ah, being a chromebook kinda ruins it.

Anyway you can download Windows on it?

being a chromebook kinda ruins it.

Or on the flipside installing Windows would ruin it, since it's going to be slow as a snail on 2 cores / 4 gigs.

      • True, think you can upgrade the ram though

Depending on your use case, a ChromeBook can be an excellent device.

It tends to just work and I find audio quality on the two I own to be great for calls. No need to use a headset and I've never had issues with feedback / echo.

I have a Lenovo Duet sitting on my desk primarily for meetings as I can continue to use my main laptop and also make a coffee in the kitchen. Also great if I need to join a call when out.

Use a Chromebook here 100% of the time for both work and home. For work use Office 365 Web based apps (Word, Excel, Teams, Onenote, Zoom) , all other functions like CRM, payroll, timesheet all Web based. If I really need local based or more complex Word processing or spreadsheet use WPS Office under Linux.

For home it's mostly Web based anyway, forums email, accounting etc. My photo manipulation is just cropping, straightening and a bit of colour adjustment so either Web based (photo pea or Google photos ) or android apps (snapseed) do the job.

No they're not that good if you do big video or music or photo editing or if you're a gamer. But
If people really think about what they do these days I suspect many people could get away without spring big bucks for high specced machines. Coupled with great battery life, fast boot and pain free and fast updates suits me just fine.

It does take a bit of adjustment to workflow but not much….

        P. S. Have a lenovo flex 5 i3/4gb/64GB With USI pen and a C340 N4000/4GB/64GB. Coupled these with a Dell Wd15 usb C dock so have a three monitor WAH setup. Prints and scans directly to my Canon multifunction with no need to download any drivers.

Have a i7/8gb/256GB linux/windows notebook but haven't used for the last 2 years.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook 11.6" HD for $237.75 is not bad as well if you want a smaller size

    • 11.6" save 340g, but low-res screen and only 32GB storage.

But then no touchscreen on either, so you probably won't be using Android, and then 32GB is plenty.

  • Says $347 now

    • Still same price. You have to be logged in and a prime member for price to show at final checkout.

i got it for 239 recently,

having trouble adding a brother printer on chromebook though

    • Yeah google shut down Google Print for some reason

      • +4

I've been an avid Google ecosystem person for some time, around 8+ years. I recently bought a Mac. I'm done with Google killing things off for no reason.

        Google Allo
        Google Hangouts
        Google Print
        Play Music

        Etc etc

I have zero regrets about moving to an M1 powered Macbook Air.
Next time I need to upgrade my phone it's most likely going to be… gulp… An iPhone!

I see your point but I feel like they're just being agile and willing to move fast and not get stuck (like Apple were with iTunes)

      • Wait, so they've effectively killed off the ability for Chromebooks to print?

Not that I am even remotely interested in getting one

        • +1

Nah, I go to printers and search for networked printers and it finds my Canon inkjet multifunction at home and if I do the same at work it finds the Fuji Xerox Docucentre. Don't need to load any printer drivers or anything it just prints. The "new' scan function also allows me to scan from my Canon, even with the double sided duplex ADF function (haven't tried with the docucentre as I just email to myself).

It does narrow down the compatiblity with older printer however. But most printer manufacturers have a list of compatible printers (which doesn't help if you already own an uncompatible printer however :p )

      • its weird, because i can print from a damn work photocopier and not a simple brother printer, its not google, its brother not supported chromeOS tbh.
they want you to use the app

        • Have you seen this?

          • @Limbot: HL-L2305W
i have this, but it does pick it up~~
i am very confused, ill play with it another time.

    • Install iPrint&Scan app from Play Store to your chromebook or Android phone and add your Brother printer with its IP address.

      • yeah thats easy though
your problem is when you are doing work, and hit print, its annoying as, if you have to go to the app!

As mentioned lots of printers work, just a handful that dont!

  • Good deal. Thanks OP
