1651

Sub $1,000 5G phones are always great. Seems like Officeworks are doing a better price than BecexTech and Good guys to avoid a price match.
This is the dual sim model

        Dual nano.
Unfortunately no replacement for Google Pay. I just bring my wallet all the time.

  • Why would you torture yourself with ugly software, no play services and an overrated camera for 1k? A Poco F2 Pro for half the price will do everything and more.

    • +1

      Poco what?

      • F2 Pro

        • F2 what?

          • @DevlicK: Pro.

But I like to know what these "will do more" are thought.

        • F2 pro what?

    • Where you getting a F2 Pro for half the price? I can only find eBay one for $699.

    • +1

Poco X3 NFC 128GB starts at $320 delivered.

  • I am a big fan of Huawei phone specs and camera.
The onky thi g holding me back is YT MUSIC and android auto. How do i use YT music and Android auto on p40 pro?

    • +1

If you got google framework then yes. For apps dont need google framework, APK pure could do the job.

My p40 pro got google installed, two things not working well:

      push notification for Gmail is no always up to date;
no Google Pay or commonbank tap pay.

Other than these two, everything works smoothly.

      • Can you point me to the right YouTube link to install the google services pls. There r heaps of them, don't know which is the right one. TIA
Planning to buy one for wife, mostly be using for calls, messages, Whatsapp, facebook, instagram, google maps, Dji fly, Bank app not for tap pay, google photos

        • Sorry i can't recall the details.

Try to find a guide telling you possibly downgrade EMUI to a right version, then use G Suite installer to install all google Apps. Then upgrade the system.

This is just an once off action.
I did this at the first day for a couple of hours. No issues since then. System has been upgraded a couple of times.

      • push notification for Gmail is no always up to date

I have a Mate 20 Pro with google apps and gmail notifications are still a bit crap. Sometimes delayed, and sometimes comes up when nothing new has arrived.
But to be fair, I tried a pixel 5 and that wasn't perfect either. Still a bit delayed sometimes

  • can i use bank app in this non-andriod phone?

    • I want to know as well, i'm concerned about using bank apps on it. Can it be hacked easier?

    • yes but without tap & pay.

Technically this is still android phone with no google framework. So just install bank apps from APKpure.
Huawei got official updates for security regularly.

  • +7

    Hahaha. No.

No google play? Some random ass app store no thanks.

Surely a deal breaker for most.

    • +3

Read that you can install virtual machine and from there, install Google related software.

I just find it hard to justify paying more than $700 got a phone, flag ship or not. Really curious under what circumstances one really needs all the bells and whistles..

  • +6

Great price for such a nice phone, I don't care whether it has GMS or not.

  • What is the point of a $1k android phone without Google app.

    • +2

It's a great hardware but not worth the hassle.

    • -2

Haha yeah. Jokes on Apple. I wonder if they even sell any phones.

      • -1

Maybe because iPhone isn't an Android phone?

        • -2

Really? My point is Google apps aren't important to everyone. This is proven by the fact this phone still sells. What google app to you find that is critical to have?

          • @4agte: When the guy you are responding to specifically mentioned Android phone but let's push your own religion.

            Why not.

You do realised people who uses Android rarely will go iPhone. Thus you mentioning Apple, Android users Do. Not. Care.

            • -1

@PuppieWayne: What am I pushing? iPhone4 I used to own. My last 3 phones LG v30+, realme x3, oneplus 7T pro.

As I said google apps aren't important to all whether they be an android or iphone user

              Do. Not. Care.
That is not how the KFC ad goes. Puppies make sense now. You talk like a child

                @4agte:

                android phone without Google app.

Show me where someone asked about iPhone?

                What a stupid retard.

I talk like a child to try and bring myself down to your IQ, obviously I'm failing and can't go that low. Gratz.

                • -1

@PuppieWayne: Do you have a intellectual disability? Do you drop the word spastic as well? If you have to talk like that, you have already lost

                  • @4agte: If you have to bring iOS into every discussion about Android, not only have you already lost but you are a retard.

Apple fanboy, can't shut them up.

                    • @PuppieWayne: Are you broken?

Again I use Android phones. The last Apple I used was an iPhone4 back in 2010.

My last 3 phones LG v30+, realme x3, oneplus 7T pro.

                      I didn't mention any OS

If you have to bring iOS into every discussion

All this information is in the above posts. You would know this if you read what I wrote instead of running your mouth like a child. I'm a little lost why you are trying to pick an argument that doesn't exist but I will make it easy for you by not replying further.

I would suggest you stop using a derogatory and offensive terms like retarded.I would educate you why but since you're so smart I'm sure you can work it out yourself.

                            How refreshing.

Better specs than iPhone 12 Pro.

  • +2

this is cheaper than the Telstra deal i had few months back where i paid $400 upfront and stuck with a 12 month contract. this phone is amazing, only took me 30 minutes to load Google play onto it and get on with life, Google pay Doesn't work, Netflix doesn't work but everything else Google Maps, Gmail, ANZ, Google drive, Whatsapp worked flawlessly on my P40 Pro. you just have to youtube on how-to do it.

the only annoying this is the limited supply of good quality Phone cases for it, i had spent over $100 on 5 different phone cases before i found one that i'm truly happy with.

    • What app do you use to replace Google pay? Is there an equivalent huawei pay?

      • Edit: actually i'm not sure whether Huawei pay works or not… haven't try it out, been relying on the Smart watch for all NFC payments.

Huawei pay don't work in Australia, i use my Garmin watch to replace it at the moment.

    • Which case did you settle on?

    • buy case on aliexpress. cheap and plenty of option

  • Any recommendation on $1k 4G phone with good camera? Need to upgrade from Samsung A70.

    • -3

      P40 Pro. come'on dude!

      • +2

sorry, need one with Google Play store support.

        • wait for sales for the s20FE
or wait for the s21FE for further price drops

Thats a lot of phone for the money!

They ban our products then why we don't ban their products? It is shame I can see lot's of Chinese cars on the road more and more. Look what happens now in Taiwan.

    • +1

      Aussie beef

    • +2

They definitely did not ban baby formula

      • +2

        or Iron ore…

    • +2

Because China has alternatives, Australia doesn't. They import barley from the US, wine from Span and France, and lobster from New Zealand. Sure, all these countries have the same values and support Australia politically, but are actually happy and quietly enjoying the outcome of these bans.

      • +4

That's fine, that opens up more opportunities for us to export to the countries that the US, Spain, France and NZ are no longer exporting these products too… China are not the only consumers in the world.
The more other countries we trade with, the less reliant we are on China and can flip them the bird in the future when they act like assholes…

        • Good idea. Meanwhile, China is flipping Australia the bird now, at least from their perspective.

By the way, "the US, Spain, France and NZ are no longer exporting these products too" why would they do that? I have never seen any business would voluntarily give up its market share to its competitors.

    • +3

Wait a sec, Australia banned Huawei 5G a while ago right? Way before wine/seafood etc ban.

    • +3

We ban Huawei 5G. This is all related to politics. Racism prohibits Chinese products. Chinese people still like Australian products. The Taiwanese government doesn't like China, so they don't interact with China. This is also a political operation. Chinese people like Taiwanese. Stupid people will be manipulated by politicians.

      • I heard from one of my wife's friends that there are 1 million Taiwanese living within China. Weird love-hate relation.

        • +3

despite the civil war in the 40s, mainlanders, including the party leaders still call Taiwanese brothers, but they call the mainlanders the enemies…Those 1 million Taiwanese are sick of the political narratives.

  • such good price
just bought one on ebay for $80 more

    • -1

      No google play why buy?

      • +1

        Because it's better?

        • No software support not enough apps if just because of camera better why not just buy a camera.

          • @superforever: Not just the camera. I have been using Galaxy s6 8 9+ then switched to Huawei mate 20pro now p40 pro.
They are better everywhere except the screen.

            • @JavaTheDog: So you sideload all the apps you needed? How about updates?

              • @superforever: Nah I got google installed in my p40 pro. The whole installation was just 2 - 3 hours depends on your internet.
For apps, they will be updated in play store.
For security, Huawei updated EMUI a few times already for new features, security patches etc.

          • +1

@superforever: I don't think many would want to carry a camera around the whole time. Considering another phone with a great camera would be a better alternative.

            • +1

@4agte: Agree. After the first week I switched from s9+ to mate 20 pro, I sold my Nikon d3300 and my powerbank. Never need them since then.

      • installed google myself, good camera, good looking, good price

  • If you're willing to mess around, you could definitely get 80% of the functionality of Android (no idea if that does anything to the warranty). That being said, when you're spending this much on a phone, you expect everything to work. Absolutely no idea why they thought that an ugly pill cutout was acceptable.

  • +1

Any chance to get full Google Services compatibility with custom ROMs?

    • You'd be better off installing something like Aurora Store.

  • +1

so many +votes but has anyone actually bought this?

    • I bet no body really know or heard directly from this company either, apart from what was reported from the media and western governments.

Have found this, apparently more series will be released as the director intend to interview 100 employees in Huawei - for anyone who's interested.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeXIFmzfgzM

      • Even so, what about officeworks?

      • +1

actually, the US did the same sanctioned Toshiba at its prime and more recently a french company. The US do not want any company from another country to be able to dominate a market and not be able to have control and make money.

  • Is this out of stock? can't find it anywhere and the amazon link is not $998.

  • All gone.

  • Individual Good Guys can price match..
    I hold two from them

  • +1

anywhere still has it for 998?
