There's a name we haven't seen for a while… Posting after 2 years. Welcome back mate.

    • +1

      was he banned

      • +2
        • +1

That wasn't the only "Personal attack / Bullying" that WatchNerd did. Ever wondered what happened to Savas, why did he suddenly stop logging into OzBargain? There are some who are still in the sin bin

    • The plus counter seems to cap out @ 299. Welcome back from at least 300 others as well.

  • +24

    Welcome back old friend.

  • +8

    Welcome back.

  • +3

    Nothing makes me hard….

Yay welcome back Mate. Nice to see your post after a while.

  • +4

Great to see you back, WN.

The return of the king 👑

    • Its WatchNerd posting, not TightArse.

  • +21

Are these suitable as a corporate bonus?

    • +1

      Taxpayers paying for it?

      • +2

Aus Post is run commercially, saying it’s tax payers’ money is somewhat misleading.

        • +3

Partially. It's a wholly government owned enterprise, so profits, if any go to the government.

          • @Mainsail: Yes, the statement wasn’t a lie, the money would otherwise go to the government if not used as it was.

            • +3

@MaccasAU: And therefore any corporate gifts would reduce profits that would otherwise go the government who are funded by taxpayers.

              • +16

@JimB: Sure, but those people that helped Holgate with 'an extraordinary amount of work' negotiate commercial deals that made Australia Post a lot of those profits. They secured a lucrative commitment from from the banks to contribute $100 million a year to fund banking services in post office branches.
You're also forgetting there are a lot of privately owned post offices / licensees (small businesses) who in the modern age of email were now struggling with outdated government style of thinking when Australia Post was going down the toilet. Holgate and her team were poached from the private sector, ran it like a business and turned it around. These private small business operators even offered to pay for the watches in protest to save Holgate because she saved them and Australia Post.

Government employees probably wouldn't have been so profit-driven to do so. Her vision and the autonomy to run it like a commercial business allowed her to get Australia Post back to profitable.

It is normal in a commercial enterprise to give incentive rewards when extra work results in extra profits. The government / taxpayer is having its cake and eating it too by being happy to receive such profits from a commercial venture, but then saying it must be run like its consolidated tax revenue… They'd sooner have it back to run it at a loss like most other departments. Then we can all write-off the debts with our taxpayer funds.

It would not be abnormal in the private sector for people who make a $100 million per year profit deal for 5 years ($500 million) to be incentivised up to 1% or so commission on the profits, which is $5 million - let alone a mere $20,000 in watches = 0.00004!! lol.

There was a note allegedly also from the Chairman on the gifts and photos of the gifts sent to ministers - so they probably knew about it, so she probably had kind of had shareholder approval too (informally - unfortunately for her) - they all just threw her under the bus when they realised the public were too dumb to understand why such flashy gifts are a bad idea for public image and someone had to take the fall.

Therefore, its within what is normal for a commercial enterprise and returning a profit - as a taxpayer, thanks for the profits out of the big 4 banks guys - You're making me money - passes my 'pub test'!

                • +7

@MrFrugalSpend: PS - What doesn't pass my 'pub test' is to make matters worse, the government wasted far more taxpayer money running a huge report and senate investigation that in wasted public servant labour and wages/time in Australia Post to look into it and the recruitment to replace her at executive level would have cost way more than $20,000 as well (not to mention the lost productivity / time training up a new staff member takes). What a waste of my taxpayer money. That's the difference here - a bunch of public servants think its a good idea to spend $100,000 in public servant wages to crucify someone for spending 4x$5000 in commercially-justifiable rewards because they forget to get the right form signed first (despite them having made hundreds of millions in profits through their actions).

                • @MrFrugalSpend: This - please read the facts behind a sensational headline from a source other than the people with a vested interest in selling you sensational scandal.

If you fail to do that, you're just being used as a tool - perpetuating murdoch propaganda - for free. He gets richer, you get dumber. Sound like a fair trade???

        • Run commercially to make profits…for the tax payers who are the "share holders"

    • +1

Doesn't meet the criteria unfortunately, not enough precious jewels.

    • LOL great comment. Very funny

  • +6

Saw the notification on my phone for a bargain posted by WatchNerd, couldn't believe it.

    Welcome back!

  • +2

    Wow welcome back!

  • +2

i’m not sure i should buy more watches …how many wrists do i have : )

    • +1

      Two.

      • +2

Did you just assume kamoy's appendages?

        • +1

Be hard to put and tie the watch band for A0200 if he only got one arm. :)

What was that joke about the guy wearing contact lenses? "Well, he got no f***ing ears, he can't very well be wearing glasses, can he?"

          • @PuppieWayne: I mean if someone had one arm for a long time I could see them doing up a watch with their mouth, you'd get used to it.

  • +4

Insert what year is this meme

    Welcome back!

  • +3

    Welcome back old friend :)

  • +1

Thanks - Bought the first one on the list. :)

  • +5

    OMG OMG OMG YOU'RE BACK!!
coz of you, I now have a citizen cc3060 on my wrist and loving it
    Thank you!!

    • love that watch do you think these citizen are made in china even the more expensive models…just wondering if you noticed

      • +2

Yep buddy it is made in china (cased in jap, if that matters to anyone)
If i had a choice of buying the cc3060 today, the fact it is made in china will cross my mind, and I would really prefer to buy a watch made elsewhere (solely due to the state of the relationship between our 2 countries; the worksmanship on the cc3060 is great, you really do get what you pay for)
but it is a very nice watch, well on the money. Not quite perfect but I wasn't looking for a perfect watch. wouldn't regret buying it again

    • did you get it from starbuy, been looking for this model but no luck in Australia do you know where can I find it CC3000-54L
Been looking for while any helps is appreciated.

  • +2

Great to see your deals again @Watchnerd.

    Welcome back!

    • +2

Couldn't resist the Citizen Eco-Drive BL8150-86L, paid $249 for perpetual calendar, seems a great deal - $90 off with code!

      Cheers @Watchnerd

      • Yeah, that's a good deal. I won't ever go back to non-perpetual after having it. Never have to think about whether I remembered to change the date at the start of the month.

        • Bought one too.
My current watch got water damaged because the guy didn’t put the rubber seal in properly after replacing the battery…
no battery required for eco-drive ;)

          • @mrgeckoz: Reason enough to learn to change your own battery, it's not rocket science.

      • I grabbed one too, sounds like a great watch though i'm a little concerned it's going to be huge…

        • 42mm is a pretty normal size.

          • +1

@Bunsen: It’s both huge and a normal size, the current trend in watches.

            • @ak47wong: 50mm is huge. I have a diesel that's 50mm.

      • Bought one too! Thanks for posting op

  • +2

Any deals on the promaster range? :)

  • +2

    Welcome back!!!!!
I look forward to many watchy and nerdy deals in the future. Live long and prosper.

  • +1

    Welcome back.

  • +6

    Any female watches?

  • +1

Upcoming cause I got my current EcoDrive watch from a watchnerd deal ages ago. And it's freaking great. Chrono, solar powered, perpetual calendar. Don't need to think about a thing…

    Welcome back dude.

  • +1

What do you guys think of the NERD2 one? Thinking of getting it as a gift for a teenager. He wants a S/S bracelet and 39.5mm seems an okay size for a child. Yea or nay?

    • Nice parent. Consult them maybe?

    • -1

39.5 is still pretty big for a child no? I have small wrists and 38 is good for me. I'm an adult man too so definitely bigger wrists than a child .. even if only just lol

Also I think stainless steel bracelet is a bit daggy for a kid…

      • +1

I am 6’4 and comfortably wear 36mm… comes down to personal preference but a 39mm case with a stainless steel bracelet is going to look either baller or sad on a child.

        • +2

Your height is irrelevant, wrist size is the only important factor for a watch, unless you meant you have a 6.4" wrist.

  • +3

    Great deals. Welcome back WatchNerd!

  • +3

Came for comments about watches but found 90% irrelevant spam

  • -7

    Omega > Citizen

    • +4

      $4000 > $400

      • -2

        Used Omega? Lol

    • +1

Well no shit. Mercedes > Kia too.

      • I resent that! ;)

  • +1

    Where you been?

  • +1

    Welcome Back!

  • +1

    Welcome back Buddy!

  • I have a couple of "luxury" watches (IWC, Tudor, Rolex), but my Eco-drive probably gets more wrist time than all of them combined. If I'm stranded on a desert island this is the watch I would be wearing.

    • +2

I've got two lower end Swiss watches (Tag, Omega), but ever since getting my Omega, almost 20 years ago, the Tag has sat in the cupboard. I've literally worn the Omega for 20 years straight, day and night, in the shower, sea, bath, everywhere. The only time it's been off my wrist for longer than it took to change the date, was when I got it serviced, about 12 years in. Mind you the service cost more than some decent watches.

  • +2

who else is here like ummm.. what’s happening lol who’s watch nerd?

did he get put into penalty box for 2 years because of this comment?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429030#comment-6790950

    • Yes

      • wow I didn’t know ozbargain has 2 year penalty boxes. Thought maybe longest is a month (other than permaban)

        • Not sure of the length of time… Just that the penalty box was involved. Can't comment as I'd be speculating…

          • @scud70: That invicta is still available on Amazon. I have never seen a 200m water resistant dive watch with display back. I thought the display back feature limited water resistance to 100m. I dont think they are as legit as a more expensive diver from other brands.

            • @shreddo: Hmmmm I'd rather a Seiko 5 to be honest in terms of cheap Auto, I know Seiko has some great dive watches (not my style though) , I don't know about the invicta stuff so can't comment but I guess like with anything it's cheap/cheaper for a reason…

            • @shreddo: now where's Math Nerd?

        • -4

Really showing how young you are here. There are so many stories/controversies I could say but would be removed if I dared to say it here.

          • -2

@Clear: young on ozb and irl

tell me more. need some ☕️

            • @skido: Ok so this one time I was mistaken for being scotty at a meetup and proceeded to pretend to be him for a solid 15 minutes.

              • -1

@Clear: lol.. I mean those controversies ;) need a good bedtime story

      • hey pjc is still in the box

        • yea and it seems like he’s permabanned. It doesn’t show an expiry date

    • -1

I love how my comment is “off topic” but all the welcome back comments are somehow not “off topic”

    • -2

That wasn't the only "Personal attack / Bullying" that WatchNerd did. Ever wondered what happened to Savas, why did he suddenly stop logging into OzBargain? There are some who are still in the sin bin

      • who’s savas and what did he do? I only joined 2 years ago so missed out on a lot of ☕️ and drama

        • -1

Savas was as well known as TA back in the day. Nice guy. He used to post weekly Woolworths and Foodland, or IGA specials

          • @Wystri Warrick: Why did he stop coming

            • -1

@capslock janitor: PJC and WatchNerd bullied him off

              • @Wystri Warrick: Whoa glad to see PJC is permabanned/no expiry

              • @Wystri Warrick:

PJC and WatchNerd bullied him off

Absolute garbage. They were banned so they had no more ability to "bully" him. He left of his own volition.

If anything, Savas was the bully with near untouchable status because of protection from him mod mates. Plenty of threads where Savas was downvoted to oblivion with snide and snarky passive aggressive tactics and not even so much as a comment deleted.

And at the end of the day, Watchnerd has done his time and more. For what some would get a week or two for, he copped 2 years and still came back to share this deal with us.

It shows more about the calibre of Watchnerd than the guy who didn't get his own way so he packed up his bat and ball and went home…

                • -4

@pegaxs: You sir are beyond a doubt triggered – LOL!!!
It is highly presumptuous of you to take sides without knowing the facts, unless of course you are biased!
What I am referring to is what took place between private PM groups on OzBargain, and a Discord server. This of course you are oblivious to, yet you presumptuously take sides?
If Savas was the bully as you claim then please put up your evidence?
Your claims that Savas is untouchable due to “him mod mates” is laughable at best and delusional at worst. Again I ask you to put up or zip it.
Your words of WatchNerd doing his time and more bring tears to my eyes….. “what some would get a week or two for, he copped 2 years and still came back to share this deal with us.” Again your words bring tears to my eyes…….
The calibre of WatchNerd? Dear sir you’ve evidently never been on the same discord server with him, nor been in a OzBargain private chat with him while he speaks of those who he detests and argues with them, or unless of course you’re bias?
If “him mod mates” are so obnoxious to ye then why don’t ye find a new site to troll!

                  • @Wystri Warrick: Okay let's leave it there everyone please (no more replies). If you wish to discuss individual users and incidents please take it off OzBargain.

It would be great if we could all move on from the past, fresh starts and all that. At the very least let's not drag up old incidents again in the deal posts, this is a post about watches after all.

                    Thank you all.
