People Who Have The New PS5, Hows It Going?

I got a new PS5 and so far I am a bit disappointed that after buying 750 dollar console, I need to pay more to buy games and subscriptions. sucks lol.

hows your experience so far?

I can't hear you over the sound of us having twice as much fun with a way better gaming system for half the cost

        • +5

Enjoy. Some of us have principles.

        • +2

I can't hear you over the sound of all the data about your room and movements being scraped and sent to FB servers. Oh, you have a plant in your room, prepare for watering cans on your fb feed.

And the idea that you need a fb account for Oculus is rediculous.

      • +1

A jailbreak method was found late last year, still waiting to see when it's released.

    • +2

Agree, I got an oculus quest 2 instead after having a Rift previously. It's a whole new level of immersion, haven't played a acreen based game since. Can also play the Rift PC based games wirelessly.
I don't use Facebook, so just created an account and set as many privacy settings as possible.

    • +1

I love my quest, but everything is just a tech demo, nothing held my attention for more than 2-3 hours other than Beat Saber with custom songs. Quest vs PS5 is apples and oranges.

And the Facebook thing is a shocker.

      • Yeah most games are shorter, but there are some full-length AAA games now. Just don't throw away all your PC/consoles just yet.

Still, the excitement around the new consoles is always the expectation of a truly next-gen gaming experience. That's the whole point.

And the Quest 2 actually delivers on that WAY better than the new consoles are.

        (And for less money).

  • Yeah it's great. Faster, quiet, controller is awesome.. Obviously there are a lack of next gen games, but playing the PS4 games on it (coming from my original issue ps4) it's a huge difference.

    • +1

Not sure if there’s a difference to on PS4, but Ratchet & Clank is so sharp & colourful

      • I believe that game has been tweeked to look and play better.

  • +1

    Thanks all for feedback !

    • +1

Get the PS+ sub, play God of War.
That game is amazing, and it is worth the cost of an annual PS+ subscription in my opinion.
And, the next one is hopefully coming out this year.
I haven't bought a PS5 yet, but I will when the new God of War arrives.

  • Fallout 76 is such a pleasure to play now on PS5
You get all the PS+ Collection games and monthly games free, that you may not need to buy a game again
If you haven’t played Fallout 76 before, it’s something you could literally be playing for months

    • Gotcha. Haha love that I can play for months :)

  • +1

Do we lose all free games access when PS plus expires ? Am I right ?

    • +1

yes, but you'll access any of them again when you resubscribe. So you can only add the games that are released each month if you have an active subscription. But when ever you reactivate, you'll get access to any you claimed during your previous subscription period. So you could just subscribe to the months that are interesting. But for most people, buying a yearly membership at around $50-60 is more than worth it for the games bundled in.

It might not be as cheap as gaming can be on pc, but the experience tends to be cleaner.

      • +1

PS+ also gives occasional extra discounts in PS Store sales. Over the course of a year those discounts can go a fair way towards paying for the cost of the subscription.

Although that said, there seem to have been fewer PS+ exclusive discounts lately? Or maybe that's just my perception.

        • Yeah it can. It really depends how much you buy on the store though, generally its still cheaper to buy most major releases on disc.

  • +1

Was going to wait till 2tb version but due to scalpers i had to get one which I did through amazon. It works as advertised but so far only the astro’s playroom wowed me. Other games I’ve tried cyberpunk / black ops were not very optimised and had alot of bugs. Currently playing rdr2 and its better.

The summary is it’s not doing much next gen gaming but i’m happy i have it and is a drop in replacement for ps4 and next gen capable when i need it.

I also managed to sell my ps4 pro for 400 before it lost too much value which is a win

  • +1

    This post is suffering.

  • +1

nothing worth my time personally, unless we see a new naughty dog or Rockstar release

  • I only upgraded for the 120fps in pvp for destiny 2 haha
Needed a portable gaming system as little kids running around & I lost my man cave.

The controller is amazing, but the load times are mint! Such a big different even booting the system. Literally seconds instead of pressing on with ps4.. Walking off haha

    • Currently losing my man cave. I feel your pain!

  • +3

    Had it for 3 months.

    Pros
    + Controller is next-gen
+ Graphics for games optimised for it are amazing
    + Fast, everything is snappy
+ WiFi is awesome, it's fast (not like the PS4, was useless)
+ Space/HDD issues are fixed, on the PS4, even if you had space, it will complain you need more than required
    + Load times
+ See how long you have played a game

    Cons
    - Disc drive is noisy as hell
    - No themes
    - Removed your download history
    - No folders
    - No home customisation which makes it ad central
    - UI headaches (for example, save/upload feature used to be at the game level, now you have to dig deep into the settings to find it)
    - Trohpy list UI/UX is a mess

From purely playing a game POV, it's amazing!

    • Removed your download history

Can you find a list of all your 'purchased' or 'library' games and download from there? Or do you need to remember every PS+ title you've collected?

      • +1

You can go to your library and see everything there (on the console).

      • +1

You can only see your transaction history, but you cannot download from there.

    • Isn't it just loud when you first load a disc? After that, it's pretty quiet.

      • +2

It cycles the disk. So when it's not doing whatever it is doing to the disk, it's quiet. Keep a disc in there and play your digital games. Every so often it revs up like a rocket.

  • Spent 99% of its time in the box. Probably would have used more if Sony invested in decent backwards compatibility. Beat demons souls on ps3 lately so not in a hurry to play the remake just yet.

    • +2

      Wait… PS5 plays virtually all PS4 games without issue…

So you're complaining that you're still playing PS3 games and it doesn't support that? Why would you buy a PS5 if you still haven't caught up to 2013 with the PS4?

      • You misunderstand. The Xbox Series X plays xbox OG, xbox 360 and xbox one games as well as series X titles. The ps5 plays most PS4 and PS5 games only. Not all games are on PS4 and PS5. I have a large catalog of games across all systems (think 250ish ps3 games, 500ish ps2 games, 400+ ps1 games). It would be great if I could play them on a single console besides my gaming PC. Emulation exists on all these platforms already, sony just dont want to invest in it because they cant later resell you titles like the ps2 classics on ps4. Also not hard to charge $120 a game when your options are limited on the ps5.

        • +1

Remember, it's only selected titles that are backward compatible, but a decent range. Xbox has Sony bet here.

        • -4

No one, apart from you, gives a shit about console compatibility from 2 generations ago.

    • sell sell sell sell

  • +2

Last console I bought was a PS3 I think. I ended up selling it because it was impossible to just dive in to gaming without doing a massive update. Is the PS5 any better?

    • +1

      faster for sure.

    • +3

      Last console I bought was a PS3
it was impossible to just dive in to gaming without doing a massive update

      PS4 updates aren't much better…

    • Yeah, much faster! PS3 had the slowest UI I had ever seen.

    • You’ll need a pre-internet gaming console if you just want to play games straight off the disc/cartridge without system updates, game installs and game updates. Although I guess with the Nintendo Switch you can play (some) games straight off the cartridge and not have to worry about updating the system/games since the updates are usually minor tweaks to the game

  • +2

I kinda hate the haptic triggers. Besides Astro no game has used it well and am worried they will break the triggers one day. I've already had to return one controller because I got the drifting issue.

    • interesting. Astro game uses it beautifully

  • +1

    :(

Ask my kids. They have taken over.

  • +3

I would wait for a slim PS5. Just wayyy to expensive at the moment and too bulky.
I have never owned any slim version of every PS generation. So this time, I will wait and get my hands on the slim ver.
    I don't mind waiting 2 years+ for it.

    • I don't mind waiting 2 years+ for it

I think you'll be waiting longer than this for half a dozen compelling PS5 exclusives, actually

  • +1

Love it! I haven't bought any PS5 games yet cuz most of them don't interest me much and I have a rather large untouched PS4 catalogue.
So far I've played Doom Eternal, Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro Shadows Die Twice on it and wow its a massive improvement on my PS4 pro in terms of gameplay, graphics and just how 'smooth' it feels.

  • +2

You could always sell it and then buy another PS5 when the games increase and it becomes a more attractive proposition.

I got mine on launch day. I have been playing CyberPunk and AC:Valhalla. Cyberpunk has been pretty OK, but it is terribly buggy. I played about 40 hours and have decided to give it a rest now until the updates are sorted.

AC:Valhalla is a massive game. Quite nice on PS5 although I have not played on PS4 so I cannot compare.

Things I like: Fast loading, high frame rates and sharp graphics.

Things I don't like: Not able to upgrade the memory yet (not a big deal yet), lack of AAA game releases so far, white faceplates.

Ultimately I have always bought PlayStation on launch so it have bought it out of habit. My original PS4 is still going strong with some cleaning and the biggest HDD I could fit in it.

  • +2

Love the PS5. Very fast game load- have PS+ for sevenish years.
No issues at all. Controllers are so ergonomic, and feedback is amazing ( tried astro for five min).
Mostly watch my kids play - they play FIFA and NFS.
I have just played four games of FIFA.

It is backward compatible with games. ( Although currently PS3 and PS2 are not compatible).

    Rating 9/10 from my side.

  • +2

I haven't had a console since the Xbox 360, so it was nice to jump in an explore all the games that I have missed since then (and others on the PS side that I never would of got to experience).

I'm blown away at the controller. Just hearing your character making noises through the speakers rather than just the TV gives that further sense of immersion. The new rumble system is great as well (even if you don't care about the game, I'd suggest you play the beginning of Astros Playground just so you know the new features of the controller).

    • Just hearing your character making noises through the speakers rather than just the TV gives that further sense of immersion

Welcome to the original Wii era!

      • Eh it was ok on the wii but games didn't take advantage of it as much. Plus the additional rumble helps as well.

  • +1

The device itself is fine now. I've had it since launch and there were some bugs initially that caused freezes and glitches. The only problem I have with the system is it's really low storage without any expandability. Only PS4 games are able to be moved to external storage. The other gripe I have is the current games on offer are pretty crap and don't really take advantage of the hardware coming off as really upscaled PS4 games.

Would I be in a hurry to get a PS5? No. Not yet. But, I got it and there's nothing exciting or ground-breaking yet.

    • I haven't had a console since the xbox 360 generation, so I have the whole PS4 catalogue open for me to enjoy until more PS5 games come out.

  • +1

    Honestly I love it.

I love that I got it day one, that all the games I play have received free upgrades and that I get to gloat to all the peasants who haven't got one.

FYI, I do have a Gaming PC and Series X.

  • Upgraded from Ps4 pro to the Ps5 disc version.
Was pretty lucky, just saw a post here about amazon stock and secured without much effort.

Currently Playing Demon’s Souls Remake and a few Ps4 polished games.

The graphics really look super exciting. Loading times are great. But main upgrade for me is getting rid of the noisy ps4 pro :)

Cureently AAA PS5 games are very limited, expensive and none of them is super attractive to me.

If you are not a big fan of current PS5 games, my honest suggestion is not to rush for the console yet.

  • +1

    It's been great so far.

If anything it's nice playing PS4 games and load times being faster. Once some true new-gen PS5 games come out it'll be even better. But have enjoyed Miles Morales and a few other PS5 titles. :)

No idea why you expected free games lol.

    • :( ps plus is expensive. first time using console hence the expectation

      • less than the cost of 1 game for a years access to multiple games!? how does that not make sense?

  • +2

Nothing great, just faster loading, and better frame rates coming from PS4 pro.

Only problem I had was…..after activating PS5 and having it since launch, I decided to keep one of my ps4 pro (sold the rest). As I didnt want to lose my dynamic backgrounds lol. Hook it up again ( as i deactivated and packed back into original box) upgraded my ps4 pro's hdd to evo 1tb 860 ssd and tried to activated it as my primary but it failed.

Called Sony and they asked me to deactivate my ps5 as primary which I told them that shouldnt be the case as they are two different gen consoles. …they reset my account (deactivated all my consoles) and now my ps4 pro is my primary console. Have not played my ps5 for a while but will see how it works this weekend.

Sony have not fix this cross gen issue yet as my majority of games are on the ps4 platform.

And yes your problem about buying a console and then have to buy games and subscription. Nothing has change much since the launch of video game consoles as you always have to buy games separately, video game subscription is evolving as it use to be for only online gaming and a few free games every month but now its become a new form of video game netflix. Sony will eventually have their subscription like game pass but time will tell if they will integrate their psx - ps4 emulation library.

Long story short…yes it sucks after spending so much money there are very few next gen games available to play.

Ps5 i am playing the free ps5 destruction derby with driver running around.

    Ps4 i am playing ff7 remake.

Xbox s x i am playing control ultimate edi

Pc 3080rtx from techfast….I have not yet run the pc yet (not connected). Speed test, might run lemmings to see if I can save any.

    • +1

yes it sucks after spending so much money there are very few next gen games available to play - yeah exactly

      • Hardly next gen more like a ps4 pro 2.0. Lol

        Ps2 vs ps1 = approx.10x faster
        Ps3 vs ps2 = approx.10x faster
        Ps4 vs ps3 = approx 10x faster
        Ps4pro vs ps4 = approx 2.5x faster
        Ps5 vs ps4 pro = approx 2.5x faster

Thats how it looks like but i am wrong….just google

PS5 is "approximately 100 times faster than PS4" according to Sony's president. Sony's president said PS5 is 100 times faster than PS4 at processing game data in the company's latest corporate strategy meeting.21 May 2020

Hmmm could be the hybrid ssd

      • +2

Just sell it for $1000+ now then rebuy in 2-3 years when the slim model is out and a lot more games and are cheaper.

  • +1

I can't seem to stay connected for more than 5 minutes. The ps5 servers are so bad it's unreal.

  • +2

    It's no good

Mine hasn't been used for two weeks now

    Boring paperweight

  • +2

Let me tell you something son

Had PS5 since December 2020. I have to say my Xbox One X is still more enjoyable and this is coming from PS Fanboy.

My PS5 doesn't transcode DTS to Dolby. That means my Xbox plays Shazam in full 5.1 glory while with PS5, it's back to effing PCM 2.0. And yes, it went through HDMI 2.1 and ARC.

My PS5 sometimes experience loss signal if playing full 4:4:4 subchroma sampling (This means while playing or watching, the screen went black for 5 seconds before coming back randomly). My Xbox doesn't experience that despite running on HDMI 2.0 whilst PS5 on HDMI 2.1. I had to downgrade to 4:2:2. In addition, when playing on Crunchyroll, I noticed my PS5 judders slightly whilst Xbox doesn't.

My Xbox has Streets of Rage 4 offered for free. My PSN doesn't.

My PS5 is noisy as eff. My Xbox is not as noisy as PS5.

My PS5 UI sucks as hell. My Xbox UI is still better. Easy to find stuff.

And last not least, My PS5 has limited apps (eg: There is no ANIMELAB in PS5). My Xbox does have Animelab. Although both have Crunchyroll.

However. Having said that, My FF7R is bloody awesome in PS5. Faster load time and somehow smoother although I think that's probably byproduct of my TV motion interpolation.

I still prefer PS Controller vs Xbox.

Did I regret buying PS5? Hell no.

    • Forgive my ignorance, but why would you want to transcode DTS to Dolby? I'm assuming you're talking about Dolby bitstream output from from a DTS source.

      • +1

        Correct.

The reason is simple. Many movies are using DTS (and if Dolby, it would be Atmos).

My receiver doesn't have 8K/4K/Atmos. It's an old Pioneer but has DTS HD-Tru Master and Dolby Digital.

So when I watch a DTS movie, in theory, DTS signal would go from PS5 to TV which then passes thru the signal to Receiver before it becomes 5.1.

Unfortunately, modern TV these days don't support DTS signal. LG CX doesn't support them. Samsung doesn't support them.

As the result, DTS signal died at TV and not being passed through resulting in static noise when played in PS5 (even if you have set PS5 Audio to DTS). I then had to change PS5 audio to PCM to make it work but it becomes 2.0.

But if I play it from Xbox One, the DTS signal gets transcoded first into Dolby, passes through the TV, which then passes through the Receiver, resulting in 5.1.

However, when playing FF7R, having set PS5 to Dolby, the 5.1 channel works. So my conclusion is to permanently set my Audio Setting in PS5 to Dolby and play games to enjoy 5.1 but for movies AND streaming, I use Xbox.

I have heard PS4 does transcode DTS to Dolby. I don't know if this is true but Xbox One definitely does and that's part the reason why I don't want to go up to Xbox Series X as yet.

        • Gotcha thanks for that info. I actually think that's a failing of the tv to not include DTS passthrough (not sure why that's omitted) but it's a pretty frustrating problem either way.

          • @AlanHB: No modern TV is supporting DTS in any form these days.

I don't know what's happening but they seem to be going Atmos exclusive but a lot of movies are made with DTS.

            • @burningrage: I'm aware, I just think that is more an issue with the tv than the PS5.

              • @AlanHB: Agree but my point is if Xbox One X can transcode DTS to Dolby then you would have thought a supposedly more superior machine like PS5 would have done the same.

I don't know if this is true but I was told PS4 does transcode DTS to Dolby. If this is true, that's a downgrade in one sense for PS5.

  • +2

Not gonna bother until two years later

  • I really like it, but I played PS4 before it. It sounds like you're new to console gaming, and I can understand if you're disappointed with the current lack of exclusives.

  • I mean it's great, I like it, but having it makes me realise that I could have waited till the end of this year.

There aren't much games at the moment. So for anyone suffering from FOMO, it's better to just wait.

  • Just bought an $80,000 bmw

Kinda disappointed I now have to pay for petrol as well.

    • +1

was the tank empty when it came from the dealer? :)

    • +1

      Wouldn't you?

I would always insist on fuel tank whenever buying a car.

  • +1

Got them both in DEC 2020. My Xbox Series X has gotten a lot more use.

I have found that a lot more of the main Xbox One titles I play have been optimised better and show better improvements on Series X, compared to PS4 games>PS5. (for instance I had to take God of War back to version 1.00 so it would play better on the PS5).

Demon Souls is nice though. But overall I should have waited for the PS5s redesign. I hate the look of the PS5. Its one ugly MF.
Loading times are great and I love quick resume especially for games like Forza Horizon 4.

  • +1

I got the Series X and PS5. No i'm not rich just did a good trade in deal with the series X to the point it only cost me $2 out of pocket and only 350 out of pocket for the PS5 after selling my PS4 Pro with games.

I will have to say i think the Series X is the better deal if you are on Gamepass, heck Dirt 5 that is a launch game is already on Gamepass! (just annouced). Only game i have bought is Yakuza Like a Dragon.

I knew PS5 games where going to be expensive but its been slim pickings but the good thing is God of War/Division 2/Days Gone all got 60FPS patches and i havent played those games yet so that will tide me over for a bit in addition to the PSN+ offerings. I will say Destruction Allstars is a colossual disappointment and i can't believe they where and are looking into charging full price for it. I still need to get Miles Morales and Demons Souls.

  • +2

    Extremely disappointed.

No games. Would have to be the worst launch in console history. While it is nice to go back and play upgraded games AKA God of war, I want the next gen experience.

Anyone freaking out about not getting one.. DONT BE.

Your not missing out on much.

  • +2

Dunno why you would complain, I think Ps Plus is great value, you get like 10 A tier games included, before even counting the Monthly games

  • I finally got my PS5 last night. So far loving it.

  • Love it, got the digital version for Xmas (yes I would have preferred the disc version), so a bit annoying I have to rebuy all the physical games I had, and there aren't many PS5 games yet but that's ok they will come!

    • yeah thats a bummer tbh. I woould have preferred the digital since i don't own games

      • +2

If you'd gone digital, your only avenue is paying full price on the PlayStation store. And you don't like paying for things, so something's gotta give.

  • +2

devastating news, my last console at least came with one built-in game (alex kidd in miracle world)

    • PS5 comes with astro

  • Incredible, games I've played look absolutely amazing and feel so incredibly smooth, even if only updated for PS5. I've gone back to check some stuff on the PS4 and the difference is substantial.

  • Played some old PS4 games in 4k60fps (Spider-man MM, some bits in Days Gone but stopped, P5R but only in 4k, a bit of God Of War.) and now its collecting dust as I have a gaming PC I'm using. My switch has also been collecting dust since May a bit after Animal Crossing release.

Can't wait for Rachet and Clank though…. pretty hyped. I dont expect many exclusives til 2 or 3 years into its life. I don't know why you expected free games though. Every platform you have the pay for you to play unless you pirated games on pc then I guess it would be "free.

    • PC actually has loads of free games available from Epic, Ubisoft, Origin & Steam giveaways. There's also no subscription fees to play any PC games online with the exception of MMO titles and niche simulators like iRacing.

  • +1

Will wait for Battlefield 6 and then buy. Battlefield 4 still going strong on PS4 for me.

  • +1

    Had mine since launch.

    Meh….

Definitely a lack of new titles that make use of the PS5, XBox Series X is even worse for this IMO.

Saw another ad campaign for the Spiderman Miles Morales game and its quite evident even Sony know theres nothing good out for a while. Advertising a launch title when they should be pushing new games out.
