Juice Defender Plus $0.99, 50% off

40

This app is amazing if you're using the Samsung Galaxy S2. I went from recharging every 8-10 hours, to charging once every 3 days; average usage being 5 calls, 15 texts and an hour of webbrowsing (wifi, not 3G) on the free version. The upgrade most likely will not dramatically enhance battery performance but the option is there if you feel its worth it.

Also, first post, sorry if duplicate - searched but couldn't find it.

  • Sweet. I have the free version and have been wanting to upgrade to the full. Cheers :)

  • What's the difference between this and the free version?

Note - This isn't the "FULL" version. Juice Defender Ultimate is the full version.

I found that the battery saved just wasn't worth it. There are simple tricks and widgets that do almost everything that actually saves enough battery that you would notice. For example: Pulling the notification bar down slightly then moving to the left lowers the brightness, and moving to the right increases the brightness.

The app definitely works, but it's not as good as people make it out to be. It saves around 4% battery to maybe 6% if your lucky.

    • To auna — thanks for the very cool tip. Any others you can share?

  • I found it took more 'juice' to run juice defender than it saved. I ran juice defender plus for a few weeks and found the only bits I were using (that seemed to save battery) were the night time settings and the wifi location suff which was flaky at best. I uninstalled juice defender and replaced it with timeriffic (free) for the night time schedule and Y5 (also free) for the location wifi stuff and my battery has improved even more.

A good saving for the app, but I don't think it is 'all that' to begin with

  • Well I have found it (Ultimate) increased battery life from 8hrs of what i'd call moderate usage to 14hrs. So that's a 75% improvement. Not sure Ultimate is worth the extra cash but the basic app is definitely worht it. I've got an HTC HD2 flashed with Coredroid NAND Rom which is relatively easy on battery life to start with. I've also used SetCPU but found this a little better. Maybe i didn't have the settings perfect with SetCPU?
Do yourself a favour and spend the measely 0.99c and even if it only gives you an extra hour, i think it's worth it.

Ah so you have rooted your HD2 (It's a Windows phone originally) and you underclock the CPU. I imagine the battery saved doing that would be substantial.

What are you doing on your S2 to get 8 hours battery life??

Do yourself a favour and download BetterBatteryStats to find out what programs are preventing your phone from sleeping.

Every other power saving measure should be relatively obvious to you, such as lowering screen brightness.

    Here's some other tips:
    - use a black wallpaper - very effective with SAMOLED
    - disable push notifications/syncing - big drainer
    - disable gps/location services
    - disable 3G - this will increase standby time significantly - however I leave it on and still get about 2 days of use
    - use wifi for Internet if possible - wifi consumes about half the power of a 3G data connection

A widget/switch comes in handy for switching a lot of these things on/off for when you actually need to use them.

Even on stock ROM you should easily get over a day of usage on the normal battery. I wouldn't waste time with Juice Defender… it seems to consume more battery than it saves (if any).

You can also try upgrading to the Samsung 2000mAh extended battery for $39. This will give you 20-30% more battery life, whilst only making the phone about 1mm thicker.

Then if you're still keen, root your phone and install a custom ROM and kernel. I'm running CheckRom v4 and Siyahkernel 2.6.1. Check the xda forums.

"I wouldn't waste time with Juice Defender… it seems to consume more battery than it saves (if any)."

Disagree at this point. I work a 12hr night shift and generally my battery goes from 80% to 45% within that shift. Tonight it's gone from 74% to 56% with juice defender. Hard to tell from one night but if anything I believe I've used my phone MORE than usual as opposed to less. We'll see after a few more shifts, though.
