  • @superforever
Not sure if you need to make another revision of the description as the T&Cs are a bit unclear

After adding my trade in code to cart the bonus $500 description mentions the offer ends 29.04.2021
    https://imgur.com/a/0xxFF1w

As for the date of 08.04.2021, that might apply to the trade in discount value of the phones provided as an example in Samsung’s T&Cs, without clearer wording it’s hard to be sure

  • Ordered last Friday. Shipped Monday. Got tracking yesterday from live chat and the order status is still ‘its being prepared’ on star track. Is this normal?

It says estimated delivery was 30th of March.

    • Check StarTrack tracking event. Has StarTrack got the package? Samsung order status is not always accurate.

      • My star track says ‘being prepared’. Samsung says it has been dispatched.

        • So StarTrack has not acknowledged they have completed the pickup and have the item.

          • @netsurfer: Sounds like something StarTrack would do.

            • @TheSlayr: Well, considered my order status on Samsung site is still incorrect and there is no sign of the e-mail with the info to post the phone to Asurion + you get different versions of the procedure from Samsung Support, I don't exactly trust Samsung. Obviously with so many OZBers purchased these, certain things are not working as expected.

  • Received my s21 Ultra yesterday but no satchel contacting samsung, customer service told me the satchel will be sent within 7 days and not to worry about having to send your phone in on time.

Only thing i got is packing list and i assume that was for the phone i received.

    • +1

You don't receive a satchel but a code that can be scanned at an Australian Post office. It covers all cost to return the phone.

      • We know that, but that's the issue. I explained that to Samsung Support, but they kept on insisting a satchel will be sent within 7 days. I talked to another Samsung support and his response was simply: wait 7 days. Asurion support doesn't reply to emails promptly.

        • If you already know that, why ask the Samsung rep? 🤔

          • @ValouSydney: Because I was hoping they could send me that email or check the order (as it is not showing delivered on Samsung site, only on StarTrack site). Also, I don't have psychic power to know that the Samsung support staff would provide out of date information. Furthermore, you expect them to believe "but OZBers reported they received an e-mail soon after receiving the phone" something they will accept? They insisted a satchel will be posted and basically won't do anything until 7 days later (and I am guessing they will simply go, email Asurion).

Also, there was a BS comment from another OZBer in another deal indicating that one could go to a Samsung store to sort out the trade in issue (i.e. give the phone to the store). It turns out to be BS. Samsung Support indicated that's only for a trade in related to an order for an order for that store, not applicable to online orders. But then again, given I have probably been given misinformation from Samsung Support (I strongly doubt a satchel is being posted to me), I might still pop into a Samsung store (not that far from me) to rule out that being a possible solution).

        • Asurion replied to my email within 24 hours, last week.

          • @wombat81: Well, I contacted Asurion on another matter via e-mail 3 days ago. Nothing so far, no reply.

      • This. I went to my local AusPost office this morning and returned mine. I used the box the S21 Ultra came in, and with little bit of DIY cushioning for protection from damage. AusPost will scan the QR code in the email and will print out a label straight away.

      • What code? Can you describe what it looks like? Does it say Australia post on it?

The only thing that i received is a Packing Slip.

Is that what i need to take?

        • Yes it says Australia post on it and has a bar code and QR code.
It covers the price of the satchel and postage.

          • @ValouSydney: Ah okay so its not the packing slip then.

            Cheers.

            • +1

@Tehcookiemonsta: You should receive it by email not long after receiving your phone.

              • @ValouSydney: Multiple people are having issues. If you placed your order last week, then it is less likely you are affected by this issue. While I get you guys are trying to help, but we are not getting that e-mail, Samsung Support is pretty useless, Asurion is very slow and they are flooded with e-mails by now.

Also, OZBer waterstone indicated Asurion Support came back with the whole ordering process (by Samsung) should have generated that e-mail, rather than sending the info / label to him. Basically, Samsung Support indicates wait for Asurion and Asurion Support replies with the ordering system should have done that.

The only thing I noticed that's a bit unusual is that despite StarTrack now showing item is delivered, Samsung is still showing Dispatched status. However, checking with an OZBer indicates that is for people who ordered with a registered account so he cannot check his order status for me anymore.

  • Anyone notice the price offered for a Galaxy Note 10 Plus has gone down, I remember seeing 315 for my 256 GB model and that is coming up as 260 now.

    • Same with iphone 7 256, was 105, now 70

    • -1

It looks trade-in prices of all devices are reduced, sneaky move.

      • +1

        Why is it sneaky?

        • It's sneaky because they have changed part of the promotion while the deal is going on and without any notice.

    • counter it but not sending it, means they'll charge you less now :)

      • Lol

  • I returned mine today and AP staff provided a free padded satchel. I took some photos on the spot and they gave me a receipt with tracking number.

    • I sent my one yesterday, the lady just scanned the code and gave me the receipt. She said to me she was all done, but I don't know what she is going to do with my phone.

  • +1

Here is another version of the reason people not receiving the e-mail with the phone return information: (from talking to Samsung Support)

There is a system migration started 30/03, which suppose to end on 01/04 3PM (but it is still going). It is likely a lot of orders are still in dispatched status instead of delivered status. So, Samsung Support thought I still haven't received my phone yet. I checked with ValouSydney, who has received the e-mail, his order is showing delivered (instead of dispatched).

I am not sure how true / accurate that is (or Samsung Support is blaming the system migration). However, it doesn't quite make sense as my order did manage to update to dispatched status on the 30/03. Anyway, we'll see if that's true or not… I am cynical about this. If that's the case, people who received their phones between 30/03 (afternoon) to 1/04 would be affected by this.

However, we have an OZBer who received his phone on Monday 29/03, also affected by this issue (so it doesn't sound like system migration is the cause).

  • Does anyone know if the timeframe to return the trade up device is 7 calendar days or 7 business days? A few public holidays over Easter means Australia Post are closed.

    • +1

from my experience, calendar days. I'm sure they'll understand if you fall on Easter public holiday, not like they'll send the feds to your place lol

      • Yeah, they send the first "reminder" email after 7 calendar days.

        • So do we have 7 days to return the device, or is there leeway up to 14 days?

  • Has anyone else not returned their phone and can confirm about the $500 charge yet?

    • returned my 1st phone, not returning my 2nd phone :)

    • Emailed ausrion yesterday, waiting for reply

      • Emailed ausrion yesterday

        So what you told ausrion?

        • I won't be able to return my trade in phone, please confirm I will only be charged 80$ as a non; return fees and that I will be able to keep the 500 promotion bonus

          • +1

@U30004: Did they end up replying to your email about the return fee by any chance?

    • +1

No one will know until earliest next week. Deal started on the 18th (if I'm not mistaken), earliest delivery of phone is 19th, so earliest someone would find out is 2 weeks after that. So next week (due to public holiday). Anyone who says they have/have'nt been charge is lying. Unless they send in an unqualified device.

      • I mean the email screenshot reply is from Asurian provided by another Ozbargainer and that should suffice to be no $500 charge i hope.

        • Asurion deals with the trade in value, Samsung deals with the $500 promotion. So whatever asurion says doesn't really apply to what Samsung will do. Basically asurion just charges you, and then tells Samsung that you never returned the phone. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

          • @khaez: But the there is chat screenshots too indicating promotion stays as it is and for any further queries, email Asurian.

            • +2

@BinnyC: What a chat or email rep says men's very little. There's no point speculating until there's evidence of the charges.

Personally I hope the bonus is also charged back since it's pretty slack to not keep up your end of the deal after agreeing to.

            • @BinnyC: Yeah, chat reps say different things. Screenshots won't really help, they can just turnaround and say the reps weren't aware of the charge. Since their tnc says they can charge you if they want to. (Not in those exact words). Tnc which we agreed to when entering the promotion. Legally, that holds much stronger, than what chat reps say.

              • +1

@khaez: Well the reps are sales experts to explain promo running? TnC are very complicated for a common man sometimes and that is why we asked company the question.

                • @BinnyC: Well, the promo states clearly, trade in your device and get bonus $500, so under that assumption, if you dont trade in your device you don't get the bonus, no reading of tnc required. I'm not a lawyer, but I reckon if you try to fight that in court with what the rep says, it clearly shows you entered the promotion with ill intent. Not sure if you'd have any legal leg to stand on. Any lawyers out there, if I'm wrong I apologise. These are just my opinions.

                  • @khaez: Not worth it i guess the hassle. Will send the handset then..

          • @khaez: Asurion may report to Samsung the phone was not returned.

Still waiting for his proof XD

But I have returned mine S7, $15 only.

@superforever: Doubt theres any proof. He's most likely bluffing for likes.

              • +4

                @khaez:

He's most likely bluffing for likes.

May be, that is why I asked him "why created this account to inform us" but I got 12 -votes XD

                • @superforever: Yeah, I don't know why you got neg'd.

And for those wondering, "oh, what can Samsung do if I paid using afterpay/prepaid debit card/etc". Well. They do have the Samsung reactivation lock thing similar to iCloud lock (which apparently is pretty good), could lock you out, or maybe ban your imei, or maybe your device isn't covered by any warranty. Sure you might get away with the $500, but at a cost. Maybe. Just maybe, lots of maybes.

                  • @khaez:

Sure you might get away with the $500, but at a cost. Maybe. Just maybe, lots of maybes.

Not sure what they will do, if they found out too many doing that, not sending phone back or use the same phone to trade in twice and not sending back.

                    • @superforever: Yeah, for now, no one knows how Samsung will respond. But I'm sure that if they do decide that they want the $500, and people decide not to pay it, they have a few ways to approach it. Voiding your warranty would be the easiest, since your "transaction" wasn't legal. The scloud lock thing might be a bit too extreme, but doable. Like how iPhones stolen from stores will technically become bricks.

Saving you guys from reading through the comments. Here is a quick recap.

      • There is an OZBer who indicated he was charged just the trade in credit (not the $500).
      • Another OZBer indicated he was charged the trade in credit first, then 3 days later the $500. However, no proof provided and the dates he provided are a bit sus.
      • The dates provided by the second OZBer essentially meant he was not given any grace period (which is different to what we've been told).
      • Samsung support staff, depending on who you speak to, can give you either version of what will happen.
      • One OZBer posted a screenshot of the email reply from Asurion support indicating it is just the trade in credit.

I did send a PM to the first OZBer (after the message post from second OZBer indicating he was charged $500) and he replied indicating he received an email saying he would be charged $315.00 if the phone is not returned (the trade in value of his old phone). That OZBer bought one from the deal prior to this one.

      • Well the first Ozbargainer has also provided a screenshot of chat that did say will only be charged handset cost i.e. $315. In his case, bonus was I think $750.

        • Well, I am not sure we are referring to the same OZBer… Anyway, if it is the same OZBer and we really want to be picky / absolute, one could argue that's a different deal so the rules for this one "could" be different.

I want to return mine, but still waiting for the e-mail. Samsung support are clueless and cannot do anything. Asurian support are slack. I reckon Asurian would only be willing to pay for the trade-in credit to Samsung. Considered how flaky the systems are, is it realistic to expect Asurian to figure out the extra trade in rebate we get from Samsung and deduct accordingly?

      • This deal is technically the same deal as the previous one. Samsung just changed the prices on their s21s, so someone just made a new post with the updated prices. This is just the continuation of the first deal. The first deal started on the 18th. So even the first ozbargainer wouldn't have been charged yet.

        • Well its been almost 2 weeks from 19th March if you calculate?

          • @BinnyC: Yes, if they did get their phone on the 19th (which is unlikely, unless you get really fast shipping, I ordered mine at around 5pm on the 18th, and got it on a tuesday), then the first people who didnt send in their phones might get charged tomorrow (since today is the 14th day). Tomorrow is a public holiday, so unlikely to get charged on a public holiday or weekend. Earliest they would be charged would be next Tuesday.

      • +1

This is an awesome summary, thanks netsurfer. If anyone can post any extra experiences with this as an update that would also be great. Also could be helpful if anyone with attachments that could be used as evidence here I.e. chat screenshots.
I think if the $500 was to be reclaimed it would be by Samsung and not Asurion.

  • +3

I just got an email saying that 'due to an unforseen system issue your order will be delayed until approx 9th April.
i ordered on the 30th and my status is 'processing'
Personally that actually works well for me as I'm away next week and it would have been tricky returning my old phone.

so there you go for those waiting - expect an email i guess

    • Same for me. 9th April as well.

    • Just recived that email as well.

    • Samesies

    • Thanks, just received the same email twice, but once without a Subject. Was very worried it was going to be along the lines of cancelled order phew

      • Yep, thought the same when i started reading. Very relieved!

Got the email twice too, i think they realised they sent it without subject and sent it again

    • Same here, wonder if there is a way to get this wait shortened. Ridiculous!

      • +3

My order has updated today to ‘preparing dispatch’.

        • +1

Thanks, stopped checking after yesterday's email from Samsung, and went in to check after I saw your comment. Mine's also "preparing dispatch" so hopefully that means we'll get the phone before 9th April. Might have to start looking for a case and screen protector now :)

  • +1

Anyone received their S21 Ultra and the corners look like this? https://imgur.com/a/uOBW5bv

    • Odd. Looks used.

    • Is the box sealed?

      • Yeah the box was sealed spoke to live chat and they said to take it into a service center to assess further

        • +1

Phone frame plastic protector (kinda like screen protector, but for the phone frame). Samsung put that on the phones for quite some time now. I removed mine.

          • @netsurfer: Oh ok it is normal. Does it take an unusual amount of force to actually remove it? Feel like I'm almost trying to chip into the phone to get it off

            • +1

@KS808: Yeah, it is a pain to remove. I bought S21… it is annoying to remove it completely. It is not 1 piece, but multiple small pieces. It is kind of good parts of it is already peeling off.

I get that it is good to protect the frame, but it is annoying. Makes more sense for metallic silver frame, but they put that on black phones too.

              • @netsurfer: Thank you, saves me a trip to the store for no reason.

              • @netsurfer:

I bought S21… it is annoying to remove it completely.

Except the screen protector and the whole phone plastic cover I can't see any "frame plastic protector" on my S21.

                • @superforever: Get an LED light and check maybe? I didn't notice it when I had my S9 Plus. Only noticed it when I tried to put a full body type screen protector on the phone. Cannot recall whether Samsung put that on all phones or only certain colours. Harder to spot on black phones I reckon.

It's good if you don't have it. It's a bit annoying to remove it cleanly.

    • +1

is that the plastic thing that goes around the phone?

      • Looks like it. Just peel that thing off, bro.

  • +1

What screen protector and case/cover, everyone is getting?
    Any recommendations?
Looking for 360 degree protection with built in screen protector like YOUMAKER, Peotic etc

  • Anyone able to stack up $500+$200+$50 discount anymore? cheers

    • +1

Nope just tried. $200 no longer applies
