      more like ignorance and rudeness…

      • +3

I love how the idea of wanting to retain English as the only language in Australia is now considered racist. Even worse you’re labeled a bigot or some kind of fascist.

        • Since when did i write anything about 'English as the only lanquage in Australia' - you just made it up- thereby proving how rude and ignorant you are , and all those voting for a fictional beatup.

Add bullying to the original rude and ignorant and toss in un-australian, because Australia used to pride itself on being inclusive…. never realised all those immigrants had to only speak english…..

          Learn Chinese

          • @pndl: Learn Tradition Chinese. Not Mao simplified for the masses. Who lifted millions out of poverty by killing millions

            • @Turd: unlike australia who tried to genocide the aboriginals in an effort to make the rich richer, a policy which continues to this day.

              • @petry:

genocide…. a policy which continues to this day

                that's a big call

                • @inamberclad: the so called restoration of equivalent life expectancy hasn't occurred and never will, because australia has unarguably become a valueless country.

                  • @petry: i trust you're doing something about this to bring positive change

                    • @inamberclad: ? well you ain't.

                      • @petry: You bring only complaints and no solutions to the table. You also bring complimentary whataboutism too. I can confidently say you aren't worth my time. I'm out. See you on another thread.

                        • @inamberclad: don't bother - you have nothing to offer 'cept snide excuses.

It's our official language but not our only language. And I think we are richer for it.

The op did rub me the wrong way initially, I can't pinpoint exactly why but I suspect it's because I thought (mistakenly) it was an ad/post solely in a foreign language (insofar as our official language goes). Then eventually figured the op (or original ad, I'm not 100% sure) did provide a translation. I suppose I felt at ease afterwards - that the ad was directed at a particular segment of a diverse market, without being exclusive in the sense of deliberately and disrespectfully ignoring those who can't read Chinese.

I do recall the good old days when we could travel to Japan - if you could speak the local language, even just a little hello, thank you, please… It went a long way opening up doors. And those restaurants that provided a menu/how to eat cards with English on it.. man it made us feel so welcome!

mate we are mostly immigrants - none of us could speak aboriginal.

way to many racists here who are incapable of mentally acknowledging English ain't the native tongue - its just the most widely used because the immigrants tried to wipe out the indigenous people, and still are, and imposed English as the official language.

Racist is the correct term to describe those who struggle with the reality of english speaking people being immigrants and being born here means nothing these days, because your nationality is routinely stripped away by a racist fascist government that respects only money.

We even have a prime minister supposedly overly religious who is indiffferent to rape in the workplace and asserts bizarrely not to have known about what goes in his own government, and who promotes and hires the staff who tidied it away to start with.

Australia officially now has no values, just like America.

Yep, him, Gladys, and all those lib corporate types in the private Chinese restaurant rooms, although they are quite partial to brown paper bags, not cards.

      • add supporting rape to Gladys and all those morally vacuous liberal politicians - no wonder they stabbed good old malcolm in the back - sleaze is an understatement
