was helpful.

      Regards,
      Samsung trade-up team

      • Yea, I was expecting the same answer as you, but it's a little different response.

    • Is there anything Samsung planning behind the scenes? Asurion hasn't charged non return fee yet and their updated email reply says that $500 promotion is not in their court and Samsung deals with it. What is Samsung going to do now?

  • Samsung is going to run another trade in promotion with stackable $250 off. There was one recently. It’s all about market share. They are still making money on these sales.

Earlier, I returned an S10e that apparently had some minor chips on the side casing and asked for this to be returned. It has now been returned to me, and I was charged a $175 device non-return fee. On Friday, my daughter was charged $35 for a non-returned Galaxy A30 (I think it was the A30 anyway), bought via the Education store in early March (with a $300 trade-in bonus via the Education store). So, here is one data point of a non-return charge happening.

    • Did you have to pay for the return postage?

      • +1

No mention of return postage - came back in a standard Australia Post eParcel packet.

    • Soo neither of you got charge the $300 tradeup bonus even though the devices were not legible /not returned?

      • +1

Correct. Neither I, nor my daughter, were charged the $300/$500 tradeup bonus for the non-return/condition not-as-stated phones.

    • Early March and they are charging now. More than after two months I guess.

  • Just got my postage instruction email from Asurion. Received phone first week of April, so been about 7 weeks waiting. I replied asking for confirmation of what happens if I don't return, as I'd prefer to have a personal response.

  • By the sounds of it, the amount of people gaming the system, they are bound to change it or do away with these trade in deals altogether. Good going of that's the plan.

    • +2

We will never now if Samsung is still making profit despite not charging back. Also assume Samsung ordered significant amount of parts from their suppliers to make these phones (expecting very high demand) and now they are just making these phones to use all those parts. In some cases, Samsung might have to pay huge penalties to cancel their suppliers' orders hence they will find lucrative to make these phones and sell them at smaller profit. In summary, what I am saying we just don't know what Samsung is dealing with internally and why they had this deal in the first place.

  • "Device Non-Return Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when
Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device
Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions"

This ^^^ is from Samsung's T&C's for this deal; I imagine if they mention the discounts that were applied at the 'point of sale' it includes everything??!

    i.e Trade-in value of phone+Trade-in Bonus+Chat voucher($200)+Newsletter($50)?

  • +1

for all that are interested, Asurion has just initiated a non-return fee from my credit card and it is only the trade in value 80$

    • How long since your final 48 hr email?

      • 8 days

    • Asurion was never going to charge you the $400 bonus, they're only concerned about the trade-in value.

Samsung is the one who's shelling the $400 out, not Asurion; soo if you're gonna be charged, it'll be by samsung.

      • Don't ruin our moment of happening

        • +1

Haha sorry mate, wasn't the intention; just been stressing out over here; guess we're just all in it together then! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • +1

I got charged the non-return fee of $10 yesterday. The postage probably costs more than the trade-in value of my phone.

  • I was charged my $70 non return fee today also, 8 days after the final 48hr return email

    • thanks, I'll look for a charge tomorrow or day after then.

  • I returned my trade up phone (s20Fe 4g) and Asurion received it on 28th of April.
Today they debited the trade up value $305 from my credit card.
    Anyone with the same issue?
The phone is in pristine condition and only a few months old, no email from Asurion!

    • email them [email protected] and ask them and told them your phone is perfectly fine.

Last time they emailed me photos what wrong with my S7.

      • Thank you, I already did and attached my lodgement receipt and also a screen shot from Auspost app showing my phone was delivered.
Hopefully they'll reply to me soon.
It's quiet upsetting as I actually returned my phone promptly and there was no communication from Asurion except the email they sent the return postage in.

        • They want a 100% perfect phone I am not sure why.

          • @superforever: My phone is in perfect condition.
They charged the full trade in amount and didn't tell me why.
I checked my junk mail nothing.
I am happy to have my phone back as I can sell it for more, I was just doing the right thing.

            • @HJR: In that case may be they didn't receive your phone.

              • @superforever: That would be a nightmare, as it shows that it was delivered by auspost, hopefully the staff member didn't steal the phone and sent an empty box!
I have photos and a video of my phone just before I drove to the post office.

                • @HJR: From your experience how long they take to reply to emails?
I hope that I don't have to do a chargeback.

                  • @HJR: After I received email from them with the charge back, I replied them but didn't receive any reply. After 2 weeks I emailed again and received reply next day with the photo of my S7 and they showed me where is the crack.

                    • @superforever: Thanks for that. If I don't get a reply from them within 48 hours I will just file a charge back with my bank.
Thanks for your help and also for posting this great deal.

Asurion took $70 from me for my non returned phone. Happy Days.

  • I'm feeling quite uncertain of the bonus $400 being clawed back or not incase I don't send my phone back :s
Haven't even opened the new phone yet!

Do we know for sure what's happening with the bonus or we're all just playing a waiting game with lots of wishful thinking :P

    • +2

be certain my friend…..only the trade in value will be taken out of your cc.

  • Mine was deducted for the trade in value as well $315 for a Note10+

  • +1

I'm pretty confident that Samsung is not going to take back the trade in bonus if we don't send our old phone back.

Samsung is loosing market share to Apple in Australia. This trade in bonus is a creative marketing exercise to claw back market share without appearing to have a big sale and possibly causing permanent damage to the prestige of their brand new top tier phones.
