  • Is JoyFlash well known brand? Price is cheap but I rather go for Patriot at MSY deal

Here are some thought on Joyflash http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1000894.…

    • I picked up a few patriots, by the sound of things the joyflash are not a true class 10.
more like a class 6 performance

      • I thought so too. I might drop by MSY on Tue or Wed. To picked up those.

      • I picked up one of the patriots from MSY as well. Just be aware that some people have had corruption issues with the patriots going from the reviews on Amazon. Would recommend completely filling the card with photos and video first to ensure you don't run into this issue.

Even if I saw this offer before I bought some Patriots from MSY on Friday, I still could not bring myself to buy or trust something called JoyFlash.

      George Michael probably could.

  • Got one myself, reviews on xda seem to think they're alright but at that price i'm willing to try it hot from me!

Um…I'd go with Philips for the extra few dollars….

Crap…It ships from the US Warehouse = no shipping outside of the US…Oh well, I'l just sit tight and wait for another OzBargain deal on brand name memory cards.

  • To the bad customer service Msy i go lol

  • Class 10 means minimum write speed as a multiple of 8 Mbit/s (1 MB/s) show achieve 10MB/s.

Rep you put ' 20 MB/sec minimum data transfer rate' after the calss 10 is a behavior of false advertisement. Yes it might be able to do 20MB/sec read, but we all know that you want to confuse people. Not 100% focus on providing good service and lower cost.

    • The classes specify a minimum write speed - not the real performance, but a minimum. AFAIK there's a cap at Class 10, meaning that lots of memory that performs better than 10 MB/s is classified as 'Class 10'. Lots of Class 2 and Class 4 cards perform better than 2 MB/s and 4 MB/s respectively (IIRC the Class 2 versions of some Sandisk cards even performed better than the Class 4 versions at one stage).

  • Also the 2TB Samsung story station, I saw Hardly Norman was selling it at $119, though it has increased by $20 from 99 after the floods, but anyone wants quick pickup and local warranty, you can check out Harvey norman

I wish sellers would offer these deals on MicroSD. The micros have the same "guts" in them and are (a tiny bit) cheaper to manufacture. But they're heaps more flexible.

I need a 16GB micro for my son's DS Cart, and I don't want to get a cheapy class 4 in case we later move it on to camera-based duties.

      You PIRATE!!!!

    • There's a significant difference in the 'guts' of a microSD vs an SD card. The tech might be the same but there's a different level of miniaturisation.

      Inside various microSD cards: http://bunniestudios.com/blog/images/microsd_lineup.jpg
Inside various SD cards: link 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link 5

Whether or not it's cheaper to manufacture overall I wouldn't know, it wouldn't surprise me if it required a higher level of automation which reduced the cost per item. But it's probably cheaper to set up a factory to whack a controller chip and a NAND chip on the PCBs for SD than to assemble a microSD, meaning (wild speculation) there might be more competition on the wholesale side.

I worded my post poorly. What I meant was that the internal "guts" contains memory, controller, etc and that is technically the "same".

I've generally found that the standard (non-discounted) price of MicroSD and SD is almost identical for a given brand & class. Yet there seem to be very few deals on MicroSD at decent (class 6 or class 10) speeds.

Anyway, you might be right - maybe there is a lower overall TMC for SD.

  • Whats the recommended class for cameras (HD) and phones?

    • The "Class" is the writing speed. For photos, a slower card simply means a longer time between shots, whilst each image is saved to the card. While the card is being written, you eaither wait or the camera records the next shot to internal (buffer) memory and then re-writes that to the card later.

Where the speed really matters is for video. You can sometimes record Full HD onto a Class 6 (6MB/sec), but it's generally better to use a Class 10 (10MB/sec) just to be safe. A HD camera (720p) will almost always be OK on a Class 6, and a simple VGA (640x480) will almost always be OK on a Class 4.

Apart from the camera part, a Phone usually only reads from the memory card. It's loading video, photos and game data rather than writing it. Even a Class 2 card can have a write speed of about 20-30MB/sec which is heaps faster than it needs to be.

A faster "Class" of card does not necessarily have a faster read speed. Generally, it's far nicer experience to use a faster card when copying data ONTO them, but for playing back it doesn't really matter that much. Of course, this is REALLy general info - there is lots of anomolies, even between a certain brand and/or size.

    • Have you tried the Patriot card at MSY deal?
I want them for my dslr as well

  • I just received this card and tested it. My speed tests show this card does approximately 20MB/s read and 15-16MB/s write. I'm happy with that.
