    BPA ?

I prefer the IKEA VARDAGEN Carafe with lid, clear glass1.0 l at $2.99.

Slightly more expensive, but glass wins over plastic, particularly for iced teas.

    • +1

      too small…

    • +2

I like glass too, but for $2 I don't care if the kids drop it.

I also prefer supporting local rather than Amazon, but I bet I don't get as many votes as the Amazon deal for the same product and price did ;)

Decor is Australian made regardless of whether you buy from Big W or Amazon.

        • +1

Big W is Australian, Amazon is not

            @TEER3X: Big deal.

Both warehouses are in Australia and they employ Australians.

Decor products are made in Australia anyway…

It's not as if you are buying a Chinese product from Amazon in the US.

@jv: It's not a big deal, but I would prefer to support and buy from my local BigW than to buy from Amazon.

              • @AJW: why?

                • +2

@jv: Because I like having a bricks n mortar alternative to Amazon that employs people in my community.
                  Is that ok with you?

                  • @AJW:

Amazon have a warehouse in Melbourne with a few hundred employees, not to mention all the couriers that have work because of them.

@jv: I'll drop by when they open a local shop that I can browse in, thanks

                      • @AJW: You can browse online, just like BigW…

                        • @jv: Wow, you have enlightened me, I am surprised I did not know that….Thank you for taking the time to let me know.

                      • @AJW: Amazon Go
                        https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Go

Not yet here, may not ever make it.

                    • @jv: Until they automate their entire unskilled workforce. Already happening in some cities in America.

      • I prefer the IKEA ones as the wider top makes them easier to clean, particularly if your iced tea contains real leaves.

      • We have the above style bottles. They are repurposed from kombucha products. Good if you have to lay them down on the shelf when you run out of space in the door. However, there is wasted space so I'm looking for more spare shaped containers. Also the opening is tiny and slow to refill.

      • +1

These suck to refill, even if they fit in your sink they take forever.
You can lie them down in the fridge but if you do the seal gets all mouldy.

  • Issue with this is the water smell and taste like plastic

    • I was just thinking to ask if the plastic would smell…

probably will need to fill with water and leave it for weeks to let the odour go away before use.

      • the smell and taste would never go away due to the material they use to manufacture

probably make a good non liquid container

need to buy something BPA free like that Camelbak brand for plastic free smell and taste

        • honestly… I have hardly seen any plastic made container has no smell.

These days mostly are BPA free or advertise as BPA free. Even a takeaway container does smell only matter of strong or less pretty close to odourless. But nevertheless, it does have a plastic odour.

        • CamelBak doesn't mean no smell, it's just dependant on materials used.

I had a CamelBak hiking backpack with a water bladder, always made the water taste like plastic.

Everything related to food is bpa free. There are other 'chemicals' that leach into food but aren't band. Plastic is the greatest and worst invention ever.
