can you have a existing citi credit card and get points?

    • In particular the ole no annual fee for life Citi signature card (the ozb favourite).

  • A good deal?

  • Wow massive.

  • How much are Velocity points worth these days on the open market?

    • -2

If you were going to buy points directly, 100,000 would cost you $2,340

    • +1

You can get $400 worth of Bunnings vouchers with a bit left over (87,200 points).

      • +2

        This.
I got rid of all my Virgin points for vouchers last year.

      • Seems like a lot of effort to end up with a net result of appx $300?

    • 100,000 velocity points are equal to 200,000 flybuys points

      200,000 flybuys are worth $1000 coles/target spend.

      • is the conversion pts from velocity to flybuys confirm?
Sorry… not familiar with velocity… I only do Qantas pts.

if the conversion correct still worth $900 of groceries….

      • Equal to 200,000 flybuys points, but I don't think you transfer Velocity points into Fly Buys.

        • I think you're right.
I thought i did manage to do it prior to covid, but i may be wrong.
Still they're worth a fair bit given 200,000 points are worth $1000.

IF in future they allows points to be transfer to Krisflyer this would be even more valuable.

    • Also if they resumed allowing redeeming points for flights to IOT (Cocos keeling + Christmas island). Without IOT flights, and without Krisflyer transfers, Velocity is a far weaker rewards program than Qantas, because there is no unique value proposition. In Venn diagram terms, flights you can book with Velocity points at the moment are basically just a tiny subset of flights you can book with Qantas points. So every time I have a choice between the two, I always find myself thinking "why would you choose Velocity points, when they've explicitly deliberately removed the 2 most useful flight features, and every other flight they offer I can already do with Qantas points?"

      • Oh Christmas Island! Is that the one with all the crabs?

        • It is! Apparently October to Nov is crab migration season.
And Cocos are remote coral atolls, so I presume they'd make a great laid back beach / snorkelling destination.
Both sound quite interesting, different, and far enough away that getting there from the east coast involves 9.5 hours of flying each way, so I imagine it would feel like you were travelling internationally, even though you weren't.
So to me they were a great use of points with closed international borders, hence my annoyance when velocity stopped offering rewards redemptions for these destinations and only these destinations.

          • @nickj: So Qantas doesn't offer these destinations in their network?

            • @nightelves: Nope, it's only virgin, and only from Perth. They fly there twice a week.

              • @nickj: Oh ok interesting did not know about this. Do you know how many points was required for one-way?

Not so good for earning points with spend ?

Earn 1 Citi reward Point per dollar on Eligible Transactions

Earn Citi reward Points on all Eligible Transactions and redeem them for Velocity Points, digital gift cards and more.

With 2.5 Citi reward Points converting into 1 Velocity Point

Focus on spending $3,000, then focus on moving to the next signup bonus.

Is the no annual fee signature still available?

    • no . Tip you can do a family transfer of citirewards points from platinum to the premier card latter on by writing letter so then you get a better converting ratio into Velocity Points

      • So can you transfer Signature points to Premier as well? Is the conversion significant better or only slighthly?

  • Applied in the morning, just got approved.
    Credit card number 5.

    • Can I ask are you checking to see if there's a close date in the credit report before applying for a new cc or once you close you wait a few days before applying for a new one?

    • 5 for the year? Not a bad effort.

  • Can this card be added to google pay after being approved for immediate use?

    • I don't think you can. Won't you need the expiry and the 3 numbers at the back?

      • I know Westpac has a digital card which you can add to GPay immediately

      • Bummer. Havnt used a physical credit card in years…havnt needed to carry a wallet apart from when I need ID!

    • I think Westpac offers a digital card after full approval and I know NAB will allow you to do Tap and pay transactions right away with NAB pay. I dont think Citi cards do it.

  • Hey txb, no Citi cards aren't available for immediate use. Please also note that they are not compatible with Google Pay yet - Apple Pay and Samsung Pay only.

    • Thanks for confirming

I can't see anything about the usual "bonus points only available to customers who have not held a Rewards CC with Citi in the last 12 months etc.".
    Am I missing it?

I only just closed this a month or two ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/563405
Normally Rewards CC's and Frequent Flyer CC's don't impact each other's cool downs, but in this case Citi calls them both "Rewards".
If I apply, am I still eligible for the bonus points?

    • Am keen to know if this is available to anyone who have held or still holding existing CB credit cards

    • No cool down with Citibank. So apply away.

  • Definitely keen on this after seeing it, been a while since I’ve signed up for a CC points promo. Might just spend on Coles and Woolworths gift cards to make up the $3K as I doubt I’ll spend that much in three months anyway. Thanks OP!

Seems it’s valid till June 30, not bad.

  • Just applied and uploaded a payslip, now the waiting game

  • I just got approved , how do I give them my velocity number as it wasn’t in the application?

    • Hunt around for it online (not on the app) and there is a section to add it.

    • +2

I called them about that. After spending and paying the off $3k+, they'll email you for your velocity number to transfer the points. There's also the rewards section of the card where you can transfer your citi points to kris flyer, velocity etc.

  • Anyone know if bpay payment count towards spend?

  • Just applied - first bonus points on a Velocity card since Feb 19

  • Might want to update to not expired
