Original Coupon Deal Best price I've seen for this CPU, makes me want to stretch the budget from my intended 10-400, but wary of additional cooler required. Seller listed March 2020, not sure what cover AfterPay provides - mods please remove if vendor does not meet requirements.

  • This is a crazy price. I would have this for this price with a z490 board over 11th gen.

  • Seeking advice on this too - could I underclock /volt/watt(?) this and get away with my old i5-6500 cooler, until ready to utilise full capability of this CPU then upgrade cooler? I'm thinking MSI Z490-A PRO ATX whether I go 10-400 or 10-600 (I want the 6 audio connectors), not likely to overclock, but want to utilise the 3200mHz ram i've had for the last 4 years (as best it can be without going i7
    Input welcome, TIA

    • I don't think so, the old intel coolers were pretty pathetic even for their low powered chips, the 10600k under load pulls too much power for that to work. Unless you're targeting very high FPS 1080p gaming, I'd just go for a 3600 which comes with its own sufficient cooler and a cheap b550.

    • I believe the i5 6500 came with a solid aluminium cooler which is the same that comes with i5 10400. Downclock and undervolt the i5 10600KF to the same clocks as the i5 10400 and the power consumption will be the same, however don't expect to achieve turbo clocks. That heatsink will realistically be capable of sustaining around 3GHz all core.

But if your stock Intel cooler has a copper core then it could handle around 4GHz all core.

      • Thanks for the feedback you two. I'll investigate the old sink specs, hopefully pick up a better cooler with new plugs… still cheaper than 10400 now and upgrade in a year or two

  • Should be a price error
10600 non k is more expensive same store

  • +1

Do these CPUs run much hotter than the non-K versions? I noticed that the TDP is 125W which is almost twice the TDP of the non-K versions. I have very bad memories of Intel's 3GHz+ Prescott P4s which had a similar TDP and ran hot/loud.

    • I guess they don't ship stock coolers with these for a reason, and many many previous comments re using specials coolers - how much of that is due to anticipated overclocking I don't know - hence my question above
