      You getting AutoMAD?

    • Yep welcome to software “subscription model”. It’s happening everywhere. Software makers are living it up these days.

Even Microsoft office is subscription now, but a lot less. Businesses pay Autodesk happily. My work does the same with Altium.

      • Just the cost of doing business. If the product either saves you money or makes you money, it has value. And I imagine if you need Autocad, it's very likely making you money.. 😂

        • Yeah when building plans seem to start at about 5k and can get in excess of 50k for some houses then I don't think $2400 for Autocad is too bad.

          • @donkcat: sounds like an easy job for you, just need AutoCAD to get the plans done.

            • @Arch9896: Once you get to big tier companies it’s charged per hour, think it’s like $10 or something from memory. I’m at a mid tier so we pay the subscription fees, but with million dollar high ways we do it doesn’t really matter the sub price.

If I was doing free lance work it would for sure though 😂

        • While I understand and agree with all the replies to this, mostly that it's a small cost but provides a lot of value, I guess the point I was making was that this model is new. It wasn't long ago that businesses, who do the same as now, and charge relatively just as much, could buy AutoCAD for $5k for a perpetual licence. Buy once, use for 5 years then pay Autodesk something to upgrade to the next version. Anyway it seems to work for all involved.

      • Its just the new model of Software as a Service (SaaS).

Companies are doing it under the guise of free updates/cloud backups/ease of use blah blah blah.

But its mostly about vendor lock-in, always on connections (or regular verification), harvesting user data, and preventing "piracy".

  • Hi Op, how much for Powermill 3Axis Standard?

  • Don’t forget 6.3% cashback from Shopback or Cashrewards

  • As someone who could use AutoCAD/Revit but not day in/out, the pricing tells me to go with the far cheaper options. Just providing some feedback but they are the best in the game products.

    • Let me know if you’re interested in an alternative

  • You’re better of getting the full version of AutoCAD, the LT version has a lot of handy features missing.
