Taking pictures from users’ Facebook Timeline information and photography, users will now be able to create 50 personalised business cards for £10/$15. But in a promotion from today Moo is giving away cards to the first 200,000 users, equivalent to 10 million cards.

Free cards and free shipping. You will need to give Facebook access to the Moo app. For those worried about privacy, I suppose you could upload pics to a fake FB account and then get the Moo cards that way.

Click the "start making" button where it's listed From £10.00 .Select 1 picture to be the front of the card and write whatever you want on the back. Note: It will show as free when you checkout but not before. Not sure how useful the cards will be as business cards but still it's free.

A test order I did says they will be here Feb 1.

Moo is a startup with $5 million in funding often featured on Techcrunch.

Update:
Orders are capped at 5,000 per day. A day starts at 12AM London time which is 12PM EST (Melb,Sydney).

  • i did these like 5 years ago, when they launched with a "Bebo" offer, ah… the early days of social networking…

good quality, and cards came out nice, still have one or two hanging around… somewhere. :)

haha i got some to but mine were from "wildcardz" bebo takes ya back

  • +1

LOL Bebo. Seems you can't change your pictures on the front without changing your timeline cover pictures in FB. Also, need to think of creative quote.

ordered a batch, couldn't be bothered to stuff around with timeline so looks like theres 10 cards wasted there :/

    cool offer though.

  • Was tempted to make an unflattering design posing as a friend but it would have been fairly obvious with the changing of profile pictures and cover. Had to go the self deprecation route.

  • Nice deal, you could have a bit of fun with these… I wonder how much it costs them to run a promotion like this, free postage from the UK can't be cheap. Then again they will get a lot of publicity through this if people share the deal on Facebook and sites like this, I had certainly never heard of them.

  • Do note that you CANNOT remove your facebook link from the cards.
I really want to, but can't.
Probably will strike it out with a marker when I receive mine.

  • i spent an hour playing with the damn thing. Al the time I am getting an error saying my facebook has no photo. . However it does have. I've even added a new one and there is still:
    Oh no, an image error!
You don't have any Cover Photos to build a pack of cards with. Why not head back to Facebook to upload some and then give us another try?
    Annoying …..

  • Keeps on telling me I don't have any cover photos on Facebook???
I have plenty of photos, so what am I missing?

Edit - Ah, I see I'm not the only one. LOL

You need 'Cover photos' not regular photos or profile pictures. They are only available if you switch to the Timeline view.

You can go here to enable it: https://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

You can then upload cover pictures

Note: From what I can tell, once you've got a timeline view there is no way to go back to the regular view.

Sold out, it says they'll be back tomorrow.

"Sorry, we've run out of free packs for today!"

"Don't worry come back tomorrow and there'll be more up for grabs"

What is the point of saying they have "run out" for today? Is it some kind of marketing ploy to keep people hanging drag out the promotion…. in theory by doing this they could literally give away only 14 packs at one per day… tempted to neg this based on my theory but i'm reserving judgment…

  • Yep can confirm it reset as of 2:26pm, just ordered my 50 :)

  • Yep, just did a real order (2:46PM). Should be arriving Feb 2. Took forever to decide on some cool timeline photos but I reckon it should be alright.

I ended up putting my mobile phone number in the front area where there is that suitcase icon. Underneath kept location (Melbourne, Australia).

On the back replaced the phone section with skype:myskypehandle.

As for a quote, it was between Yoda "Do or do not, there is no try" and "I'll be back"(T2). Went with Yoda.

  • I changed my facebook to "Timeline" for this… is there a way to change it back to the old format?

    • +3

All profiles will have timeline as they are rolling it out to everyone. No going back. Resistance is futile.

    • +1

Even if there is a way to change back, there isn't a point.
Facebook will be forcing everyone to change to the new timeline format soon. Note: Force, it isn't an option.

Create groups with names like "We hate the Facebook timeline" and "If this group gets 100,000 members, Facebook will remove the timeline profiles". After all, those groups always work. Right?

(lol, no. Seriously though, there's no way back. Timeline is the future for Facebook. It's really quite cool)

  • Update from Techcrunch:

The promotion of 200,000 free packs of 50 cards is on a first come, first served basis. However the offer is capped at 5,000 orders per day (that’s 250,000 cards per day) in order, Moo says, to ensure a “strong ethos of customer service and to make it fair.”

At this rate, it will take 40 days for Moo to finish it’s free offer.

However on launch yesterday, Moo sold out within 2 hours.

And, we’re told, demand is increasing. Today’s card availability was snapped up by 6.00am GMT and card orders have come in from 87 countries so far.
    ..
However, with cards going at that rate, it looks you’re going to have to order at 12.01am UK time at this rate to get any.

  • Anyone know what they mean by 'UK lunch time it resets' I'm in Sydney - so what time is it usually available or resets? and is there also an option to buy it? $15 - because I may give up and buy it instead

    • Seems they are manually doing the cutoff/start times for the day as referenced on their Facebook page.

They stated that today's allocation of cards will start around lunchtime (12PM England time) which is midnight AEST. Per the most recent post, it has just started.

  • Got mine: they are excellent. Thanks :)
