this might just be water with a little ammonia. (less than 10% is Ammonia 25% solution)
Coles Cloudy Ammonia is $1.40 for a litre. (20g/L ammonia)

    • But you get the nice container !! Jk. So seriously that’s all this product is? I feel weird buying a 1L bottle of cloudy ammonia and putting that down my window washing tank??

      • And is amonia safe for paint? Because even at the best of times, some will get on your paintwork.

Based on the MSDS, it seems like it would be pretty similar to cloudy ammonia (2% ammonia in water with some detergent), but I'm not an expert. Maybe someone else will know.

I don't think it is "pretty cheap for what it is", more likely they are selling a very basic cleaner in a "specialized" container for 3.6 times the price of the generic equivalent.

  • I used this stuff once years ago where I had to mix my own from concentrate. My windscreen was a mess every time I used it, cloudy and gross but cleared quickly - however I found I'd get a milky coloured residue left behind in spots the wipers didn't reach.

Didn't use it again after that, switched to the SCA pre-mix which has been great. Ran out recently and it wasn't in stock so I used the pre-mixed Bar's Bug cleaner. Same issue again. I thought the first time maybe I didn't mix it well, but yeah it's the product. I won't be using it again. Can't wait for my tank to clear of this crap.

    • Interesting mate, I had the same cloudy appearance on one of my cars. I showed to it to the car dealer during service and they tried to get rid of it and said it would be due to acid rain 🤔. My old car of 10 years plus never had any signs of any cloudyness so I thought they are full of shit. But on the new car I used the stuff mentioned here.

To be clear, it never damaged my body or paint. It would leave a milky residue on the paint and the windscreen, but it could be washed off.

        • Oh okay thanks for that mine can't be washed off

I mixed my own with windex and Rain-X.

  • I used this a few times in my car a few years back as recommended by Autobarn staff. It ended up leaving a white residue on the glass. Once I'd cleaned my car (using Meguiars shampoo, can't remember which as since moved to Bowdens for unrelated reasons) this white residue made rainbow patterns on my windscreen that were very pretty to look at, but impossible to clean off (and impossible to see through when driving into the sun). Luckily it faded after a few months and is no longer an issue but I wouldn't recommend this cleaner unless you really want to make a statement.
