  • Much less than before?

I remember there was 100,000 points when you open an explorer Amex card

    • This is for the Platinum Edge which has always been 50k think you’re getting the two confuse.

    • Yeah, and the Explorer's annual fee is twice that of the Platinum Edge …

  • Those on plat edge will likely get the upgrade option to explorer card

Plus, for a limited time, enjoy 60,000 Bonus Points and $200 Back when you apply for an upgrade by 15 March 2021 and spend $3,000 in the first three months³.

    • Where’s the link for that and will you be entitled to the 60k as part of the upgrade as well?

      • Check your email likely see something targeted to you soon

Platinum Edge was never that high. Amex has gone onto my churn list now. The golden days of Amex have long gone.

    • +1

Agree, the screen cover is a good addition, but the way they halved the points value not that great of a card anymore

      • +3

Totally agree, I missed the days when it had a free Virgin flight every year and the best combo ever Plat Edge + Explorer = 2 pts per $1 spend on everything.

        • Yeah that was good. Canned my combo after they did their 'points improvement'. Sent it to the graveyard they did

        • +1

yeah loved it too, a free trip every 2 years for me and my wife from Perth, i remember we went to Broome and Brisbane during 4 years we had the card, stopped using it 1 year after they increased the annual fee to $199.

    • Totally agree.. I am looking to move on from Amex after spending the Travel Credits.

      • I find that's what keeps you holding this card.
I've just booked a Qantas flight with the $450 Qantas bonus on my wife's card and will cancel the card and the booking this week. Qantas has just announced if you cancel a booking made on or before 28/02 will have the flight credit extended until December 2023! Can't get better than that.

        • Great tip - thanks! I too just redeemed two $450 credits and enquired about cancelling to get the Dec-2023 voucher … but there's a $99 change fee that applies when you redeem the credit voucher. If I had been able to book direct with Qantas this fee is only $10.

    • What did you guys do with the reward points before cancelling?

      • Qantas points just went into the Qantas pool & MR points went to Asiamiles to top out our next RTW trips.

    • Could you recommend a rewards credit card that is better than this Amex one?

  • I only got 40,000 points

    • That's the upgrade offer. It's less than a new member offer.

  • I am wondering when Amex Au offers a card that has no FX fee, most of the US Amex cards don't charge fx fee on oversea spends.

    • +1

My debit visa refunds FX fee end of each month and it's not even a credit card. Agree None of them should charge it it's a rubbish charge

  • If my friend using the same card refers me, do I get the referee bonus point or this 50000 points? Does any one knows if you could get both of these bonus points?

    • -1

Why don’t you just click on of the randomise referral on here and find out.

  • I got offered an upgrade to Explorer. Worth the switch? I'm coming from Westpac Amex.

    • +1

I would get this first so you get the 50k then upgrade to the Explorer so you also pocket the 60k as well.

  • +1

Can I qualify for this if I hold an existing david Jones amex card?

    • +1

Yes you qualify. DJs has a different rewards system that has it's own exclusion period.

  • This is a cracking deal. But I might keep my powder dry for the Explorer.

  • This deal ends on the 5th of April, my 18 months hiatus from Amex finishes on the 4th of April. So if I apply on the 5th (public holiday) it probably won't get approved until the next business day which is the 6th, so I wonder if the bonus will still apply for me?

Also the $195 back, does that mean I won't have to pay the annual fee and just wait for the cash back to cover it or do I have to pay that first otherwise the bonuses won't apply?
