Both.
They use a similar motor and tech to the Dyson vacuum cleaners.
They use PID controller to regulate temperature so it never burns you and the motor is magnitudes quieter than a conventional hairdryer.
Just as Dyson stick vacuums are somewhat expensive, this dryer is also engineered much better than a conventional one.
I bought one shortly after release. Our whole family uses it daily so it was worthwhile.
It's light enough and easy enough for the kids to use it to dry their own hair, without the fear of burning or hair getting caught in the fan bladesAlso to add (Didn't notice this until a hairdresser friend pointed it out to me) - The motor/mechanics are in the handle, right in the 'centre of gravity' of your hand so to speak, so it feels weightless. Hairdressers love them because they mean no RSI after long sessions.
Yes this is important as it means it's not top heavy so easier to use by my kids.
Also magnetic arrangements are cool too
I used this before and it is great. Very different to traditional hair dryer. Instead of cheap hair dryer that blow high temperature hair with low air flow (and uneven temperature airflow), the dyson blows consistent temperature at high speed, and dries hair a lot quicker. I used a VS professional in the past which has similar performance but about 50% heavier, and with the weight distributed mainly on the top like holding a hammer. The Dyson instead placed its motor at the bottom of the stem which has a lot less strain on the wrist, If you have a lot of hair, the Dyson is worth it.
This thing is mutton dressed as lamb. Not worth the coin.
AvE tear down and why..

Educate me, please - I'm unsure why these are so expensive. Do they perform better or do they do something different/last longer - to a conventional one? Like the one you linked?
