    I didn't see that coming…

The 40's are a better headset.

    • Why?

Less bass bloat allegedly (from memory), but if you want bluetooth then the argument is redundant because there's no BT verison of the M40x

        Cause of this

And I own the 40's and tried the 50's.

AKG K371 has jumped ahead in this respect, and is $170 for the wired on Amazon right now, but the bluetooth version is not well regarded though.

    • That's not the general view with regard to sound quality. Don't think the 40s have a bt version either

    • This is a bad meme. It's all personal preference and both sound great. I even think the 40x sounds a bit lean on bass. It's just the circlejerk of people who hate any bass, because the m50s are not super bassy anyway.

  • Recently bought some sennheiser bt momentums over ears (2nd gen). Anyone used both and can provide recommendation either way?

I have 3x sets of senns now (2x wired, 1 bt). Should i just wear them to death then roll with a pair of these or/ sony mx4s?

  • Was cheaper last year (June 2020) @ $176.13 at JB Hi-fi for this same Wireless BT model

  • I bought the m50X wired at around Christmas. Used them once and then sold them right afterwards. Before buying them, I did a lot of research and saw they were good for studio monitoring but realised they were bad for male vocals after that one use. Can anyone suggest any better alternatives to these for male vocal monitoring?

      Audio Technica ATH-R70X ($360-$400)
      AKG K371 ($170)
Sennheiser HD6XX ($250-$300, or pay $400+ for the HD600 if you're trying to squeeze the nth degree out of things to monitor the mid-range)

Those are the standard recommendations these days. The M50X is an old recommendation for a very specific purpose (mixing) that consumers who have never experienced soundstage and natural timbre rave about. If you mixing and mastering with these, you won't notice when the final mix is perceptually flat instead of appropriately spacious.

  • Does the BT M50X also have the legendary self-destructing headband cover and ear cushion covers. That was really disappointing to see those bits fall apart.

  • Would this be as good as the wired one?
