      • It's possible you can't flash that particular clone, but yes can flash Segway Max with that link.

The M365 Pro clone I could not be flashed. There's clones that can be flashed and clones that can't. Best to check forums to see if people have flashed that particular clone to see if it's possible.

        • Yeah unlikely to flash the clone, if you can find out the controller and are very lucky you might find an app that works to adjust other things… but flashing highly unlikely.

          • @Pobman: I just realised you were the guy in the scootcity deal for the Segway Max who tried to help me flash the clone I had.

I ended up selling it. Not because it couldn't be flashed, but because I didn't use it after the novelty wore off, preferring to take an electric bicycle for short trips every time.

@studentl0an: Bike is more comfy … Scooter more fun, closer to disaster at any given moment :D

Dang. Ordered last week from pcbyte at $849. Great price and looking forward to it. I am looking at lightweight full face helmets now…

    • ebay seems to be only place with stock, every1 else sold out on official helmets.

    • Please let us know which full face helmet you went for and your shortlist if able. Thanks.

    • They only get up to 35kph if modded. You don't need a full face helmet for that. Bicycles are able to go much faster and a crash at 30kph is usually fairly minor on a bike.
Are you going to wear gloves while riding the scooter?

      • It's not the speed, it's height of the fall. A person will incur almost the same amount of head damage falling at 5km/h or 100km/h if their head free falls from standing height to the concrete pavement/footpath/road. This may seem counter-intuitive as we've always been taught that speed kills, but the reason helmet laws for cycles were introduced was because damage is more proportional to the fall.

If you've ever done Engineering or Physics, you might remember the exercise of dropping a cannonball vs shooting one horizontal from a canon. Spoiler: They both hit the ground at the same time with the same vertical force.

        • I don't think your first paragraph is accurate.

Head damage at the velocity of 100kmh is certainly going to be a lot worse, simply because of the forward velocity.

If your logic was true, then that will imply motorcycle riders could be safe wearing a bicycle helmet. Or, bicycle riders actually need a motorcycle approved helmet as they are riding at the same height.

            @jecec:

Head damage at the velocity of 100kmh is certainly going to be a lot worse, simply because of the forward velocity.

That's not how physics works. If you hit an object such another car, gutter etc at 100km/h then sure, but my point was about vertical force, not horizontal, specifically in response to this statement: "a crash at 30kph is usually fairly minor on a bike.".

As an example, a MotoGP rider can fall at 200km/h and walk away, some people have died falling while standing still simply through head impact on concrete. Speed does play a part in others ways, but the risk of the fall doesn't go away.

As eScooters become more popular so too will head injuries, because people (like the poster above) make the mistake of equating damage with velocity rather than also taking into account height.

If your logic was true, then that will imply motorcycle riders could be safe wearing a bicycle helmet.

Close. A bicycle rider would be safer with a motorcycle helmet, as would car occupants. However politics and practicality often limit how far you can take safety regulations.

  • Can anyone compare the Xiaomi 1S to the Segway Ninebot ES1LD? I know the Xiaomi has 10km more distance, but the Segway selling point for me here is the flat-free tyres.

If I can get JB to price match Segway for $599 on the ES1LD, I can use my $300 gift card to get it. Please help me decide!

    • Why wouldnt you buy the E22 which is on sale for $599 over the ES1LD?

      • Didn't even see it. Thanks. Though it seems quite a bit bigger and heavier for only 2km more range.

But I guess my main struggle to decide is over any Segway with flat-free tyres vs Xiaomi tyres on the 1S..

        • E22 has a more powerful motor. Will take you up hills faster or not slow down as much. The ES1LD is more for kids i think

          • @8azinga: Well I only weigh 48kg so hills isn't a big concern. ES1LD has not shown any images with kids on it.

The tyres 8azinga…what about the tyres??

            • @Jewdas90: You will likely get a puncture at some point but it all depends on how you ride it, what you ride over, if you keep the tyre pressures correct and more.
Pneumatic tyres are more comfortable though and will grip better. There are positives to both scooters. up to you what you value.
This is the 1s vs E25.

  • brilliant offer, i bought one from the recent $850 deal from pcbyte and the segway is a beat, powerful u cant go wrong.

IF ur a slim woman, i suggest u get something lighter and u'll struggle to lift it up a step or two…

  • Scooters at JB Hi Fi?….WTF?

        Hi-fi at JB HI FI?…oh wait…

  • Does anyone know if it is possible to increase the speed limit from 25 to 30kph on this using a Mac/iPhone?
Everything I’ve seen seems to require a Windows 10 PC

    • My question above has a link to an app

Just buy cheap android burner phone or borrow a friends ? Only takes a minute. Top speed is marginally quicker than stock as these have the Gen 1 motor which is great for hills (more torque) but not as good as Gen 2 motor with top-end speed.

      • How do you know they have a gen1 motor?

        • +1

Serial number on the motor begins with a 6 for Gen1 motor, 9 for Gen 2

          • @BargainKen: How do you know THESE have gen1 or Gen2?

            • @neirboca: Because I bought one from JB not long ago.

            • @neirboca: These look like Gen 1, because based on the photo, you can see the large charging flap, the Gen 2 have a smaller charging flap, meaning you have you use the AC power adapter for Gen 2, while Gen 1 has the AC power adapter built into the scooter.

        • Don't get hung up on the gen1/gen2 thing… If you really want speed get a different scooter.

  • Stack it with the Telstra/gift card deal and this is a no brainer

    • Wait, what?
      Please explain my man

    • -1

That’s dumb. Yeh u might save a few bucks but it kills ya if u need to get a refund. Scooters can be lemons

  • +1

Still waiting for my one from scootcity :..)
    Ordered in dec lol

    • Even if you ever get it the saving isn't worth it when you consider the warranty hassles you will have, plus try getting second year consumer warranty out of them… JB Hi-fi worth the extra for that alone. Plus of course you'll actually get one :)

  • I have a mate who bought this and then found the ride so uncomfortable he added front and rear after-market suspension but quite a few hundred more.
Could just spend a bit more on a better scooter - Zero, Kaabo or especially E-move.

    • +1

This is what concerns me in getting a Segway with solid "flat-free" tyres over the Xiaomi real pneumtic tyres. I know the hassle to change the Xiaomi is big but is it worth the loss of comfort for the Segway?

And if the 10" tyres on the Max are uncomfortable, I can't imagine what it's like on any of the others with smaller tyres…

      • +1

The max also had pneumatic tyres but no suspension. It's fine on bike paths or roads but painful off-road or shitty footpaths. It's an entry level scooter despite appearing pricey, there's much better but priced accordingly.

      • Tyre difference is the Xiaomi has innertubes while the Max is more like a car tyre. If you do puncture it and it does not heal you can generally plug it.

        • Can anyone provide their feedback on the comfort of one of the smaller Ninebots with the "flat-free" tyres but with added suspension e.g. the E22?

    • They all look quite big. Is there any smaller size scooter that has suspension?

      • I guess they're only relatively smaller, but the Max weighs about 19kg where as the E22 weighs 13.5kg. For a small chic like me, any amount of weight makes a big difference!

EDIT: I meant to reference the Ninebot ES1LD which has suspension and only weighs 11kg.

        • Thanks. The Ninebot ES1LD looks good. But no back wheel suspension I guess.

    Seeing more escooters in Sydney

  • Can I do ubereats with this?

    • Maybe three trips. Range isn't great and this is the best of the lot.

      • isnt range like 50k mor 60km's, more than enough!!

        • For someone 70kg, on flat roads, cruising (not stop starting) and at ideal temps.

  • Anyone know if these have the Gen1 or Gen2 motor?
Apparently the motor will have a 6 or 9 in front of Gen1 or Gen2 respectively.

    • +2

Almost certainly "gen1" … so better torque for hills.

      • Why gen1? Gen2 has been out for over a year. Would want Gen2.

        • lol. Gen 2 allows the scooter to hold its 30kmh speed at a lower voltage and the slight expense of torque. At our legal speeds of 25kmh you'd would see no difference. Gen 2 does lose it speed, they all do, but it lose its speed from a higher starting point. If speed matters so much just buy a fast scooter, these are super slow when you compare them to Vsett or other dual motor.

          • @Pobman: Just went in and the display one had a 6 in front. How can it hold a higher speed with less torque?
I'm on the fence with it atm and would use it as an alternative to a 6km commute to work. Gen2 sounds more linear for regular usage. Any other good alternatives at around the $1000 mark?

            • @neirboca: The 6 and the 9 have different windings internally, there are photos around on the net. At the same battery voltage the 9 will have a higher top speed, I believe they can hit 37-39kmh max while the 6 will hit 31-33kmh max. So the 9 still drops if you consider 37kmh at its starting point, its just it keeps above the 30kmh USA speed. All scooter batteries voltage drop as you use them, and thus the top speed always falls.

Winding the motor for speed results in marginally less torque. Really though this matter gets far too much attention. If you are riding it at Australian legal speeds its going to me approximately 0 different. If you unlock it to 30kmh its going to make a marginal difference as the gen 1 is going to drop to 27/28kmh after the first 10km of riding or so. Anybody who is that insistent on speed would do well to go ride a dual motor because while everyone on the Max groups is arguing over 2 or 3 kmh a dual motor will be properly faster. Have a got on a 10x, or Vsett 10+ when they land in Australia, or even jump on a Jubel or eMove Crusier (which are 48v single motors) and you will see its another league.

For $799 I don't know of anything that touches a Max, for lighter weight the $699 Pro 2 offer is also good but the ride is notwhere near what you get on a Max. Some people might suggest Dragon, but the build quality isnt quite there and the warranty compared with what JB Hifi offer is pitiful. At $1200 I'd probably spend a bit more and buy something else, but at $799 if it fits your needs then I doubt you can do better at the moment.

            • @neirboca:

How can it hold a higher speed with less torque?

Because the ability of a motor is measured in both Torque and Power which have different effects.
Torque is about ability to move mass, Power is usually associated with higher speed. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the simple version.

        • You can buy the Gen 2 motor after and install, its quite easy

Segway have it for $120USD but you'll need to get it shipped to Aus via one of the forward shipping companies

          https://store.segway.com/wheel-hub-motor-assembly-g30

For the marginal difference it makes not sure its even worth it TBH but it is an option.

    • +1

Oz stock is pretty much Gen 1, the Gen 2 motor is mostly sold in the US market - also denoted by the model G30P. This is the G30/G30D

Refer to the wiki for all the Max variants out on the market as its quite confusing at first.

Any front bag recommendations that don't block the light on the max?

Looks like most designed for xiaomis which have the lights higher. Looking at this one for example where the top straps don't look too long.

    • +1

I think those do fit, with the top straps out fully. I ended up getting one of those backpacks with 2L of water in it, a Camelbak clone, as it solved several problems in one go.

  • After a lot of online research… I really thought this was the scooter for me.

Everything seems good except, this is a BEAST. Which is only a problem when it's not in use.

Is there anything nearly as good, as cheap, as reliable… but a bit more compact to fold and carry?

    • Xiaomi pro 2 or ninebot e45/e25 with additional battery pack

    • Segway Max G30LP model perhaps, its available through the 20% sale on eBay at the moment.. I mean I wouldn't downgrade to an LP but it is a bit smaller and lighter, so less range too with the smaller battery… Pro 2 when at $699 probably closest, but fixing those punctures people complain about might become tedious quickly :) With the Max you can just plug the tyre.

      • If I got the right model, there is hardly any difference in dimensions (including folding) with the Xiaomi Pro? 3kg lighter though?

        https://envyride.com/segway-ninebot-max-vs-xiaomi-pro/

The E25 probably looks like the only design with any significant difference in both folding and weight (14.4kg). 25km range.

        https://www.electrickicks.com.au/blogs/e-scooter-life/segway…

The main thing is I want to take it to libraries, bring inside supermarkets etc., a bit inconspicuously.

        • E45 has some suspension, never been on one but it might make it closer to the air filled tyres on the Pro/Max.

Id say in general though a shop thats ok with you taking in an E45 will be equally ok with a Max, neither is inconspicuous … it would be more about what you can lug up stairs. I have a couple of Reid E4 with solid tyres as well and the ride is way less comfortable than the Max, but equally I have no real issue in riding them.

          • @Pobman: Fair enough.

I guess my main concern is the physical size and not me carrying it…

I would be happy to wheel it anywhere, supermarkets etc. as long as I can get away with it. I really just want to wheel it in to grab some quick groceries etc. Really wanted to take it to the library and just chuck it under the desk. The max will take up the feet of three library desks ;)

I know outdoor cafes will be fine - they have dogs etc. and all the rest. Not sure about indoors though, supermarkets, libraries etc…

            • @lowballed: Go down to the library and ask them… ultimately its not that different to a pram, but then equally people don't push bikes through shops… some places will be ok, others not.

              • @Pobman: Depend on where you live. I’ve seen people with bikes and scooters inside shops :). If I left an escooter outside my shops it wouldn’t be there when I get back!

                • @rmk: Brissy :)

                  What do you ride?

Exactly - hence the reason for not leaving it outside. I've seen some bikes in gyms too which is promising.

  • anyone know when the sale end?

    • +1

      Says 24th March.

  • I'm finding conflicting info on the hill climb %. Some sites state 15% some state 20% Which is it?

    • 20% is the correct specs.

      • thanks :)
