Includes a year worth of updates. Might be worth it if you have an older model that still functions yet don't wish to buy a new unit.
Says a year of updates although I've been lead to believe on whirlpool and other forums that this is one new map, rehashed four times

It's more cost effective to buy a new TomTom. Assuming you could always pick up maps for $75 for 3 years, that's $225. Spend under $150 get a new unit and map upgrades for 3 years free (current offer).
Yes, and you get the better features of the newer model and a fresh battery.
I don't know what they're thinking - you can buy a paper map book for what $40? An electronic map costs them nothing to 'print' off another copy so should be cheaper than a paper book. If they made it that cheap most people would buy it every year, instead I reckon most people don't buy it for the life of the device.
In my opinion, what they are thinking is exactly what you guys said:
If you can buy a new GPS with map upgrades for cheaper, why not just buy a new one?In an example scenario where everyone had a GPS, they would be selling more GPS units again. Generally GPS units could last a long time, and most people don't really need the latest updates to their maps. By offering newer maps and free upgrades, it causes people to impulse buy new units.
And regarding the battery issue, you can still use it right? If you're in the car, you just keep it plugged in to the cig charger?
Still too expensive isn't it? When it's $25 a year I might consider it. My TomTom is only a few years old and the battery is knackered.
