  • Pretty sure its 3 months for free anyway

It was last Black Friday. 1 month now. And still a trash selection of trash.

      • +1

Yes. Gotta block the News Corp publications.

        • Yep. But News Corp publications are the only Australian media onboard with News+ as far as I can tell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I unblocked herald sun from my Facebook feed just to watch The 28 Year Old Male rip it down on every post.

    • +1

and now there's no Herald Sun on Facebook at all!

      • Omg lmaoooooooo The 28 Year Old Male did it. That crazy son of a bitch.

Have subscribed before but I’ll give it a go again for the free 2 months. Will see if it has improved at all. Previously the formatting was pretty poor, lots of articles still paywalled for papers included but requiring you to signup to their own plan to get all articles. Lack of publications and not many of the big magazines. Overall wasn’t worth the price.

Keeps getting a Cannot Connect to App Store error when I try to redeem.

    • -5

Funny you have to pay for Apple news who lifts from other sources. We Aussies are charging you for the sources, staring at you Apple hidden behind G&F

      • Uh, that's not how it works.

    • Do it through an iGadget and it should work. (I had a similar error on my laptop)

Maybe use VPN and sign up for 6 months free subscription on Best Buy
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/free-apple-news-for-6-months-ne…

Also has free options for apple plus fitness and music on the page.

I tested it, received the email, the code only works on the apple US store to redeem.( makes you change region) if it’s worth the effort.

    • EasyAs; well worth it for the extra 3 free months I’d suggest … Thanks for putting this out there @CrustyV

US exit-IP via VPN VPN Unlimited works wonders (for those OBer’s on 6 mth free trial); register new Apple ID while logged on via US-VPN; set / update US payment details (requires genuine US address (can be residential / corporate HO for example).

Haven’t done the rest, though sense should be straightforward .
      Good luck !

Works with VPN , then requires mobile code to authenticate best buy account . Need to know someone in US , Canada or Mexico or have legit phone number of those Countries to jump through last hoop .

    • +1

I verified with my email address.

i got a free US number through the textnow app.

  • How does this compare to free Google News? (too much news for too little money;)
Can't you get everything free if you know how to surf the net?

    • Time = money; or so I’m told !

Dedicated free search-resource from Apple looks good to me. I wouldn’t even know where to start hunting down the latest on James Packer / Rupert; let alone latest goss on Rebel’s weight-loss !

Apple seems to Accel itself in it’s quest to ‘Eudonix’ us at the uni of ‘Udemy’

    • Google News kinda sucks after one of their redesigns. No longer able to search for specific news from a certain date, for example.

Apple News never had that sort of thing and kinda sucks too.

But no, the subscription stuff tends to be magazine features that you won't find online without a subscription, or things like News Corp stuff that are paywalled outside of Apple News+ too.

    • I refuse to use any of these services. Curation= censorship.

  • Thanks OP … good deal !

  • Can anyone share a link for this deal? I am pretty sure it is not unique, offers like this one from Apple usually lead to a URL like redeem.apple.com which can be used by anyone.

  • Signed up for the free trial after seeing the woolies email in my inbox.

I was shocked to find out that there are ads embedded within the news app. Big fat banners that make them look like news stories.

One would think that if you’re paying for the service there won’t be any ads.

    • but you are not paying for 3 months so until you actually make a payment, you will see fat wholesome corn fed ads.

      • I read that even for actual subscribers who pay the ads are still there.

  • there's a reason why we feed apple so well we just want Apple to continue to make fat profit.

As long as they aren’t selling user data like Facebook and Google, then Apple have earned their premium imo.

  • Thanks for this, did a search and found the offer in my junk folder.

  • This is included in the $40 a month premier one family sharing plan. Great value if you have five other people willing to pay their share upfront so you don’t have to play debt collector for trivial amounts of money.

  • Here's the link for anyone wanting to know if they're eligible:

    https://exclusive.woolworthsrewards.com.au/AppleNewsPlus?utm…

  • This isn’t expired. Expires 24/3. Not targeted as on their Facebook page. https://exclusive.woolworthsrewards.com.au/AppleNewsPlus

  • Once you subscribe to this trial, don't forget to open the following URL and disable its autorenewal to avoid getting charged in the future:
    https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions

    • If you do it right away, you only get 1 month off the subscription.

You need to set yourself a reminder to do this a couple days before the free period ends and billing begins to take advantage of the offer over the entire period.

      • Sorry mate but that is not true. Enabling or disable the trial has nothing to do with the trial period.

I have disabled autorenewal on mine more than a month ago and still have more than a month left.

Some Apple subscriptions don't allow you to disable autorenewal though (Arcade and TV+).
