$214.20 + delivery seems like a good price for this 8TB WD Elements Desktop USB. Cheaper than most of the recent offerings.

  • How does $26.78 per TB (+ delivery) compare to the larger drives that have recently been offered?

    • +2

You can also get a 12TB for $292 which is $24.333 per TB.

And, it's cheaper to sign up for 1 months of Amazon Prime than it is to pay for International shipping. Never pay shipping if buying from Amazon global — just activate your Prime Trial or membership.

  • is it usb plug in or need power adapter as well?

    • Desktop Backup drives always need Ac power

  • If I remove the case can I insert it into a HDD docking station? For example something like https://www.pccasegear.com/products/34855/orico-4-bay-usb-3-…

Keen to use it for my mediaplayer.

    • Yes, you can. Just make sure you test it first before you pry it open

      • Cool, thanks

      • What do you recommend to test?

How long would it take in an 8TB drive?

        Thanks

        • I can't remember what software I used (I did this back in 2018 with 10TB drives I bought) - but I think it may have been the one from WD itself. You can try running WD LifeGuard. These tests do take a long time - I ran mine overnight.

You may also want to ensure airflow to prevent the drive from getting too hot when running this. I just placed mine above my desktop, with the top exhaust fans of the desktop blowing up air through the bottom vents of the drive case.
