I had been looking for a wake-up light to fix my circadian rhythm but figured it may be due to being disciplined so I'm giving this a pass and work on this. This is a pretty good deal seeing prices of these going in the hundreds.

how is the idea of this or the Phillips one any different to using a smart bulb in the bedroom and using that to wake up@
if the light bulb can be programmed to turn on by itself and gradually change color and brightness, then you have the same thing, though you need to combine it with an alarm clock.
The Philips I have gives you an option to hear bird sounds as your alarm clock, to help with the illusion but that doesn't work either. I either mistake it for real bird noises outside, or it's just not loud enough to jerk me awake.
I use a Lifx light to turn on slowly in the morning, works like a treat!
I'm not trying to be snarky or anything, but why not open the curtain, isn't this mimicking the same thing?
The idea is that the gradually brightening light wakes you up. You can't open the curtain until after you are awake. These wake up lights are to replace an alarm so you wake up more gently.
That's interesting. I wonder if they have done any study on this over a big pool of people to investigate how they feel from this gradual brightening compared to normal. Would like to see the results of their wellbeing from a large sample size.

Because you may not be wanting to wake up at actual dawn time, which changes every day.
If you're someone who wakes up at 3AM, this isn't possible. The light simulates a dawn. If the time you need to wake up is exactly dawn, sure go for it. Presuming your window is facing the right direction. Mine faces a double story house and a carport and is under permanent darkness, day or night. I need the light on even during mid day.
Does this app work with generic or other brand bulbs?
Got a few bedside smart bulbs from HN, work with connect smart home and Google home.Still hard to get a proper effect or scene going easily like a sunrise clock , or the phone screen even.. just want it to be gradually increasing from Orange to yellow, and come on before my actual alarm. Guess have to set lights separately
Great in winter to wake up
The Kogan app is just a rebranded version of the Tuya Smart app. So it will work with any of the Tuya apps (e.g. Smart Life). This can be linked to Google Home to enable control from Google Assistant. But be aware you can only turn the light on and off from Google. If you want to set it as a wake up light you have to use the Tuya app.
Yeah i meant the Lifx app - you can't use that without Lifx bulbs.
The google voice commands are fine for the lights (tuya supported by default), including on/off, change colours and percentages.I've stuffed around with scenes and it's extremely clunky and unusable, have to repeat of each light, no smarts about it.
I have the Philips version which this Kogan ripped off.
I paid about $200 for mine. I don't recommend it. It doesn't even work. The light will begin before you wake up to simulate dawn, but I never even notice it until the actual alarm goes off. It has not improved my sleep or made it easier to wake up. It's just a normal alarm clock. It's function of waking you up naturally by making your body think it's dawn… does not work on me. Maybe YMMV.
It would be nice if it had smart features so you can have wider customization from your phone also.
I purchased one for $49 some time ago. I would not recommend, at any price. I ended up throwing it away.
After about 12 months whenever the light exceeded a certain brightness, it would turn off. So it would start its wake up cycle and get gradually brighter. But before it reached maximum brightness at the set time, it would just turn off. Same thing happened if I manually turned the light on, it would just turn off again.
Even when it did work, it wasn't great. You cannot set a wake up light without an audible alarm. I ended up taking it apart and disconnecting the speaker's internal wiring in order to disable the alarm sounds. The light is not very gradual either - there is a noticeable step change every minute during the wakeup cycle. The Philips ones are very gradual and much less jarring.
