I called the Business Vic team up to see if we can pay with gift cards and be eligible for the Travel Voucher (if that's what you're referring to) and they said no.
really? why they reject the gift card as form of payment?
@BlackorRed: She basically mentioned that the whole point of the Travel Voucher is to encourage people to actually "spend" money at the hotels, activities, tours, etc. because the main reason they were implemented was to help generate income for Victorian businesses. I guess if you think about it, you could have bought a Crown gift card over a year ago and that help them as much in promoting spending now when most businesses are in need of it.

I just called them in the morning today as well, the girl on the phone had no idea what I was trying to ask but in the end, she confirmed from team leader that gift card cannot be used as form of payment but did not explain why when I asked them gift card is also treated as money (I referred to Visa gift card) but they still said no so oh well, I think I will have to pass the voucher off. The main point of this voucher scheme is to get people into the city so it wouldn't matter anyway of how I pay the accommodation as long as I meet the threshold and as I will spend to local CBD businesses during that time
@BlackorRed: Yeah to be honest, I can understand both sides of the coin and the reasoning behind it. I was also going to purchase the Crown Gift Card to pay for my hotel stay AND get the robes as a bonus, but I've decided to just cut my loss and settle just for the staycation instead :).
When you book online you enter credit card details just as a security. They don't actually take out any $, then when you check-in at the hotel you hand them the gift cards as form of payment.

These are nice bathrobes, got a few from previous promotions. They are the ones you can use when you check into Metropol. Microfibre I believe. The Crown Towers ones are really nice, wish they gave those ones out as a bonus.
