B550 Tomahawk becomes $179.10 no? Shame since i thought the $225 i paid the other week was good :(

  • +2

Crazy cheap, paid over $300 for the B550 at launch last year.

    • Feel your pain mate, I bought the B550 Gaming Edge WiFi few weeks ago from the same seller and haven't opened the box yet… It's now around $200

      • +1

Bro I bought the B560 (LGA1200) YESTERDAY and it dropped by $20. The order hasn't even shipped yet.

        I'm so sad :(

I find MSI better than Gigabyte for some reason but their Dragon Centre software is horrible

    • +2

Agree, Dragon Centre is horrible at best

    • Noone uses it do they?

      • +1

Only to turn off the RGB

    • I got the X570 Tomahawk a few months back, I regret not getting another brand.

Dragon Centre is horrible, the BIOS is the worst I have seen, extremely difficult to find things and I have had lots of issues when trying to change BIOS settings.

I have also had issues with both BIOS updates I have done, had to use a USB key with hardware button on the back both times after it failed via other means.

      • My B550 tomahawk suffers the opposite, BIOs can't be flashed using USB hardware button, must flash with CPU installed through M-Flash.

May I know which USB model you used for successful USB hardware button flash?

i have a heap of no brand freebies I have been given at conferences etc over the years. I picked one randomly out of a drawer, so not of much assistance I am afraid.

I did have to go through the process twice last time to get it to work.

Paid $349 for the x570 late last year. Very cheap, even without a 10% discount!

  • +2

Damn, excellent price on the x570. I paid around $310 back in Dec.

Still can't use it because I'm waiting on my 5900x :(

    • Same lol

  • Is the x570 worth the premium over the B550?

    • +2

I personally prefer B550 just because of the fan on the X570, some X570 fans may fail in future and some can be noisy (not referring to the Tomahawk though)

Unless you need the extra PCIE4 lanes, go for B550. I bought B550 Gaming Edge which is one of the best B550 Motherboards… 2nd best to be specific - according to the popular Hardware Unboxed Review

      • +3

For reference, I have the x570 tomahawk and the fan never spins up apart from on initial boot. This is in a system with 5900x, rtx 3080 and both M2 slots populated.

        • Same here. I bought the x570 a few weeks ago for around $300. This is an excellent price. The fan never spins up unless the chipset gets beyond 60 degrees.

      • More PCIe lanes aren't the only advantages.

Having said that, unless you need to make use of all the SATA ports or PCIe slots, the B550 is plenty good enough for most.

      • Disconnected the fan on my X570 Strix I. Runs completely silent and temps are very cool even with loads running on a Samsung 980 Pro.

B550M Mortar Wifi is $197.10 + shipping too which is a good deal.

    • Purchased a B550m mortar WiFi for $240 last month and it is an excellent board in terms of VRM.

Sadly, the mortar is only a 4 layer PCB board as
opposed to the 6 Layer PCB on the Tom/Edge*.

So I'm a little bit jelly that the Tom is now $180 given how it is the better board in terms of the PCB.

*Same board, Edge is the Tom with WiFi.

  • +2

Probably the best price for the X570 Tomahawk so far. I got mine in one of the eBay sales late last year for over $300, so I'm a bit jelly. Good time to bite if you were inclined.

  • +1

Damn! What an amazing deal! Paid $254 for the B550 MPG Gaming Edge WIFI just on Tuesday with Ebay Plus. Here's hoping price protection works out.

    Thanks, pulled the trigger!

  • I bought the B550 Tomahawk for use with a 5900X. But I had trouble usb flashing the BIOS to support 5000 series CPU. Tried many usb's and even tried microsd to usb adapters but still couldn't get it working.

Luckily I bought through Computer Alliance, their customer support was excellent. They helped me flash the BIOs using a old CPU and it was ready for pickup the next day! Not sure how is SE's customer service and if they even have a technical team.

    • The recent boards already have 5000 series bios on them.

      • Not neccessarily, depends on the manufacture date. I bought mine in December and the on-board BIOs doesn't support 5000 series

  • The deal is awesome! However, i've read some reviews from "Product Review" (2.27/5 Rating From 226ppl). In saying this, I am a bit worried to order from this website. hmm, anyone have good experience with Shopping Express?

    • +1

I've purchased from them in the past without issue. Can't speak for anyone else, but I have no problem using them again.

    • So far my experience with Shopping Express is excellent - I had to return a B450 motherboard recently (free return BTW), I couldn't post it but they managed to get it working all OK - despite they offered a decent refund amount.

James from their Support team is very helpful.
      I would recommend Shopping Express

      • How did you get free return?
None of my RMAs or "change of mind" returns were free - I payed postage every time.

    • +1

I have purchased from them about 3 times now. No issues whatsoever and they are pretty quick with shipping.

    • Another vote for James from Support team - was extremely easy to go through RMA with him few years ago.

    • If you go to MSI Australia here: https://au.msi.com/wheretobuy#49, in the where to buy - online shop section, you will see Shopping Express is listed as an authorised MSI retailer in Australia. It should be good to order from there for MSI products.

Productreview is well know for editing and removing reviews.

Hence, the problem is with productreviews not shopping express.

The X570 tomahawk, is great board!

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B089HFNQ22/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

    • matx is cheaper

  • These past few days is what this website is for like this post.
Not hey here is a 3060 for $1800 what a bargain quick buy it. Like stop your just making the situation worse for us.

I'm really tempted to buy this but no gpu stock anywhere so I'll probably wait for till I can get a whole pc not just 1 part sitting for months.

    But really good price though.
    Good find.

  • +3

Bought the MSI X570 Tomahawk WiFi for $265 shipped, I don't know why I buy this. Now I have to look for the CPU to go with it.

    • Just did the same for the B550 Tomahawk for some reason. Looks like I'm waiting for a cheap 5 3600 now.

  • +1

Cheers for posting this, I purchased. My Asrock b450m steel legend has been playing up on me recently.
Honestly, I thought I would have the discipline required to wait for DDR5. lol.

  • Great price on the MSI B550 ITX motherboard - $206.90: https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/msi-mpg-b550i-gaming-…

There was a deal posted a couple of days ago for $250!

    • Good price for a B550 ITX and I considered it for a sec but the fan on the M.2 slot really put me off.

  • Does SE have an office somewhere in case i buy a video card and it dies on me like they always do?

    • I vaguely recall their warehouse being located in Alexandria NSW a few years ago, but they did not have a customer facing operation then and I doubt they do now.

  • Just bought an X570 but have no other components.

    • You have to start somewhere!

  • I wasn't seeing the 10% discount - need to add to cart

    • +1

The 10% discount appears once you add it to cart
      Ignore me.

  • I just returned the MSI x570 tomahawk, and got gigabyte x570 aorus pro wifi which supports nvidia SLI not only just crossfire.

    • +2

SLI is kinda dead now isn't it?
Unless you have money to burn for 2 RTX3090s'
(Of course you could use SLI on older cards… )

    • +3

So basically, you downgraded your board (especially your VRMs) for something you won't use and can't properly use even if you wanted to. Congratulations.

      • Yes,I know the x570 Aorus pro vrms
Just the same level as mortar, lower than MSI edge.the tomahawk is a beast!

  • Damn it! I just bought an X570 motherboard from Shopping Express last night for $296.

  • +1

I guess b450 is finally dead

  • PCIe 4?

  • Is the Tomahawk okay for the a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X?

    • +1

It should be fine for Ryzen 9, so 5600x should be more than okay

    • +1

It will hit the 5600 out of the park. It will be ok

  • Isn't it $179 after discount for B550?
And I can't find one free shipping to add into car :(

    • Yes $179.10 after discount but you will need to pay shipping on top of it

  • Found it a bit odd that even though they're using Australia Post, that they're unable to deliver to parcel locker/PO Boxes.
