Someone Hit 3 Cars including mine and not Cooperating

Hi Guys,

On 6th March morning, when I was about to go to work, I noticed someone had hit my car and rear bumper and rear right tyre was damaged and also scratched the right side of car. He had damaged 2 cars parked in front as well. Last time I drove my car was 3 days prior and I thought no one knows who hit the car. I reported this incident to police on 8th March and she said she will come to street and will check if any CCTV cameras might have captured and will contact me if required (no contact so far). Then on 12th march I applied to cancel my rego as I thought it would cost me same as the worth of the car to repair it and I started looking for second hand car.

But Today, I saw the note on my car from my neighbor whose car was hit was well and he had all the details of the driver ( he was driving unregistered car with no insurance). He gave me the number to contact him. I called him but he hung up on me and stopped answering my call. My car was uninsured since I am working from home these days. One car hit had 3rd party insurance and he had contacted his insurance company. Two cars including mine was uninsured. He had promised other guy(this guy was witness) who had uninsured car to pay for repair but he is not cooperating with him as well.

Now please suggest what are my options and am able to withdraw my rego cancellation application? I think it hasn't been processed yet and when I put my rego number in rego check its still saying registered.

in that case, bikies. Or biccies to wallow in your misfortune.

      • If you are going to ask, why create a separate account? Just own it, none of us know you IRL.

    Username doesn't check out.

If you still had insurance, you would make a claim and let them sort it out.

As you don't, you're probably up shit creek unless you want to take the person to some civil court which I imagine would cost you a lot more than your insurance or rego put together.

    • Pretty sure it's half right.

What are the odds that three out of four cars involved did not have insurance?

Have you passed on the contact details to the police? I'm sure they would like to know that an unregistered car was in an accident. And even if he left details on one car, it could still be an issue that he didn't leave details on your car as well.

Having the police contact him may scare him into answering your calls. Without cooperation, I think the only other way would be through court.

Wonder if Nickos1990 has any law firm recommendations?

    • Thanks. We three have decided to go to police tomorrow or day after. My other question was if I am able to withdraw rego cancellation application as then I can put new tyre on the car and get quote for repair to pass to him or police.

      • +1

I doubt you will be able to withdraw it. Most likley it's gone into a queue and will be automatically approved once it goes past a certain point. Finding the right person to stop that happening will probably take longer than the approval.

However that's where you'll have to talk to someone in the Roads dept in your state. But I suspect you'll have to purchase the 6 months.

        • But wont i have to do roadworthy again to get it registered?

          • +1

@WiseMan: We'll need a paint diagram to give that kind of advice out. You should know how it works around here.

            P.S Yes

Good luck getting anything from the perpetrator. Given he left the accident without details just goes to show his morale compass. By the time you organise a letter of demand, chase him up for the cost of repairs, it’s not worth it. People like that don’t pay, because they don’t care.

Lesson learnt, don’t cancel your insurance, regardless whether you drive or not.

        • Thanks for suggestion. Will see how it goes. Will get repair quote and pass LOD to him and report him to cops as well. At least, he will receive the fine for driving unregistered car and impact on his credit history.

he was driving unregistered car with no insurance)
Two cars including mine was uninsured
    who had uninsured car

Is this the Disney story about the four uninsured vehicles?

  • Someone without insurance hit someone else without insurance and the damage amounts to less than one month's registration. Hmmmm.

    • Who said damage amounts to less than 1 months registration? Damage is approx 2500-3000 according to me. 3 panels damaged.

      • +2

You’re paying way too much for registration.

      • So your post should have read:

Someone hit 3 cars. Any bargains on panels?

        • lol

    My car was uninsured

How are you going to make him pay?
Are you going to hire a lawyer?

    My car was uninsured

Took a while, but I always had faith.

This fits perfectly with cases seen on Judge Judy.

    Send a letter of demand?

    https://www.lawaccess.nsw.gov.au/Pages/representing/debt/mak…

This guy did manage to hit at least three cars. So probably driving under the influence and left an accident/s without exchanging details.

    • Send a letter of demand?

To a ghost? The guy hung up on the OP, and is refusing to cooperate. The cops were useless.

      • If OP has their rego police can provide some info.

OP is a dumbass for not being insured though.

  • +2

    FFS OP

This is why you have insurance you dolt

  • Why wouldn't you have insurance.

  • If you didn't want to have insurance due to not using your car much you should have sold / given away your car

  • +1

So OP is not a WiseMan as their name suggests.

A wise man is someone who is venerated for experience, judgment, and wisdom.

    OP fails on each count.

    • I think this is like the Australianism of calling someone with red hair Bluey or a large tall man Tiny.

  • +1

I feel like this could be the same person.

  • I work from home and the car is parked in a garage. It's not worth a lot but there's no way I'd cnx the insurance.

You chose to self insure so now you need to act like the insurance company and chase the miscreant.

    • yes, lesson learned. Will have to chase the miscreant now.
