  • very nice for those who have missed out previously

  • Nice find. Thanks

  • How long does the Platinum status last?

    • +3

12 months from the date you sign up. Unlike some other loyalty programs there's no "soft landing", so if you don't meet the requirements for the Platinum or Gold or Silver tiers over the next 12 months you'll drop all the way back down to the bottom tier.

Here's hoping there'll be another free Platinum offer 12 months from now, though! :)

      • +1

According to the T&C you will lose your Platinum membership after 12 months unless you:

stay at least 60 eligible nights, or earn 25,000 A|Club points at participating establishments over a 12-month(365 day) period.

If the Member no longer satisfies these conditions over the following 12 month period, then the Member receives the status level that corresponds to his or her activity (see rates below) at the end of said period.

  • thank you :)

  • +1

i'm already on platinum… hehe thanks to the previous deal

    • +1

Might still be worth signing up again (with a different email address) to get another month of Platinum status. :P

      • +1

I haven't since I want this promo to be open to other people who haven't got it. They usually notice when more people take advantage of it. :(

    Good deal.

Just be aware that I booked one of the hotels in the group via wotif and was told that "under A|Club's terms and conditions, prepaid rooms that are reserved by an agent or third party and paid directly by the Member for his or her stay, such as a travel agent, Tour Operator or Internet distribution channel, are not eligible for A|Club points or other benefits related to the Program".

Or you might be lucky enough to get away with it?

    • +6

Should always book through Accor directly. They have Best Price Guarantee. (If you find a lower price on any website, they will beat by 10%.)

      http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/garantie/descriptif.shtml

      • but they charge credit card fees and isn't the process tedious?

        • +2

          wotif charge a booking fee

      • +6

Good bargain. Warning about the price match:
I called up Accor to confirm they would price match Expedia. They told me they would but I had to book immediately over the net. I submitted the application for price match which was then refused. When I asked them why they ignored my emails. Ended up paying $90 more for a room…
Looking at people's comments on the net it seems I'm not the only one who has been refused the price match without explanation.

        • yea thats what i heard about the process….

@ dammit: surely you know which websites don't charge fee…..zzzzzz

  • thanks missed it last time

  • hi followed link but for some reason I am unable to join

  • Thanks, good one =)

  • great deal :D

    • hi waterproof could you tell me how you joined please

      • I had an issue using Chrome. Try using IE browser.

        • Yep, FF works but chrome doesn't.

      • if it comes up with— Invalid identification. Please try again or use another e-mail address. — means email address already in use

      • Just firefox, didnt used any other browser, did you get through?

  • Excellent deal. Thanks OP!

  • Beautiful, thank you :)

  • Did anyone who signed up last time in November receive a membership card or anything?

    • I stayed there over christmas and received an email after checkout saying my card has been mailed.

Also the Platinum card wasn't that useful apart from late checkout.

      • Also the Platinum card wasn't that useful apart from late checkout.

Did you ask for a free room upgrade at check-in (if staying at a Sofitel, Pullman or MGallery hotel)? That's probably the biggest benefit to Platinum status.

        • I did but I had the best booked already so no real upgrade except for a nicer spot.

    • I signed up last November and received a membership card in the post. For this offer, I believe you'll get sent a membership card only after your first stay — in any case, the card itself isn't necessary (just tell then your membership number or print off your membership details).

  • +1

I signed up last promotion and have a card but you don't need the card since you can use your phone to prove the number. The room upgrades were great. For two people we had a 4 bed suite and paid $150 for a night. :D

  • How do you activate the 10 free nights?

edit - oh bummer, Adagio are only in Europe….

    • +2

Where did you see mention of 10 free nights?

Edit: Oh, you mean this clause for Adagio hotels? "A welcome gift for any stay of 10 nights or more at Adagio, plus late check-out". That just means they give you a welcome gift (such as luggage tags, or a fruit basket) when you book a 10+ night stay at an Adagio hotel; they don't give you 10 free nights, from my reading of that sentence.

      • You are right.

      • Ah bugger, yes I read it that way…. now! Just have up my details for nothing, not somewhere I stay…

  • I had a look around online but couldn't see anything about the other arms of Accor. Anyone know anything about any benefits associated with any of the other Accor hotels (eg, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis)?

    • From what I understand, only the first listed benefit (100% A|Club points bonus for every stay) applies across the entire Accor group. The other benefits (such as free room upgrades and late checkout) only apply for Sofitel, Pullman and MGallery hotels.

Some people on the flyertalk.com and australianfrequentflyer.com.au forums have reported getting upgrades at Novotel and Mercure hotels too when presenting their A|Club card, but they probably just got lucky and I wouldn't expect upgrades at those brands. Hope that helps! :)

      • Yea, I got upgrades at Novotel and Allseasons but I was probably just lucky too. My advice would be to book it at a time that is considered off peak. :D

    • I haven't had any success with upgrades etc at Mercure

  • +2

Given the number if negative comments, caveats, quid pro quos, etc, I'm surprised this hasn't received more negative scores.

They don't seem to honor best price deal,
You can normally get better prices through other brokers,
after 12mth, you can kiss your platinum status goodbye unless you're a power user.

Whilst its free, what benefit does it really serve? I book my bookings through tripadvisor.com - which nearly always gets me best price (except the occasional direct deal with the hotel).

So what's the benefit for most people, other than being free?

    DeWalt

    • +4

I think a lot of people are getting it just because it's free and says "platinum" (mob mentality)
An upgraded room (if you are lucky) is really the only benefit for most people who aren't regular travelers (I am for work and you still have to be lucky to score an upgrade, there's only so many ways to arrange a desk and some chairs in a room!) It's not like there is any discount to the original room price and you are paying a premium at their more expensive hotels so a free drink is effectively paid for.

    • +3

I'm surprised this hasn't received more negative scores.

The deal received a few negatives and I got called "stupid" and an "idiot" for posting the deal, but those comments (and negative votes) have now been deleted by a mod.

So what's the benefit for most people, other than being free?

Clearly, membership in a hotel loyalty scheme isn't going to be of much benefit to people who don't travel or see themselves staying at the hotels which confer benefits. But this deal is free, and I don't see any harm in signing up if there's even the slightest chance one might stay in an Accor hotel within the next year.

You can normally get better prices through other brokers

For those who can see themselves staying at a Sofitel, Pullman and MGallery hotel, and particularly those who stay at them frequently, upgrades can often result in a better deal than what is offered though discount booking sites. Being upgraded at those hotels, while not guaranteed, is a near certainty. (The two people in this thread who said they weren't upgraded were either staying at a non-eligible brand, or had already booked the highest category room.) I'm a member of Hilton's equivalent loyalty scheme, and I've never not received an upgrade in my past 30 or so stays — many of those upgrades, from the cheapest room to a suite, are worth $1000's. I've been upgraded the two occasions I stayed at a Pullman hotel with Platinum status. The upgrades are reliable enough that I no longer pay for more expensive rooms, saving me money.

Secondly, free late checkout is handy to have. I know on some occasions when I have an evening flight, being able to able to have access to my room until 4 PM is a massive convenience, so much so that if I didn't receive such a benefit for free I might be willing to pay the $100+ half-day rate at the hotel. Again, this benefit saves me money.

Thirdly, for people who frequently stay at Accor hotels, the double bonus points (+100%) benefit shouldn't be overlooked — as a frequent traveller, I earn enough points in the various schemes I'm part of to get $1000's a year worth of flights, flight upgrades and hotel rooms. I don't go out of my way to earn points, but I like maximising the points I get back on money I already intend to spend.

So even though one may not personally benefit much from this offer, does this deal really deserve a negative if there are others who can benefit significantly from it? I know I get real, tangible benefits from schemes like this, and I know plenty of others do too. My post was aimed at them.

    • +2

I'm a very frequent business traveller, was doing MEL <-> PER almost weekly for many months last year.

I had the platinum status from a previous time this was run and I found it to be useless.

I thought it would help me get rooms in Perth (which can be VERY hard at times, don't believe the crap the politians are saying re: the carbon tax and mining tax killing our economy - its still FULL SWING over there (and now QLD) and shows no sign of slowing).

This is just a fancy version of the meritline detail harvesting deals.

No disrespect to the poster, it's still worthwhile posting, although all I got was lots of email spam.

      • I thought it would help me get rooms in Perth

Perth doesn't have a Sofitel, Pullman or MGallery hotel, so none of the main benefits of the program except increased points earn apply to any of the Accor hotels in Perth. If you travel in the US, Europe or Asia those brands are much more common, though.

although all I got was lots of email spam

I don't get email from them at all, but I unchecked all the newsletter and email communication boxes when I signed up.

This is just a fancy version of the meritline detail harvesting deals.

I think that's a bit harsh; there are real benefits if you stay at Sofitel, Pullman or MGallery hotels. Yes, it sucks that the scheme doesn't apply to more hotels, and Accor clearly has customer service issues, but that doesn't mean the scheme is useless for the few of us who do stay at eligible hotels.

      • .

  • if you use this in conjunction with the advantage plus it gives you platinum for both statuses.

  • Just wondering if anyone has tried to merge accounts with exisiting account and whether it has been possible to transfer existing points.
    Thanks

  • It wouldnt let me sign up with my hotmail or gmail accounts

"Invalid identification. Please try again and make sure the information you enter is correct. E-mail addresses with @accor.com and related domains are not accepted."

I notice the link in ozbargain takes you to step two of the sign up process, what would step one be?

    • I used gmail and i referred this to a mate who used hotmail, no issue. Try again or use an alternative? (yahoo, ISP mail?)

    • step one is selecting the type of card you would like- the free on or the one that cost 170 euro.

  • Thank you for posting, I think this will come in handy for me ! :D

  • The promo code is now dead, cannot get the deal!
-quote: "The given promotion code is not usable anymore"

Did a Google search & this promo code was on offer way back in March last year??????
