Samsung Galaxy S21 256GB $599, S21+ $899, S21 Ultra $1199 + Telstra $59/Month 80GB/Month (12 Months) + $100 Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi

1490

National deal, I believe until the 23rd of March.

JB is running a $750 discount on all S21 128GB models with their $59/Month Telstra plan, as well as a $650 discount on all 256GB models for the same plan. Currently the 256GB models are all $100 off on sale, and come with another $100 gift card as a bonus for purchasing. The 128GB models do not come with the free gift card. Fantastic deal considering the memory card slot has been removed, as it appears these offers stack.

708 (plan) + 499 (phone) = $1207 for 128GB S21
708 (plan) + 599 (phone) = $1307 for 256GB S21 + $100 Gift card after purchase

Mod: OP works for JB Hi-Fi but did not disclose it (sockpuppeting).

  • Any deal on Samsung Note 20 ultra.

Seriously. Look on Gumtree for one of the numerous "unwanted gift" Samsung phones. Most have been purchased by employees of JB HiFi, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman (et al) using their Samsung professional development points (for attending Samsung sales training events). Costs the buyer nothing but their time and they flip them for hefty discounts on RRP.

That was how I got my S21 Ultra 512GB for under $1600 a week after release. Of course, it was a regretful purchase (I hated it) and I ended up sending it to Mazuma Mobile where I got $1400 for it. Was an expensive "trial" but…as the saying goes…you live and learn.

      • Why didn't you like it?

        • +7

Great display. Snappy interface (as you'd expect on a flagship device). Feels sturdy in the hand.

But Bixby is bordering on parasitic and you cannot work around it for certain use cases, like in-car steering wheel controls where you want Google Assistant….but Bixby gets invoked like an even dumber version of Jar Jar Binks.

But it was the imaging performance that was the real deal-breaker. I'd read all of the predominantly US-based reviewer praise and seen dozens of sample images before I pulled the trigger.

Have no doubt - the image processing algorithms running on the Exynos variants are a steaming pile of shit compared to the code used for the Snapdragons. The 12-bit colour depth is laughable when the first thing you notice is the under-estimated luminance and chrominance values. Seriously bad.

I cut my losses and purchased a Pixel 5 as the replacement. Much happier for the product photography heavy use case. In hindsight, I should have trusted my gut and just stuck with my original Pixel 4XL. You live and learn.

@[Deactivated]: I've tried to move to Samsung twice (s10 and then s20FE with the bigger sensor) in the last two years.

Both times I've had to go back to Pixel phones because the Samsung cameras are junk for human photography.

I also tried Huawei and they were a no go as well for this use case.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I'm glad it's not just me that has this issue, i've seen absolutely stunning photos from reviewers showing off S21 photos but mine come heavily noisy, if it's all natural lighting it's quite good, but take an indoor photo? (profanity) garbage no matter what I do just noise all over.

I'm considering to see if i can get a global OnePlus 9 Pro and then I'll probably trade this in for a small loss (Got it for 1600 too)

It's the exy processors are still garbage

@[Deactivated]: Pardon the question: John Cadogan claims to live in "Shitsville" due to substandard products being released in this country. Do you support his statement?

            • @payless69: I have no idea who he is, but the assertion that having substandard products brought here for sale makes the entire country "Shitsville" is, at best, disingenuous - but probably just plain bloody stupid.

Oh that joyous hell called wanting a new phone but not needing one.

    • Bahaha thinking the same thing while typing on my Note 10 plus with 120hz calling my name

    • Yikes

  • +4

Total Works out you’re buying the phone at outright price & getting the sim free on the s21 & paying a little for the sim on the higher models, more just smart marketing

    • Not sure how that is if Samsung are getting money for the phone and Telstra for the mobile service.
Might be smart(?) if all costs were end up at the same place, but surely someone is only breaking even here.

  • The 99$ deal seemed better. Get more data overall.

    • Early termination fee would be less on this as we are getting phone in outright isn’t compare to 99$ plan.

  • 1249 for 128 GB model

    Minus 750

    Is 499

  • Do these have an over heating issue

    • +1

Yep my 21 ultra does and also charging speed is like a snail with heating up

      • +6

To offer a counter experience, I don't have either of those issues with my 21 Ultra

        • +5

Same here, no issues with my 21+

Also on their older jb 50gb 5g telstra plan for $15pm for life which is why i am avoiding messing with my phone plans. Haha

          • @lplau: I wouldn't count on it "for life". Telstra recently moved both my legacy mobile and nbn plans to new more expensive plans.

            • @Gandalf the Thrifty: yea ive had mine a few days and have no issues so far. i did some 8K/4k video recording at my kids sport last night to without issue

            • +3

@Gandalf the Thrifty: Yeah they are force moving everyone. Will give you $5 credit a month to compensate for the increase for 12 months on top of any existing credits. You should get an email from them. Make sure you keep that email in triplicate!!! I lost my $15 credit and only got the $5. Had to actually forward them the email they sent me proving they said that. Then there was an issue with providing more than $15 credit per month, so they gave me the additional $5 as a one off $60 credit. Each month after that my bill has been different from $30 to $60 for the 2 mobiles. So Ive had to message them each month it's over $45. I've ended up with random credits which don't add up either, but I've ended up in front, so can't complain.

        • +1

Just got the ultra this week in that phantom blue. Took 5 weeks to arrive. Has only heated up with gaming but not that bad. Charging is really fast. Perhaps do a factory reset and see if the problems still happen.

        • Mine gets a little warm using the camera on my 21 Ultra

    • +3

      no issues with my one

  • Is there a way to add international calling pack on these post purchase?

    • -1

No international addon possible for the plan

    • +1

@ ashish- yes jump on telstra chat and they will happily add it for extra $10 a month.

  • How much of upgrade would be from S10 to S21 ? I know the camera on S10 is still pretty solid but was wondering if it's worth it buying S21 ?

    • +5

If you want to downgrade your phone

    • Definitely a downgrade with no micro sd expansion. Hopefully they realise it's a mistake to follow Apple and differentiate the next gen or they'll have to keep discounting to get sales

      • +3

Realistically very few people care about things like headphone jack and SD card slot which many OZBs complains. You guys are thinking saving money to use cheap SD card and existing headphones.

Technically everyday user should be happy with 256 which is only $100 more and those who are in to content creation should found themselves very happy with the 512gb version. Remember speed of internal storage is night and day compare to the best SD card you can throw into the slot.

Manufactures only ever cares about cost and work flow. Most of you would have heard of the the port less design that is coming. Apart from the look the major advantage is there are much less assembly procedure when compare to phone still have SD card slot, head phone jack and charge port……

        • +5

SD Card has uses that some (but not all) people have:
          1) doing 4K recordings will take a lot of space.. same with photos which are higher res and hold more data (eg. motion pictures)
          2) Data files. Again, depends on what you do with your phone - but I keep a lot of data including Emulation stuff which takes up too much room. A lot of people download movies, youtube and podcasts onto their SD cards that also take up space.
          3) Transferring between devices easier - yeah.. happens once every couple of years whenever I upgrade. But put the SD card in the new phone and most your data is there including all the pics you've taken.
          4) Overseas trips is much better with it. Store whatever you want to take with you because data is generally expensive overseas esp roaming.

You can argue about "store it all in the cloud".. but I prefer to have this accessible locally without Internet access. The only things I really store in the cloud is emails and configuration backups.

Historically the worst selling Samsung Galaxy series was the S6 / Note 5 series where the SD Card was removed and people hated the tiny capacities that were offered. It's probably a bit better with the S21 since the minimum is 128GB storage.. but even then it can fill up reasonably quickly with a few modern gaming apps, downloaded movies from Netflix/Youtube/Amazon etc.

          • +1

            @bchliu:

Historically the worst selling Samsung Galaxy series was the S6 / Note 5 series where the SD Card was removed and people hated the tiny capacities that were offered.

And then the S21 series removed the SD card again and saw a 30% increase in sales from the S20 line.. Techies care about SD slots.. Average people, not so much.

          • @bchliu: When you have a 500+Gb data pool and a good connection, storing stuff in the cloud, streaming instead of downloading, even the streaming the "boys stuff" is really a no issue.

            • +1

@syswong: Not everyone has that "luxury" of 500GB+ data.. Nor do you get that whenever you are travelling outside of the country either (whenever the border reopens, that is).

              • @bchliu: That is the part that I say why not? A typpical two people family, you have optus one + a $39 plan which can be have for $20 and a data sim use in a modem for $12 total $106 and you can use your data at home and out about. Totally blow NBN + cheap MVNO out of the water.

If you want big data when travel then you buy a local sim. That is given rule, dont know why that is an issue.

      • -2

SD slot (or lack of) is such a weak complaint that everybody is holding onto. Onboard storage is much more reliable and faster and most things are in the cloud these days anyway. Regardless of SD or not, you should be backing up your files locally on the regular and thats something a simple T5 SSD (or any USBC device) can just hook into. losing the SD also avoids the irregular lags.

        • +6
          1. Worse screen resolution
          2. No heartbeat sensor
          3. No sd card
          4. No headphone jack
          5. Cheaper build quality using plastic

There's just no value in upgrading to a S21 from a S10 if your current S10 is working fine, as is mine.

          • +2

@retainer: i also wont be upgrading from my S10+.

            1. I agree with the screen res, but thats what we expect more often than not with a 120hz screen and that sized battery. In saying that, the FHD doesnt look as bad in real life than FHD suggests…thats coming from me who uses WQHD+
            2. i don't remember the last time i used the heart rate monitor and i wouldnt even trust it more than my Gear S3 sensor (which i trust to a degree).
            3. Meh, used an SD card on my S7 & S8 and it really lagged on certain tasks, onboard storage always wins.
            4. Etc.

i agree with the sentiment that the S10+ is a better package…i'd almost go as far as to say it's been Samsung's best and most complete package to date.

          • +3

            @retainer: 120hz refresh rate.
            Much better camera.
            Much better processor.
Better build quality over that shattertastic glass back.
            Flat over curved edged screen.

            S21 is a better phone.

          • +3

@retainer: I really disagree with people who say that there's no reason to upgrade from an S10

For some perspective, this is someone who has owned S10+ > Note 10+ > S21 Ultra

            1. Worse Screen resolution
In exchange for a brighter 120hz, panel. The resolution difference really isn't as noticeable as people make it out to be, and 120hz is far more enjoyable in daily usage than a slightly higher resolution 60hz
            2. No heartbeat sensor
Realistically, who ever actually uses this more than the one time you try it after you get the phone? It's not something any average user would use on a regular basis. I forgot this was even a thing. Gimmick.
            3. No sd card
Yep this does suck, but Samsung has made storage option upgrades cheaper than ever with this generation.
            4. No headphone jack
Yep this sucks as well, but it really doesn't hurt to use a USB-C adapter for those people who want to stick to wired
            5. Cheaper build quality using plastic
Everything is in a case nowadays anyway. Plastic>Glass because it's not something you will accidentally shatter and have a pay a fee to fix

            On the contrary…

            1. Upgraded camera system. It might not be leaps and bounds ahead, but it is undoubtedly better (especially zoom functionality, even on the base S21)
            2. Exynos SOC that no longer sucks ass (finally). Similar or better battery life (with 120hz considered) & faster chip
            3. Larger 2nd gen fingerprint sensor that actually works properly now. Gen 1 really does pale in comparison
            4. Software update longevity. People forget that the S10 line is now 2 years old and will stop receiving major software updates after a year or so from now.
      • +1

How can you call the entire phone a down grade because or micro SD?

      • +1

It's a definite upgrade actually in pretty much every way apart from removing the 3.5mm and sd slot.

    • -3

It's a downgrade for me. No 3mm jack. No sd cars expansion. I'm sticking with s10 for life.
If you want 5g get the s10 5g.

  • +3

I had been eyeing a deal for the s21 ultra. if this was on Optus or Voda I would have pull the trigger. Signal for Telstra is just really bad ATM….

Also is it just me feeling this? There has been S21 deals non stop since its launch, Anyone know if Samsung has problem selling them?

    • S21 non ultra is only for suckers. Either better off with a different model due to price or Ultra. When the S21 was unveiled I said… "Are you serious?"

      • What if coming from say a note9?

        • -1

Still unnecessary only 2.5 yrs old

      • +1

Are you saying you would rather pay $1200 for ultra then $500 for normal, what's soo good about ultra to warant that

        • +1

That is a very good point, particularly for someone (like me) who wants a new phone but feeling the flagships are not there yet….

One reason I did not pull the trigger is because I want the new GN2 sensor, so now I am look at S21 deals. You can trade your phone 12 months later and get most of the money back on the upfront cost.

          My problem is with Telstra…….

  • Are these dual sim? I need it for work and home.

    • +1

No they do not sell the dual sim models in Australia, unless you're buying a grey import.

    • +1

No physical dual sim models, but they do support 1 physical SIM + eSIM. Just get your personal SIM converted to an eSIM.

      • Forgive my ignorance, but how does that work? I need to have 2 SIMs due to work and they're both Telstra at the moment.
I'm on a note 9 dual sim, which I bought from officeworks a couple of years ago.

        Thanks in advance.

        • +1

1 Physical SIM slot as well as an eSIM chip inside the phone. Essentially you call up your telco, get your physical personal SIM card converted to an eSIM (easy process) and you will load it onto a Virtual SIM chip inside your phone. Your eSIM will be locked to your phone until you decide to change phones.

    • But I think you can get an eSim for one and use a physical sim for the other?

  • -1

I got the optus deal with harvey norman was suprised it didnt get as much votes

    S21 ultra 128gb $299 up front $85 per month over 24m 150gb data

    My wife got a s21 violet 128gb $0 up front $65 per month 80gb data over 24m

We both love the phones and they wireless charge perfect in my tesla model 3 😁

At the time samsung offered samsung care $124 for 2yrs coverage which means if you smash the phone you can get a replacement for $140 , no brainer

The s21 is an awesome phone no matter which one you pick!

    • +12

24 month on optus is torture, and the cancellation cost will be monstrous compared to this.

      • -1

        Works fine for me :)

        • +1

Agree most area I go to Telstra signal are really garbage for the pass 18 months. Not to mention most people don't realize that a free phone and a data pool that can potentially replace your NBN is quite a good deal for $85

Most people here are only focus on the short term, aka how can I scam the retailer / Telco a cheap or free phone then put a cheap BYO sim and hut for hotspot everywhere they go….

Have to say customer services is still crap with Optus though!! only good thing about Telstra is you can actually walk into there store and fix things.

          • @syswong: we used to get 4 bars in my area on telstra now its usually 1. its happening everywhere NFI whats going on. maybe 5g upgrades are stopping them getting their current shit working properly?

      • No cost if you can prove Optus service is unusable around areas you frequent like ie home/work.

On another note, this is the 1st deal that works out cheaper over 12 months than outright + MVNO/prepaid. Particularly referencing those who can access discounts in the Samsung Education Store or any other discount programme. For example, the S21 256GB is currently $999 plus eg Woolworths Mobile $150/yr = $1149. This plan: $59x12 ($708)+$499=1207-$100 gift card = 1107. Winner.

    • That's $1,560 over the 24mths for 128gb S21 vs $1,207 + $100 gift card over 12mths for 256gb S21.

Unless Optus works better for you and you don't care about being on a 24month contract, I don't see much of it compares to this JB deal.

      • -1

His is the ultra model. So definitely worth comparing.

      • I should have been clearer. I meant this JB deal works out cheaper for once compared to discounted outright + MVNO/prepaid vs historical JB offers. Not comparing to Optus 24mth contracts at all.

      • $65 plan for s21

    • +1

Wow what a deal this was. Didn't even see it.
Like a free plan for 2 years with s21.

  • I'm guessing the deal is for new customers only? For existing customers, could I sign up to this with a new number (not port over), then port my new number across and then cancel my old service?

    • yep new only. I managed to get education price $1479 + free wireless trio charger earlier this week and im on $29 a month plan from a old JB deal years ago with 20 gig and i dont really need to change as never go over the 20. was initially slightly bummed when i saw then but then did the math and was im cool lol

    • You can be an existing Telstra customer and grab this deal on a new number. Feel free to do whatever you want with your old service.

      • I'm an existing Telstra customer. What's the best way to get this deal on my existing number?

  • Will JB accept gift cards. Should right?

    • +1

Dont think there's a reason why they wouldn't

  • So… I recently got a $500 gift card on a JB Telstra $59 plan but they haven't had any discounts on the S21 Ultra (which is what I'm after) until this.

Anyone have any ideas how I might be able to use the gift card for this offer?

    • You can use the $500 gift card towards the remainder as well.

      • Of course but then I'll have two 12 month phone plans

  • Any deals on 512GB? Might pull trigger

  • +2

    if it's $650 off the 256gb models, wouldn't that make the s21 256gb $599 ($1249 - $650) + $100 gift voucher?

    • Yeah called up to clarify. It's $650 off + $100 gift card. Not $750 + GC

      • Yes op made a typo error, good deal non the less. Thanks

      • Weird.. The store that I called up (Top Ryde NSW) said that it's $499 for the 256GB model + the $100 Gift Card

        • When I called (Top Ryde) that's what they said too but then the guy who helped me noted it was only for the 128gb that was like $750 off. He said the 256gb is only $400 off

          • +1

@phxsun: Ah right thanks for the clarification. Looks like the title needs to be updated.

          • @phxsun: The 256 is $650 off, an extra $100 on sale atm, and gets a $100 gift card on top of that.

  • Do they have deal for ultra and $99 plan?

  • Whats the early termination fee?

  • +2

Much better to wait for the S22, this phone offered nothing new over the S20 and barely more than the S10 IMO…

    • Much better performance and battery life over the S20.

  • +1

Where is the ad to say $650 discount the 256gb models? Only seeing the mobile phone plan deals for the 128gb https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

    • It's in store only. Can confirm cause I literally just bought it

      • Did you get it for $499 + $100 Gift Card on top ?

Edit: just saw your message below all good

  • +1

The email says $499 for the 128gb S21 on the $59/m plan and no mention of a $100 gift card.

You get a gift card if you purchase the 256GB S21, but that is purchasing outright and not as a bundle with the plan. Where does it say you can get the 256GB phone for the same price as the 128gb and also get the $100 GC on the plan? It looks like OP has combined to separate deals.

    Has anyone got the deal?

    • +1

Got the deal today. Was told the deal only applied to the 128gb model, I'm guessing so you couldn't stack.

OP combined the deals. Still very good deal but not quite the cherry on top

      • No gift card right?

        • +1

          Yeah not for this phone
